While Rotom-W is usually seen as a bulky utility pivot, an offensive Electrium Z set has enjoyed a rise in usage recently. This set trades reliability in checking threats like Heatran and Tornadus-T and utility in status moves like Defog for increased offensive presence and the ability to severely damage Pokemon unaware of Rotom-W's set with a well-timed Gigavolt Havoc, such as Magearna and Toxapex. Since offensive Rotom-W isn't a consistent answer to the likes of Tornadus-T and Heatran, it requires additional Flying- and Fire-type switch-ins like Mega Tyranitar, Magearna, and Mega Latios; Mega Tyranitar can also enter the battlefield off of Rotom-W's Volt Switch to Pursuit trap Mega Latias and Mega Latios. Pokemon like Tornadus-T and Victini are capable of creating decent VoltTurn cores with Rotom-W, as Rotom-W attracts bulky Grass-types, which these two Pokemon can defeat.
