Why do you root for the underdog, the humble, the weak, and the helpless?

Rooting for the Underdog adds more suspense and makes you feel less disappointed if they lose compared to the expected winner, losing.

It's amusing to see the underdog win, but it doesn't happen often. Normally I root for the kid who i think has the biggest heart, whether it be the tiniest kid on the team, or the largest.

For example, I wrestle for my HS.

This kid Caleb is 103 lbs. The smallest on the team, but he NEVER quits. He always gives it his all, even if he's a varsity 112 first year freshman and the kids are always bigger than him.

I'm 125 during season, and people also say that I don't quit. I'm the cocky, conceited bastard that you always see and will say "damn can't wait for him to lose" but no matter what, as long as you give it everything you've got, I can walk off that mat with a smile even if I lose

People root for the underdog because it makes them feel better about themselves. If a team with morons can beat these elite players, then maybe they too can overcome the obstacles life has laid before them and overcome the odds. People hope for upsets because it gives them hope and we as a species prey on hope. This feeling inspires us to jump as high as we can... until we go to sleep and wake up forgetting what happened

I do it because if they take the right steps, they can be as powerful as anyone.
A human being, no matter how small or weak, will always have pontential.
It's just a matter of them turning thier pontential into reality...

People like to see the champion fail. That way we know they're human. I side with the underdog because I like to see the champion fall and prove that the weak can become strong.
