Who's your Mario spinoff main?

i was always partial to purple shy guy or wario i liked too cus as a kid i always was the one who had a response/joke energy (troll which essentially is what he is lmao), and idk where it came from but was always good with impersonating voices and wario's laugh was one i was good at after hours of mario kart at my friends house lol.

I used to pick Bowser before Waluigi became a thing, but then the meme culture turned me off of using him a bit. Wario tends to be my go to these days.

I am curious about people who pick Mario. He is often the go to character for people who somehow know nothing about the series yet find themselves playing a game, but for anyone else he is often perceived as the default and considered boring.

So Mario players, why do you use him? Do you find his character or design particularly appealing? Do none of the other characters do it for you? Or are you sticking with what you have always known?

No judgement. Just interested to hear your thoughts.

If anyone here is qualified in Gender Studies, Id like to know why the men do not select Diddy Kong, often going for even the less conventionally Masculine Toad and Yoshi before Diddy. There is something going on here

I tend to go for other characters now, but when I was a kid, I went for Mario specifically because he felt like the default option. I don't know what this says about me.

I think that is quite common for children. You like the main character because they are familiar. They are often the element that draws people toa series in the first place.

There is no shame in picking "the default" or the main character. You like what you like. I think avoiding picking the character you want to play because you don't want others to perceive you negatively is potentially a bigger problem.

I tend to be drawn to the villains or anti-heroes in games because I personally find them more interesting, and they often have more going on in their character and their development than protagonists.

But that is not universally true, and I would never shy away from picking the main character if I liked them more than other options.

never really something i've thought about since i'm not a huge mario guy (even in smash bros. i normally play stuff like rob for SSBU or marth for melee) but in most situations i'll pick rosalina generally. Unfortunately she's not super common in spinoffs so my second pick is generally yoshi who is in (iirc) literally every spinoff game.
