Welcome to the second ever Tours Plaza Monthly Championship!
What is the monthly championship?
This will be a recurring monthly tournament in which players who qualify will have the opportunity to show the skills they've polished while playing in the Tours Plaza Room on Pokemon Showdown!
How can I join?
To participate, all you have to do is play in room tournaments! Scripted tournaments in the room will award points to the top 4 participants based on the total number of entries, with 4 predetermined "official" tournaments which give an increased number of points. Lady Monita (our room-bot) logs said points to a leaderboard which is then checked at the end of each [approximately] 2 week cycle to grant the top player a Room Prize Winner (^) rank and recognition in the roomintro.
Qualification Process
Each month will be split into two cycles as follows:
Cycle 1 (ends June 15th): The top 4 on the leaderboard will qualify to play in the monthly championship, and ranks 5-8 on the leaderboard will qualify to be substitutes.
Cycle 2 (ends June 30): The top 4 on the leaderboard will qualify to play in the monthly championship, and ranks 5-8 on the leaderboard will qualify to be substitutes.
Substitutes: In the event that one or more of the top 4 qualifiers in either cycle are unable to play for any reason, substitutes will be chosen based on availability and the number of points they obtained in their respective cycle (i.e. highest points = first to be asked/considered, lowest points = last to be asked/considered)
For obvious reasons, good sportsmanship holds just as much weight as actually qualifying. Cases of toxicity, scouting, and ghosting will be investigated on a case-by-case basis and can result in a ban from participation in the tournament. If you observe any of these taking place during a room tour, notify a staff member (Room %, @, or #) with battle links/screenshots as evidence.
Qualifier Confirmation
At the end of each cycle, the top 8 players for each respective leaderboard will be posted. Each of the qualifiers will get one week to confirm their spot in the tournament, and anyone who doesn't confirm will be subject to replacement by a willing substitute.
Championship Tiers and Battle Format
With a total of 8 participants, each of the rounds will be a best of three (bo3), single elimination until a single player emerges victorious. The formats to play in will be chosen from the most recent month's list of official tournaments, and the format for each respective round will be listed on the forum thread for any given iteration of the monthly championship. As for determination of what format to play, there will be a poll for formats running in the Tours Plaza Room on PS!, and the top 3 options with the most votes will be the ones chosen for that month's championship.
Formats to be played:
Round 1: TBA
Round 2 (Semis): TBA
Round 3 (Finals): TBA
Is there a prize?
Winners of the monthly championship will receive the Room Star (✩) rank and will also be featured in the roomintro as the reigning champion until a new one is crowned.
Additional Rules
> For the most part, general tournament rules and regulations apply.
> Replays must be both saved and posted for every game played. Any game without a matching replay doesn't count. This is to make it easy to settle disputes over whether or not the custom rules were applied correctly.
> All games should be played on Pokemon Showdown!
> Matches should all be scheduled by posting on your opponent's Smogon profile ASAP. In the event that you're unable to schedule with/get a response from your opponent, make a post in the respective thread so that proper action can be taken.
> This should go without saying, but no ghosting. Instances of suspected ghosting will be investigated on a case-by-case and confirmation will result in disqualification from the tournament, with particularly egregious offenses culminating in a ban from TPMC as a whole.
> Timer / DC: Players are not required to have the timer on during their games, but in the event that they do, timing out either by way of running out of time or disconnecting and not making it back in time will count as a loss for the player who runs out of time.
