SS OU Wicked Sight - High Impulse & Slurvish [PEAKED #1]

glitchwickedblow.png

Hello everyone! It’s High Impulse. I don’t usually post on the forums very much outside of the tournament section, but I wanted to share this team that I have personally had a lot of success with. I first tried this team in the first week of smogon tour in which I made finals (before switching teams and losing) and Slurvish made it to round 5. I’d like to extend a very big thank you to my friend Slurvish for writing and presenting this whole RMT and helping in the testing stages of this team. Without their aid this may not have been possible. - High Impulse

As the Crown Tundra has been announced for release October 22nd, some of the staple Pokemon you see every day may never get used again or get used very little, therefore we feel this is a perfect time to share this team. The initial idea behind this team was to pair Urshifu with Future Sight. The reason behind this is because of all the stall currently. We thought it would work as a lot of the main switches for Urshifu like Clefable get 3hkod. Regeneration cores such as Toxapex and Tangrowth are a common method of handling Urshifu. Future Sight allows Urshifu to use it's attacks without fear of being punished by the regeneration cores’ Rocky Helmets.

As I said before the whole idea of this team was to pair Urshifu with Future Sight, as not only is Urshifu a powerhouse but paired with Future Sight there's really no answer for it.

The Future Sight user picked was Slowbro, this was due to it having access to the move Teleport which allows us keeps momentum. Slowbro also helps with Excadrill/sand teams which are very common in the metagame right now.

Next we needed something for Urshifu ourselves, in which we originally picked Clefable. Clefable has an extremely wide movepool, with many different forms of utility. It possess the ability to be a Stealth Rock user or even a potential sweeper accompanied with Calm Mind.

After that we needed something for Hex Dragapult/Kyurem/Volcarona/Rotom-H so Tyranitar was a perfect fit due it's ability and typing allowing it to get a Sp.Def boost when Sand is up. It's stab Rock type move allows it to deal with the 4 Pokemon mentioned.

Next up was something with speed control + hazard removal was needed whilst being able to stop Magnezone and other Volt Switchers just endlessly clicking it. Excadrill was the perfect fit paired with Tyranitar's sand being able to deal with opposing Clefable and Hatterene.

Lastly we needed to cover Aegislash/Amoonguss/Azumarill/Primarina/Rillaboom/Urshifu-R/Zeraora. We went with Amoonguss which would handle Primarina, Rillaboom, Urshifu-R, Zeraora and Azumarill, whilst also helping with regular Urshifu.
After all this, two things came to mind: the team had no Levitate/Flying type so Earthquake was relatively free against the team, and bulky grass types were still kind of annoying especially opposing Amoonguss and Ferrothorn.

This is when the change of Togekiss > Clefable came into play. Which also happened to work really well because instead of having a status absorber in Clefable, we could use a cleric in Heal Bell, which helps Tyranitar stay in the game (Rest + Heal Bell).
After all of these changes Aegislash was still a remaining problem so we opted for Foul Play Amoonguss to help with that.

Bag_Choice_Band_Sprite.png

Urshifu @ Choice Band
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wicked Blow
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab
- Sucker Punch

Urshifu is here for obvious reasons, it has a great Speed stat paired with an excellent Attack stat. If that wasn't enough it has great coverage options and its offensive typing is truly unmatched in the SS meta. Urshifu has the ability Unseen Fist which allows all contact moves to hit through protection meaning in some cases a Pokemon is able to protect against Future Sight but Urshifu is still able to hit them. Wicked Blow is an extremely strong stab move which only a handful of Pokemon can switch into realistically. Close Combat is another strong fighting stab move which offers even more coverage on top of Wicked Blow. Poison Jab > Iron Head is due to the rise of Primarina and Azumarill in the metagame. This also allows Urshifu to maintain coverage for Clefable. Finally Sucker Punch is to aid with Dragapult/Alakazam.

slowbro.png
Bag_Heavy-Duty_Boots_Sprite.png

Slowbro @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Teleport
- Future Sight

Of course now a Future Sight user was needed. Slowbro's excellent Defence stats on top of it's great typing and ability allow it to be a physical check for a lot of opposing Pokemon. It's ability to use Teleport allows it to sustain momentum which is important with Future Sight. Slowbro can deal with Excadrill and sand teams quite well, beats Urshifu-R and helps with Corviknight. Slack Off and Regenerator make this Pokemon a punching bag that doesn't seem to die (to physical attacks), whilst still being able to dish out Scalds/burns. Slowbro has good defensive synergy with Urshifu meaning it can switch into Fighting type moves for Urshifu and Urshifu can do the same for Slowbro in terms of Ghost/Dark type moves. This means that Urshifu does not always need to rely on Teleport from Slowbro to come in due to this synergy and can often hard switch after getting off the Future Sight if deemed optimal.

excadrill.png
Bag_Leftovers_Sprite.png

Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance
- Rapid Spin

Excadrill is here as the team needed some speed control, hazard removal and something to stop Magnezone and other Volt Switch users just endlessly clicking it. Sand Rush allows it to outspeed faster Pokemon in the metagame like Zeraora. Running Swords Dance alongside Sand Rush allows Excadrill to tear through offensive teams and heavily damage stall teams. Iron Head is helpful for Clefable, Hatterene and anything else that resists Earthquake. Rapid Spin is obviously for removal of hazards and can sometimes be used in order to make Excadrill outspeed other Pokemon due to it's +1 Speed boost taking Excadrill from 302 Speed to 453. Slowbro is a great partner for Excadrill as Future Sight can be used for the likes of Tangrowth and Slowbro can burn Hippowdons/Corviknights so Excadrill is able to set up on them later.

togekiss.png
Bag_Heavy-Duty_Boots_Sprite.png

Togekiss @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Air Slash
- Roost
- Heal Bell

The team needed something for Urshifu, this was originally Clefable. Togekiss replaced Clefable and with Heal Bell it works as a cleric for the team whilst still fufilling Clefables Magic Guard role plus keeping it's Dragon immunity. It handles Grass types and acts as a Ground immunity for the team. Nasty Plot Togekiss paired with it's other 3 moves allow Togekiss to beat Chansey/Blissey single-handedly thanks to it's ability Serene Grace making Air Slash have a 60% chance of flinching, which isn't necessarily needed but always helpful. Running a cleric set on Togekiss supports the whole team which outweighs the need for Defog. The spread on Togekiss is so it's able to outspeed max speed Aegislash, with the rest in of the EVs in HP and Defence as assistance for opposing Urshifu.

tyranitar.png
Bag_Leftovers_Sprite.png

Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Rock Blast
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Rest

Tyranitar was a perfect fit here as it helps with Hex Dragapult, Kyurem, Volcarona and Rotom-H, which are potential threats to the rest of the team. Sand Stream makes Tyranitar extra bulky whilst complimenting Excadrill's Sand Rush. Rest works accompanied by Heal Bell from Togekiss ensuring Tyranitar is able to survive and stay healthy for a lengthy amount of time during the battle. Thunder Wave is there for extra speed control as overall the team is relatively slow paced with the exception of Urshifu and Excadrill. Tyranitar is also the team's Stealth Rock user complimented by it's Rock and Dark typing, this makes it an excellent Stealth Rock setter as it's able to switch in on a lot of Pokemon that otherwise threaten the team. Rock Blast is a strong stab attack that hits multiple times, being able to break Substitutes and deal damage to Pokemon like Dragapult or Volcarona.

amoonguss.png
Bag_Rocky_Helmet_Sprite.png

Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 168 Def / 92 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Foul Play
- Toxic

Amoonguss was able to solve some notable weaknesses due it's great typing. Amoonguss forms half of the regenerator core in conjuntion with Slowbro, together making them very hard to break down. Foul Play is here to try assist in the weakness to Aegislash, this helps breaking Aegislash subs or even hitting it for a lot of damage. Foul Play is also useful for punishing opposing Pokemon that decide to setup on Amoonguss, for example Scizor. Spore is to put anything to sleep that isn't a Grass type, which can usually be followed by a Toxic to predict your opponents switch, spreading poison and slowly whittling down teams. Giga Drain is a stab move that gives Amoonguss some health back and hits Water types. Amoonguss is also an alternative way of dealing with threats like Rillaboom if Togekiss isn't healthy, whilst still helping with Azumarill/Primarina and even opposing Urshifu.

threatlistredone.png

212MS8.png

Scizor can be annoying if it gets a Swords Dance up, as it threatens Slowbro, Tyranitar and Togekiss with its combination of Knock Off + Bullet Punch. Urshifu can outspeed and ohko with Wicked Blow, but doesn't like eating a boosted Bullet Punch. Some niche coverage moves like Dual Wingbeat and Bug Bite can also be problematic.
681MS8.png

Aegislash is a terrifying wallbreaker that can usually come in for free against Togekiss and proceed to 2hko the team with it's coverage. Amoonguss does have Foul Play to help against Aegislash, and both Excadrill and Urshifu can come in to threaten or force it out, but its usually a guessing game against this Pokemon.
065MS8.png

Alakazam has the coverage and power to 2hko the team, it can usually freely switch in against Slowbro and Amoonguss providing Spore has already been used. Excadrill can outspeed if in Sand, and Urshifu does have Sucker Punch however this can be a scary wallbreaker to face. Not to mention Focus Sash Alakazam could stop an Excadrill sweep.

Do you have an importable? IK, I can just copy paste the sets, but that's just nice to have. Also, great team, can't wait to try it. Hmm, this gives me an idea...

Oh, sorry, I missed it. Any tips on the playstyle in general? For example, I've been leading with Slowbro(I usually use Reuniclus on FS teams) to get that off and swap, to bait dark types.
