Wobbuffet (Custap Destiny Bond)

I'm not entirely familiar with conventions regarding how to format this etc, but I'm gonna try to copy that of other analyses as closely as possible.

Name: Custap Destiny Bond
Move 1: Encore
Move 2: Counter
Move 3: Mirror Coat
Move 4: Destiny Bond
Item: Custap Berry
Nature: Calm/Bold
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD

Why this set deserves to be on-site:

  • Almost guaruntees a double kill, if played correctly
  • Takes advantage of Wobbuffet's rather surplus final moveslot
Additional Comments:

  • Calm recommended over Bold to deal with largely specially-based Ubers, but Bold can be used for extra durability versus Groudon, Garchomp etc
Teammates and Counters:

  • Toxic users or Toxic Spikes hampers this set, as Destiny Bond fails if Wobbuffet dies to indirect damage.
  • Due to abscence of Leftovers, Sandstorm/Hail creates the same problem.
  • Special or mixed Dark-types (notably Darkrai), as well as physical or mixed Ghost-types (notably Giratina-O) prevent Wobbuffet from CounterCoating effectively.
  • Shut down by Taunt-using stat-uppers such as Mewtwo and Gyarados.
  • Works well with Toxic (Spikes) and especially Leech Seed users, as Shadow Tag prevents them from escaping as they succumb to passive damage, and in Leech Seed's case, Wobbuffet gets healed.
  • In particular, SubSeed Shaymin-S works very well with Wobbuffet, as most things that outspeed Skymin are Scarfed, making it very easy for Wobbuffet to Counter or Mirror Coat them to death.
  • Set-up sweepers such as DD Rayquaza work well with Wobbuffet as they can take advantage of Wobbuffet encoring a non-damaging move to set up.
I don't claim to have invented this set or anything, but since Custap Berry is now implemented on PokéLab, I decided to post it.

I told you to ask Theorymon about it first

Sorry... Rising Dusk said it would probably be alright but to PM you, but when you went offline before responding, I just decided to post it :/

Should I have this deleted/locked, or just leave it as it is?

Custap + Dbond is really effective, but other than that, nothing really separates this from the regular set. (apart from Custap and Dbond obviously)
Idk about making it a brand new set tbh, maybe an option on Wobby's sole lonely set :|

I agree with Moo. I don't think Custap + Destiny Bond is good enough to warrant its own set. I think this will have a mention in OC.

I agree with that, I think although that this set is a really good idea, it only deserves to be an OC, and doesn't completely merit a completely new set by itself.

Ummm....OC is for gimmick sets that don't really "work" so to speak. This will probably get an AC mention at the very least, since the only argument really is "the sets function too similarly"; in which case it only makes sense to put it in the AC of the current set. If you try to argue that Custap Wobbuffet isn't good... I simply don't know what to say ._.

Why different evs?

28 HP / 228 Def / 252 SpD

The 28 HP EVs allow Wobbuffet to gain maximum Leftovers recovery and, with a Calm nature, allows it to survive a Modest Kyogre's full powered Water Spout and OHKO back with Mirror Coat. Calm is emphasized over Bold because of the concentration on special attackers in Ubers; however, Bold can be useful to better handle Groudon, Rayquaza, Garchomp, and other physical threats in the Uber metagame.

I for one love this set and I'm actually tweaking a current Uber team which I hope to implement that set.

I just wonder how it'll work on Wynaut.

I probably think Wynaut would actually be better for this job, since Wobbuffet is so fucking bulky that you might kill something but not get Custap Berry activated (Although Wynaut survives a lot less things, but still survives things he needs to). He still survives ScarfChomp's Outrage, Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend (Or -2 Draco Meteor, even +0 Draco Meteor most of the time if SR isn't up), and mainly attacks from Scarfers.

Nah, I've found that wob has just managed to survive 2 attacks and leave it on the red. Wobb can switch in and then take the next hit, mirror/counter and then custap. What does this EV spread do, btw? I suppose an EV spread can also be changed to change the results of damage.

This set should not be denied because "this is too similar to the online set." Destiny Bond + Custap Berry is a trick completely unusable by other set; Destiny Bond is only mentioned in OC, not even in AC. It sucks without Custap.

Other sets that are both online are more similar to each other. Like both of Electivire's physically and special mix sets aim on getting a Motor Drive boost, then sweeping. They both sweep with different stats, but both aim for the same thing, and both have very similar coverage (exactly the same if the physical version uses Fire Punch in place of Earthquake). The online Wobbuffet set currently aims more on providing team support that this one (thanks to Leftovers enabling more usage of Leftovers + Safeguard or Tickle paired with Pursuit to remove specific Pokemon). Custap + Destiny Bond aims to remove at least 2 Pokemon, one via Counter/Mirror Coat, the second through the Custap + Destiny Bond.
