Wii U

windwaker2-02.jpg

So excite.

What is the jar lady doing on Windfall? o_O

I told myself I wasn't going to even consider buying a WiiU until we had solid information on the WiiU exclusive Zelda.

And then this happened.

hmmmm....

I can't wait for the HD Wind waker! Its one of the few Zelda games I didn't have an opportunity to play, so this is very nice ^_^

Honestly I wouldn't be mad though if the next Wii U Zelda game released after that, was a remake of Majora's Mask rather than a brand new Zelda title. Since its probably my favourite Zelda title.

First zelda game I played is LoZ: OoT 3D, and because of this I want to play other Zelda games. If I ever get a WiiU, I'll certainly be interested in getting the HD Wind Waker and the future Zelda U.

We knew it was coming, and now Nintendo fans must be happy to buy a Wii U!

They also set up nicely for e3, with Mario Kart playable, and Smash Bros Screens (and that probably means a new character and maybe the launch of the smash bros dojo!)

Just got a Wii U yesterday.

Man, I am pretty impressed with this thing. It's such a cool system.
Unfortunately, all I've got is Nintendoland which came with it. Decently fun game with friends but not really worth the retail price. I don't know why this wasn't just included with the Wii U by default, because it's basically a better version of Wii Sports.

I do have one major gripe with the system, though. There's cutoff on the edges of the screen, even when playing on an HDTV. You can adjust screen size in Miiverse and the Eshop to fix it, but not on the main menu or in any games. It's not enough to make games unplayable or anything, but it's still pretty shitty. Apparently you can fix it on some TVs, but unfortunately not mine. I really hope this gets addressed in the upcoming update.

Otherwise, a really cool system. Just gotta wait for Monster Hunter and other games to come out. In the meantime, I have Ni no Kuni to play.

Started playing Wii U!

I'm very impressed actually. The only bad thing is that it doesn't catch wifi as strongly as even my PS3 -_-

Nintendo land is great, everything is great! Rayman is pre-ordered and I'm set.

THIS IS A CALL OUT TO ANYONE ON SMOGON WITH A WII U!!
LETS TRADE NINTENDO NETWORK IDS!

He doesn't need to resign, just get a better marketing team...
Seriously, the Wii U needs better marketing.

Also, I am sad no one else on Smogon owns a Wii U besides Ulttimaa and I...

I have one!

Anyway, I like the system itself; I think it's pretty cool. My main problem though is that I don't have many games, so I end up not playing much more than New Super Mario Bros. U or ZombiU on it. However, when it comes to hardware, something tells me they'll have a hard time competing with Microsoft and Sony once they release their new consoles. The CPU on the Wii U runs at a mere 1.24 GHz, and the GPU runs at 550 MHz. Of course, the CPU doesn't mean much when it comes to graphics, but the Wii U's GPU is only as fast as the PS3's and just a little better than the Xbox 360's, while Sony and Microsoft are likely to improve on their GPU's in their next consoles and therefore be able to render better graphics. Of course, Nintendo's been lagging behind graphically ever since the Wii came out.

Although, the really big thing is that the Wii U's launch price is so low, costing only $300 for the basic 8 GB model and $350 for the 32 GB Deluxe model. Although, the Dreamcast's launch price ($200) was low in comparison to the PlayStation 2's ($300) and the PS2 still ate the Dreamcast for breakfast, so I wouldn't look solely at launch prices... Though, that's like comparing apples and oranges. Nintendo's been a much stronger video game company overall than Sega, so the Wii U probably won't end up being a complete flop like the Dreamcast and arguably even the Sega Saturn were.

But, I'm rambling at this point. Anyway, has anyone else noticed really fucking long loading screens? In particular, I've found the loading screens on ZombiU to be extremely long, nowhere near as long as the load times on my Xbox 360 or PS3 games.

Yeah, the loading screens are a tad long, unfortunately.

Luckily though that system update is on the way that should reduce loading times, and any games not-launch will probably be much better off.

Reminding everyone that the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate demo is going up today. It's already live in Europe and Australia, and is going up at 12pm EST in North America!

Hello!

Nintendo press conference recently showed a bunch of cool stuff for the Wii U:

> Virtual Console is coming
> Earthbound (!!) is coming to Virtual Console
> Spring system update is coming with a host of OS improvements, including loading speed
> Pikmin 3 coming out August 3, with new, flying Pikmin
> More at E3 as usual

Got a Wii-U used $450 Canadian, the guy got tired of it, he bought all the game digitally.

Games:
New Super Mario
Nintendoland
ZombiU
Need For Speed
Arkham City
Fist of the North Star
Ninja Gaiden 3
Monster Hunter 3
Lego City Undercover
Sonic Racing

Toki Tori 2
Runner 2
Cave
Nano Assault
Trine 2
Mighty Switch force

This was a good deal. Just need to have my harddrive arrive to get everything. Isn't ownership transferring fantastic?

hahahaha, nice bump overgro. I din't even know there was a Wii U thread!!
When I finish reading the WHOLE thread I may post something.

personally I won't be getting a WiiU at least until Super Mario Sunshine 2 comes out

which unfortunately is probably never :(

Weak game selection still for a subpar system. Should and hopefully will be left in the dust when the next generation of xbox and ps consoles come out, but accessibility and loyalty to Nintendo will keep it afloat. I can see no redeeming qualities in this console aside from future zelda releases.

Regardless, PC master race.

Weak game selection still for a subpar system.

This sentence has described every single home console system to ever be released for the first months after launch.

Every console will be "subpar" in terms of power compared to PCs to keep them cheap and accessible.

Every console will have a "weak game selection" for a while.

There's enough shit by the end of 2013 that the WiiU will actually have a lineup.

If you're going to come into a thread just to troll, and on top of that, be bad at it, why even post at all?

Plenty of consoles launched with strong titles.

N64 had Mario 64, PS had Rayman and many other games, Xbox had Halo: CE. Gamecube had Luigi's Mansion, Rogue Squadron and many other solid games, Wii had Twilight princess. Many more solid games not included.

Wii U just has a weak selection of titles still, no big names on its list aside from those already released on other consoles and PC. You're wrong saying that every other console had a weak launch selection within months, it also has been almost 6 months since the Wii U came out in North America.

I'm not here to troll, I posted my opinion, but I guess that I struck a nerve.

Hi everyone should be playing Lego City Undercover it is amazing. So far I'd say it's 80% open world 20% traditional Lego 'levels' and never stops being funny. You would think the fact that this game has no licence attached that it wouldn't make references, NOPE! Now it has all the power to make all the references. The coffee one at the start of the game, I died.

My only gripe is the loading ahhh. In the ideal world the update happening soon fixes that across all games. In the mean time I think I'm going to put a bucket of lego at my table and build little things while waiting for the game to load.

"If it has cucumber, it's not mah sammich!"

"If it has roast beef and jelly.... it's mah sammich!"

I've heard good things about Lego City. I'm waiting until Rayman and Mario Kart come out and I'll get both of those.

In the meantime, Kirby's Adventure is on for 30 cents and that's a pretty great game. As well the Rayman Challenges App is also ready. Pikmin 3 in August.

My thoughts are that the Wii U "truly launches" this holiday, with an upgraded (twice by Fall) OS, better games in quality and quanitity, people need to take a second look and reviews need to be re-written. It's not the same system it was at launch.

As well, Rayman Legends, I realized while playing the challenge mode is a very different game on Wii U compared to the other two systems. Murphy elements create a TON of new content that simply cannot be duplicated, even with Kinect.

Finally, Xbox event May 21. Who bets on a bit of Wii U "love"?

Time to bump this thread a bit; I have been playing Pikmin 3 and have been putting off beating the final boss (I hate this final boss) but I have gotten all the platinum awards in treasure mission mode. Some people might be put off by this games challenge mode compared to how massive Pikmin 2's was. 30 dungeons compared to 5 treasure, 5 enemy and 5 boss maps isn't much at first. Not to mention they recycle but luckily the non-boss levels are much more open ended and with leaderboards involved there is much more competition. I'm not looking forward to platinum on enemy fighting since that probably means more deathless runs.

Battle Bingo mode looks to be an improvement, I can't tell yet because I don't have anyone to play against. The bingo field allows for much more strategy/randomness but I did enjoy the good old red versus blue nature of Pikmin 2. Involving a few other types in some maps is welcome enough.

Now give us some DLC missions Nintendo, involving all 7 types if possible.

I played the Wii U for the first time at a friend's house, there were 7 of us so we just rotated controllers and the screen thingy while we played Nintendoland. I think playing solo would be boring but for 5 people playing at once it was actually really fun and suddenly it was midnight and everyone was like da heck where did 4 hours go. The games were 'sort of' kiddy but we mainly played the ghost game and catch Mario and having ppl there yelling at the screen makes it a lot more fun. I think for group settings the Wii U should be able to provide good party entertainment but I'm not going to get one myself, oh no, most definitely not after how crappy the Wii was. Still, going over to a friend's who has it is p nice.

Still waiting for SMTxFE or Smash. Games finally worth playing, coming to a WiiU near U with the confirmed release date of Eventually®
