Zacian's niche lies in its excellent Speed, allowing it to outspeed threats like Ash-Greninja, Flutter Mane, and Ultra Necrozma and thus check them better than its competition like Arceus-Fairy. Fur Coat lets Zacian check threats like Ash-Greninja and Mega Garchomp, while Ice Scales lets it soft check Flutter Mane and Ultra Necrozma. Strength Sap is generally preferred for its higher healing output and useful Attack drops, but Shore Up can be used on Ice Scales sets to more reliably heal against low Attack Pokemon such as Mega Alakazam and Flutter Mane. Magical Torque's higher damage output is useful against Pokemon like Mega Garchomp and Mega Alakazam, but Spirit Break is more effective to stave off boosting special attackers like Nasty Plot Flutter Mane and non-Poison-type move Eternatus. Glare and Topsy-Turvy both serve as tools against setup, with the former more effective and disruptive but also more difficult to Imposter-proof and useless against Flare Boost Flutter Mane. Spikes and Stone Axe help reduce Zacian's passivity by providing entry hazard support. Leftovers is useful to reduce the frequency that Zacian needs to recover, while Rocky Helmet harshly punishes Ash-Greninja. Ability Shield is a niche choice that improves its matchup against Moongeist Beam and non-STAB-boosted Sunsteel Strike users. Fur Coat Zacian can struggle against certain physical attackers like Zacian-C and Mega Lucario, so teammates that can cover them such as Fur Coat Arceus-Electric and Mega Swampert are appreciated. Ice Scales Zacian has trouble with Eternatus and repeated attacks from Mega Alakazam and Flutter Mane, making secondary special walls like RegenVest Primal Kyogre good teammates. Zacian can be Imposter-proofed by Pokemon like Fur Coat Take Heart Arceus formes, Imposter Chansey, and Magic Bounce Ho-Oh.
