Hello there, competitive side of Smogon.
This is my very first RMT at Smogon, so I would like to present to you a rather rare sight these days, a Stall team.
Yes, the days when Obi made Stall teams VERY popular are long gone and almost everyone has been using their Offensive teams jammed with Revenge Killers.
As none of you may know me or what I'm talking about, let's just cut to the team. ^_^
Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Trace
Bold
240 HP / 176 Def / 92 SpA
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Recover
Thunder Wave
Ah yes, every team nowadays must have a Gyarados counter. Ice Beam smacks Dragons around while Thunderbolt makes this a powerful threat to Gyarados, and since I have only a small chance of Paralysis with Thunderbolt, I will go with Thunder Wave, to cripple Sweepers not Ground-type. Recover is very useful and helps me stay around longer.
Cresselia @ Choice Scarf
Modest
140 Def / 116 Speed / 252 SpA
Ice Beam
Psychic
Reflect
Lunar Dance / Hidden Power Fire
While this may seem like a novelty, it is indeed a serious set. Yes, like most of you I laughed at the sight of Scarf Cress, but it is a fantastic Chomp and MixApe counter, outspeeding both and KOing with Ice Beam and Psychic, respectively. Yache Chomp is still handled fine, a 2HKO is always nice, as you can't get KOed before outspeeding and dishing out the final blow. Infernape is also guaranteed a OHKO by Psychic, as is non-Scarf Gengar, who the Speed EVs were meant to outspeed.
If you insist in believing Infernape isn't KOed, please look at this:
The above Cresselia Nature & EV spread doing Psychic to 294 HP + 178 SpD ( 4 HP / 0 SpD ) Infernape does: 100.68% - 119.05%
As for Gengar....
The above Cresselia Nature & EV Spread doing Psychic to 262 HP + 186 HP ( 4 HP / 0 SpD ) Gengar does: 108.40% - 128.24%
We all know this Cresselia does a guaranteed OHKO on Garchomp with Ice Beam and ~50% after Yache is counted.
Now, you see Hidden Power Fire may be a joke, but it stops Scizor from switching in for free.
Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Clear Body
Calm
204 HP / 52 Def / 96 SpA / 160 SpD
Surf
Sludge Bomb
Rapid Spin
Toxic Spikes
Yes, its fantastic role of countering MixApe has been run over by ScarfCress, but it is arguable that all Stall teams must have a Spinner. It also sets up Toxic Spikes, which are almost a neccesity on a Stall team. Surf gives it a decent STAB while Sludge Bomb hammers the Grass-type you'll most likely see harder then Ice Beam, named Celebi. Rapid Spin is the second reason it's used and is always welcome.
Spiritomb @ Leftovers
Calm
252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD
Shadow Ball / Shadow Sneak
HP Fighting
Rest
Sleep Talk
Arguably the best Spin Blocker that has been made so far. Spiritomb must not go down, for since if it dies Rapid Spinners will repel my entry hazards and thus I have decided to use Rest-Talk Tomb. Shadow Ball stops Heracross from laughing but Shadow Sneak provides a move that stops Calm Mind Mismagius. Hidden Power Fighting is always nice alongside Shadow Ball, providing great coverage. :)
Machamp @ Choice Band
Guts
Adamant
128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Speed
Close Combat
Thunderpunch
Ice Punch
Payback
Machamp, while it is desired for its Rest-Talk set being able to counter Tyranitar. I've decided to turn to CBMachamp as my mini TTar counter. Close Combat is the main dish of this set and is best served with Ice Punch to give a nice gift to Gliscor and Salamence. While Thunderpunch hits Gyarados with much delight. Payback deals with the ever so annoying Dusknoir and Psychic-types such as Celebi.
Metagross @ Leftovers
Adamant
252 HP / 172 Atk / 84 Def
Meteor Mash
Stealth Rock
Ice Punch
Earthquake
One may ask, "Why Stealth Rock on Metagross?" seeing as this IS a Stall team, I will need all the entry hazards I can get to damage the opponent's Pokemon upon switching in. Also, it is a very bulky Dragon resist and has a guaranteed OHKO on all of the non-Yache Dragons with Ice Punch. Meteor Mash does a nice little push to Tyranitar and other things. While Earthquake deals with Heatran.
Also, credits to http://ownpurpose.com/libelldra/damage_calculator.html for having such a wonderful Damage Calculator for me to calculate damage on specific moves used on specific Pokemon. :)
Yes, I don't have Blissey, and I'm working on fixing that but for now I'll test this version of the Stall team on Shoddy Battle since I don't really have any room for a Blissey.
