[Overview]

Zamazenta boasts a powerful STAB move in Close Combat, further boosted by its high Attack combined with a Choice Band, high Speed tier, and great coverage moves. Despite this, it faces stiff competition with better Fighting-types in the tier such as Urshifu-S and Marshadow as a Choice Band user. Urshifu-S and Marshadow can also carry priority and pivot moves, further outclassing Zamazenta as it lacks those options altogether. Additionally, two of Zamazenta's most powerful moves either lower its defenses or cause recoil damage, giving foes an opportunity to force a switch or KO it.

[SET COMMENTS]

Crunch helps Zamazenta check Psychic- and Ghost-types, OHKOing Calyrex-S on the switch and 2HKOing Power Herb Lunala with a chance of lowering the foe's Defense. Psychic Fangs does a better job at checking Marshadow, OHKOing it, and allows Zamazenta to 2HKO Eternatus. Wild Charge checks with Ho-Oh, Yveltal, and Kyogre, especially after chip damage, which can KO or stall Zamazenta.

Pivots such as Cinderace and Yveltal are appreciated for their ability to generate momentum and bring Zamazenta in safely. Yveltal is also a great answer to Calyrex-S and can provide Defog and Knock Off support as well. Since Zamazenta has no way to recover lost HP from recoil and chip damage, Blissey and Clefable can provide Wish support. Entry hazard support from Groudon, Eternatus, and Necrozma-DM are appreciated to chip the opposing team and allow Zamazenta to have an easier time at KOing foes that would otherwise check it.

Other Options

====

====

**Residual damage**: Recoil damage from Wild Charge, entry hazard damage, and certain status effects limit Zamazenta's usefulness and can put it on a timer.

**Fighting resists**: Because of the prevalence of Fighting resists in the tier, Zamazenta cannot find many opportunities to switch in. It is also risky to lock Zamazenta into a move that healthy foes resist, especially Close Combat against Ghost-types.
