Wish of a Dragon

Wish of a Dragon - RMT

Background Information

Hello my name is Shaymin22 (Kyoshi on PO) and in the following Forum I will present to you my very first "Rate My Team" on this website. Even though I am not a veteran, I am an experienced player and I have built many successful teams in the past, both on PO and on the DS Wifi in Gen. 4 and Gen. 5. The team that I will be showing to you below has been tested but will need suggestions from you (the reader) in order to improve the team. Please feel free to leave suggestions and criteria that can help me make this team better below. Now let's get started shall we? Also, the most recent edits are in bold, suggested sets are in italic.

The Building Process

First, I needed a strong core. I started looking at different Pokemon in the OU tier, looked what they can do in battle and searched for Pokemon that looked like they could potentially work well together.

I decided that I want a weather-less team. Without any specific idea on how I should start building my team I decided that I would just pick a Pokemon that I always liked, finding a good partner for it in order to creating a stable core and focusing on centering my team around it. The Pokemon I picked was the Wish Pokemon, Jirachi.

385.gif

For the second member of this team I wanted a Pokemon that would work well together with Jirachi. The Shooting Star and the Pokemon I was looking for should cover each other's weaknesses. The first Pokemon that came to mind was Dragonite. It covers Jirachi's Ground and Fire weaknesses and Jirachi covers the Dragon and Ice weaknesses of Dragonite. So Dragonite it is.

With Jirachi and Dragonite in my team it was time for number three. I wanted the third member of this team to be a good scouting Pokemon that could easily revenge kill certain threats and that has a reasonable amount of bulk. I chose Rotom-W.

Jirachi, Dragonite, Rotom-W. Those are the members of this team so far. I was thinking and thinking what else to put on the team when i noticed that I don't have a single Pokemon with the move Stealth Rock. After a while of searching for the right member, I stumbled upon a very defensive Pokemon capable of setting up Stealth Rock and which has great synergy with the rest of my team, this Pokemon is no other than Celebi.

When I looked at the team I had so far I saw that I had a Grass type and a Water type which resulted in me looking for a potential fire type for my team so I would have the infamous water-fire-grass combo. I wanted a specially oriented Pokemon, one that could hit hard but at the same time take hits. Heatran seemed to be a great choice.

Jirachi, Dragonite, Rotom-W, Celebi, Heatran. Looking at this team the first thing I saw was a huge Mamoswine, Terrakion, and ExpertBelt Landorus weakness. I needed something that was physically defensive with reliable recovery. I chose the metal bird, Skarmory as my last team member

I noticed that Sand Teams gave me a little trouble, especially the ones that ran Landorus so I decided to replace Jirachi with Scizor which is a powerful revenge killer and a great scout when equipped with a choice band.

The Team in Depth

scizor.jpg

RedMantis (Scizor) @Choice Band
Trait: Technician
Evs: 248 HP / 252 Att / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature (+Att, -SpA)
~Bullet Punch
~U-Turn
~Superpower
~Pursuit

After hours of testing and testing I was sick of Expert Belt Landorus, and sand abusing Pokemon, ruining my day so I decided to replace my beloved Jirachi with a Scizor. The reason why I picked Scizor over another Pokemon is because it effectively revenge kills powerful but relatively frail sweepers (some prior damage is appreciated) like Landorus, Terrakion, and Tornadus. With a Choice Band, Scizor hits super hard and has an amazing synergy with Rotom-W (VoltTurn). Adamant Nature is the preferred nature because it allows Scizor to hit as hard as possible. Maxing out its attack is important in order to power up its already ridiculously high attack stat. 248 Evs in HP are necessary to give Scizor an extra switch in if the opponent has put Stealth Rocks up. The remaining Evs are thrown into Special Defense.

The four moves that I chose for Scizor are the standard moves recommended for a choice banded set. With it's main moves being U-Turn which helps scouting and pressuring the opponent and Bullet Punch which acts as a great way to revenge kill frail opposing sweepers. Superpower is there to hit Heatran and Magnezone for super effective damage, OHKing them as they switch in predicting a Bullet Punch or U-Turn. Pursuit fills the final moveslot. Pursuits main purpose is to trap opposing Pokemon (especially Ghost/ Psychic Pokemon that are choiced and locked into a non favorable move) mainly Latios, Alakazam and Gengar.

250px-Drake_Dragonite.png

StormScale (Dragonite) @Lum Berry
Trait: Multiscale
Evs: 252 Attack / 4 SpD / 252 Speed
Adamant Nature (+Attack, -SpA)
~Dragon Dance
~Outrage
~Earthquake
~Roost

I just love using Dragonite in this Generation, it's just stats are just screaming power. In my opinion, Dragonite is by far the best partner for Jirachi (reason I put it in this team), and it is able to pull of a nice, clean sweep very often. Lum Berry is probably the best item for Dragon Dancing Dragonite because it cures the status changes inflicted by the opponent that could potentially stop a sweep as well as the confusion that results after using Outrage. I decided to maximize Dragonites power by giving it 252 Evs in both Attack and Speed, making it a dangerous threat only after a couple of boosts.

A Dragon Dancing set was my choice for this Dragonite. Dragon Dance, one of the best set-up moves in the game, makes Dragonite be able to setup a sweep by increasing its speed and power. As a second move I chose Outrage. Outrage is ridiculously powerful, dealing huge damage and putting deep dents in the opponent's team; it's Dragonite's main attacking move. I prefer Earthquake over Fire Punch because I want to destroy opposing Heatrans and Jirachis. Even though I am unable to properly hit Skarmory, I don't mind because I have plenty of other Pokemon on my team to deal with the metal bird. For my last move I chose Roost so I can recover of damage from Stealth Rocks and from the opponent's attacks. Roost also allows me to abuse Multiscale effectively. Dragonite, it surely is a fierce beast.

HydroVolt (Rotom-Wash) @Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
Evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Att)
~Volt Switch
~Hydro Pump
~Trick
~Hidden Power (Ice)

The idea behind Rotom-W is rather simple, it helps being one step ahead of your opponent. With great coverage moves, great speed and special attack as well as more than average bulk, a great ability resulting in an immunity to spikes and toxic spikes, and amazing typing that grants it a number of resistances and only one weakness, Rotom-W is simply amazing. With a choice scarf I can revenge kill a number of threats, mainly Gyarados and Salamence. With max Speed (plus timid nature) and max Special Attack, Rotom-W successfully damages the opponent's Pokemon with powerful moves.

The four moves for this Rotom-W are standard but effective. The combination of Volt Switch, Hydro Pump, and Hidden Power Ice allows it to super effectively hit the opponent, and having great coverage. Volt Switch is the most important move in this set, helping in scouting the opponent's switches and being able to put me a step ahead of them. Hydro Pump is the second move of choice; with ridiculous power and STAB it inflicts a huge amount of damage, killing threats which later benefits Dragonite when it is trying to sweep. Hidden Power Ice is chosen for coverage and is especially helpful in revenge killing Salamence and Dragonites after a Dragon Dance boost. Trick is there in order to completely cripple the opponents walls, rendering them almost completely useless. Rotom-Wash is not your ordinary washing machine.

Edit: Currently testing Starmie instead of Rotom-W. Suggested by Expert Physics

Starmie @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SpD / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin

celebi.jpg

TimeGuardian (Celebi) @Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
Evs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Att)
~Stealth Rock
~Giga Drain
~Hidden Power (Fire)
~Recover

Celebi functions as a physical wall on this team with a bold nature and max HP as well as 220 Evs in Defense which makes it even bulkier. Leftovers is important because it helps Celebi gain HP after every turn, and cancels out damage from opposing sand storm. Celebi is such a great wall because it has Natural Cure as an ability, making it basically immune to opposing status moves. I love Celebi because it walls many physical attackers like Terrakion (no X-Scissor) and Metagross. Back to the Evs; 36 Speed Evs are necessary to outpace all unboosted forms of Tyranitar which can be key especially late game.

I needed a Pokemon with Stealth Rocks and Celebi seems to be a fine choice as it is very bulky and almost all ways gets a chance to set up those very important entry hazards. Giga Drain is a great STAB move which allows the fairy to recover important HP. Hidden Power Fire is just there for coverage and very importantly, to hit Scizor. Scizor just loves to switch into Celebi and than either set up a Swords Dance or U-Turn out. But not with HP Fire, with HP Fire Celebi can always 1HKO Scizor, even specially defensive ones. Recover, the last move in the set, is there for the obvious reason to heal off damage. Don't underestimate this little fairy.

Edit: Currently testing the set suggested by LilOuOn

Celebi @Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
Evs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Att)
- Stealth Rock
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power (Fire)
- Heal Bell

heatran-1.png

LavaDome (Heatran) @Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
Evs: 252 HP / 36 SpD / 220 Spe
Calm Nature (+SpD, -Att)
~Magma Storm
~Toxic
~Substitute
~Protect

The only reason I put Heatran on this team was because it has amazing synergy with Celebi. This Heatran is a bulky variant that is ment to trap and stall out multiple opposing threats. The reason I gave Heatran 220 Evs in Speed was so it would be able to outpace standard Giscor and standard Breloom. I put the remaining Evs in HP and Special Defense to make Heatran more bulky. The nature I chose was Calm and I gave it Leftovers for obvious reasons.

Looking at this set you might think that it's not too good but let me prove you wrong. Magma Storm is amazing because of its power (plus STAB) and because it helps Heatran trap the opponent. Substitute and Protect are there to stall out the opposing Pokemon as well as scouting the other Pokemon's move sets. Toxic is there to help stalling and cripple many big threats. Now I will show you why this set is all but garbage. Let's say the opponent has a Forretress on his side of the field and I have Jirachi. Jirachi can't touch Forretress so I switch out into Heatran. Obviously the opponent doesn't want to leave Forretress in on Heatran because it will most likely get grilled, so they switch out into a Pokemon that they think can take on Heatran, for example Gastrodon. As the opponent switches I can set up a Substitute. Now I am behind a Sub and can use Toxic as the opposing Gastrodon breaks the Sub. I can than use a combination of Sub-Protect to stall the opposing Pokemon out until Toxic kills it. Magma Storm is there to kill the Steal types that are unaffected by Toxic and trap opposing Pokemon to help stalling. Also Sub-Protect is very helpful in PP stalling the opponent out of a particular move. Prepare to get grilled.

MetaRidley (Skarmory) @Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
Evs: 252 Hp / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature (+Def, -SpA)
~Spikes
~Roost
~Whirlwind
~Brave Bird

I don't really feel like explaining Skarmory but I will anyways. It's a great physical wall that deals with Dragonite, Terrakion and Gyarados as well as many more threats. 24 Speed Evs are necessary in order to outpace Wobbofett (Even though I don't face many) and the remaining Evs are thrown into HP and Defense making Skarmory so amazingly physically bulky. Impish Nature even increases that defensive bulk.

Standart set. Spikes to damage the opponent's switch ins and Whirlwind to shuffle the opponent's team. Roost is there to recover damage. Brave Bird is there just so Skarmory isn't complete taunt bait and so it can damage opposing Celebi and the opponent's switch ins. This metal bird will cause much frustration.

Threat List

Major threats are shown in Red, semi-threats are shown in Green; threats that are shown in Orange are only threats depending on the set. Only actual threats are listed.

242MS.png
Blissey - Dragonite can inflict massive damage, Skarmory walls it, Heatran can trap it with Magma Storm and Toxic it. Scizor.
437MS.png
Bronzong - Big threat if it carries Earthquake
113MS.png
Chansey - Same as Blissey.
598MS.png
Ferrothorn - Destroyed by Heatran, Celebi with HP
423MS.png
Gastrodon - Big threat if it is physically bulky and carries Ice Beam, other wise Dragonite takes care of it, obviously Celebi as main counter. Scizor hits it hard with U-Turn.
130MS.png
Gyarados - Bulky variants with Taunt and Dragon Dance are a huge threat. Rotom-W and Celebi and sometimes Skarmory as counters.
612MS.png
Haxorus - Taunt variants are annoying. Rotom-W can revenge kill and Skarmory walls. Scizor revenge kills effectively.
485MS.png
Heatran - Destroys my Skarmory, Heatran and Celebi aswell as Scizor. Dragonite can't hurt variants with the Air Balloon (Hidden Power Ice is also a problem). Main counter is Rotom-W. Also Scizor likes to use Superpower as it switches in.
392MS.png
Infernape - Big threat if hazards aren't set up. Dragonite is the main counter.
593MS.png
Jellicent - Annoying but I can deal with it.
645MS.png
Landorus - Expert Belt is very dangerous. Skarmory is a good counter. Scizor revenge kills it after prior damage. Also scarfed Rotom usually kills it before ti does anything.
473MS.png
Mamoswine - Skarmory can deal with it and now that I have Scizor I am not too worried.
579MS.png
Reuniclus - Scizor takes care of it. Heatran can take a Focus Blast and Dragonite can take a Psychic. (Reasonable amounts of HP necessary)
479MS.png
Rotom-W - Celebi is the main counter. Hidden Power Fire variants are dangerous.
373MS.png
Salamence - Only dangerous if it carries Fireblast, Earthquake on the same set and has a Dragon Dance up.
212MS.png
Scizor - Most of my team can deal with it easily.
121MS.png
Starmie - Rotom-W can revenge it. (If the opponent switches I can Voltswitch out)
639MS.png
Terrakion - Scizor takes care of all variants. Skarmory is a solid counter and Celebi takes all moves but X-Scissor very well.
454MS.png
Toxicroak - Swords Dancers are very dangerous. Skarmory and Dragonite deal with Toxicroak very well though.
637MS.png
Volcarona - Heatran than Dragonite.
145MS.png
Zapdos- Only dangerous set is a sub-roosting set with toxic.

Conclusion

So here you have it, this is my team. I will happily listen to any suggestions and criteria. Please feel free to point out any flaws and anything that I didn't cover. I will test most suggestions and will keep editing this team. Once this team is completely finished I will give it free for exportation so you guys can use it in Pokemon Online. Rate Away!

Hi Shaymin22!

This is a very solid team you have here, with Heatran, Skarmory and Jirachi supporting Dragonite in the hopes of pulling off a sweep. The main threat I see to this team is Landorus, especially the Expert Belt variant. Although you have Skarmory to deal with it, it can simply U-Turn out into something else like Rotom and start applying pressure. Landorus easily OHKOs 4/6 of your team members and with Rotom locked into Volt Switch, it can easily find free switches. After Skarmory is down, you lose your main check and it's U-Turn / Earthquake shenanigans become a lot more effective when you lose your best answer to it. To combat this weakness, I would recommend running a Bulkier Rotom than your current set. A set of 112 HP / 252 SpA / 144 Spe with Will-O-Wisp > Hidden Power [Ice] and Pain Split > Trick would be more beneficial to your team. Although you lose the ability to revenge kill Gyarados and Salamence, they immediately become less of a threat to your team. Both are burned, crippling their offensive capabilities and making it easier for you to deal with them. A bulkier Rotom also gives you a better chance against the aforementioned Expert Belt Landorus, who fails to OHKO while you can burn it or straight up OHKO it back. Bulky Rotom-W also completes your FWG core, making it a lot more solid than previously. A bulkier Rotom allows you to switch into Landorus and Mamoswine safely, both of which you mentioned were threats to your team. Given that you rely heavily on Skarmory to deal with these threats, Rotom gives you a backup especially against DragMag teams where Mamoswine and Magnezone are very common.

As a result of changing your Rotom set, you lose one of your revenge killers to common Pokemon, Dragons especially. You may find that opposing Choice Scarf users become more problematic as you lost your own revenge killer. To solve this issue, I recommend changing your current Jirachi set into a Choice Scarf Jirachi. Choice Scarf Jirachi patches up a lot of weaknesses for your team. It gives you a secondary check to Dragons, as well as an invaluable revenge killer to stop opposing sweeps. Choice Scarf Jirachi forces switches by outspeeding a lot of the threats to your team. Latios, Landorus and Terrakion are all outsped by Jirachi, assuming they are not Choice Scarfed themselves and dealt with. Although you lose Wish Support to help Dragonite, you gain a lot more offensive pressure. You don't necessarily need Wish Support as much when Jirachi deals with a lot of Dragonites problems, namely faster Dragons, Terrakion and Mamoswine. Not to mention the chance of getting a status with elemental punches can also weaken foes to the point where Dragonite can clean up.

Cool team, hope I helped!

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 112 HP / 252 SAtk / 144 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch
- Iron Head

Thanks alot to the feedback! I will certainly try both of the sets you have suggested and everything you have said makes sense. With choice scarfed Jirachi, Expert Belt Landorus shouldn't be a problem and I should have an easier time with Terrakion. Thanks again.

Hi shaymin :D
Nice team and ideas! But you could have problems with status...
A burned or paralyzed d-nite does not work well, a paralyzed Jirachi like yours does not work well.
Maybe burned skarmory or paralyzed rotom w are also "useless", so maybe replacing celebi`s moveset...

TimeGuardian (Celebi) @Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
Evs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Att)
~Stealth Rock
~Giga Drain
~Hidden Power (Fire)
~Heal Bell

This works great with D-nite , Jirachi, Rotom and skarmory

Hope i helped ypu :D

Edit: You dont need really much Recover on celebi because oyu have giga drain.

@Jimbon. I found choice scarfed Jirachi very effective, but I am not pleased with defensive Rotom-W; it still seems to lack necessary bulk. I decided to keep Jirachi and Rotom-W the way they are for now! I am still considering on changing the sets however, mainly because choice scarfed Jirachi worked like a charm.
@LilOuOn. Heal Bell was so amazing! The fact that the Celebi no lacked having Recover hurt alot though as Giga Drain never restored a good amount of HP. I am currently considering of getting rid of Stealth Rock on Celebi and giving it Heal Bell instead and getting rid of U-Turn on Jirachi and giving it Stealth Rock. What does everyone think?

Hey Shaymin22! Cool team.

This is a well-crafted team. The only problem I see with your team is that entry hazards hurt your team, especially Dragonite, who needs to switch-in each time by losing 25% of its health. To fix this problem I would recommend a Standard Starmie instead of Rotom-W. Its presence still maintains powerful Electric and Water-type moves, and it also provides invaluable Rapid Spin support for your teammates. Losing Rotom-W won't change much, since Starmie plays a similar role offensively, and they pretty much have the same move (except that Starmie has Thunderbolt instead of Volt Switch and Starmie has Ice Beam over HP Ice). However, Starmie does bring Rapid Spin support so you should consider it! Cool team and good luck!

121.png

Starmie @ Leftovers | Natural Cure
Timid Nature | 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Hydro Pump | Ice Beam | Thunderbolt | Rapid Spin

The team looks pretty solid, but unfortunately it looks quite rain weak. Without a weather controller or specially defensive water resist you don't stand much chance agains rain teams that pack at least one specs Pokemon and a spinner. Not only that, but you don't have a spin blocker or a spinner yourself. A sand team with SR and one layer of spikes could rip through this team and not even be bothered with Dragonite. Especially one lacking Extreme speed. Not that I don't like Magma Storm Heatran, but what happens when another Heatran comes out on the field? Scarf Rotom W isn't exactly bulky unfortunately. The team lacks synergy. Each Pokemon has a nice set, but they don't exactly come together well and are lacking things that make it even more solid.

Suggestions: I'd just take the same 6 Pokemon and just change up the sets a bit. You could easily take out Heatran completely and add something with more offense or a weather Pokemon. I would choose sand if I were you and that would allow Celebi to no be burdened with Stealth Rock. You could also use a spinner. Synergy is the key to winning.

Or you could use something more like this: Tyranitar (Bulky), Starmie, Dragonite, Skarmory, Celebi, Scarf Jirachi/or Rotom.

Lastly for any offensive DD Dragonite I wouldn't be bothered with roost. Try this:

Dragonite (F) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Punch/ Super Power
- ExtremeSpeed

It improves your chances of getting a sweep more than roost in my opinion. Especially if you have a spinner.

Good Luck

@Expert Physics. Thanks for the suggestion. I am currently testing Starmie. I think it should work with scarfed Jirachi.
@HardCore. I really like the idea of T-Tar. I will certainly try it. I really don't see the point of running Extreme Speed on DD Dragonite (Hit scarfers?). But ill try Fire Punch/ Superpower. Thanks for the rate!

Hey nice team, I ran one like it myself a wile back.

Anyways I saw that Choice Band Terrakion and even SD Terrakion are both pretty threatening to this team, before even seeing the threatlist. Anyways, Scizor is an excellent check and Celebi walls non Choice Banded sets decently, however Scizor is extremely succeptible to switching in on either of Terrakion's STAB attacks, both of which could amount to an OHKO after hazards damage. Celebi isn't the greatest check either, as with no SpA investment, Giga Drain isn't KOing regardless of whether Terrakion has the SpDef Boost from sand [doesnt even 2HKO in sand]. That being said, I feel like you can absolve your Terrakion problems once and for all by switching Rotom-W out for a Slowbro. Slowbro is able to withstand even a +2 Terrakion Stone Edge and can shake off Close Combats from the CB Version with ease. In addition to this, Slowbro can constantly come in and take hits from Terrakion, thanks to it having regenerator. In addition to being a great Terrakion counter, Slowbro also counters both Infernape and Landorus, which you cited as threats. Additionally, I think you could use a bulkier spread on your Dragonite. Even without any investment, Dragonite still becomes quite powerful after a Dragon Dance, and running a bulkier spread just allows you to check more threats [rain and sun included] with Dragonite in general, which goes along with the playstyle of this team. I feel like you could also go with a more offensive Celebi [maybe Nasty Plot Gdrain Epower hp fire/recover] if you take the Slowbro suggestion, as you'll really have no need for a 3rd Physical wall, plus grass/psy isnt exactly the best typing for a physical wall to have.
