Despite great defensive stats and high Attack, Glastrier finds itself in ZU alongside fellow struggling legendary Regirock. Here, it can use its stats to 1v1 a large portion of the metagame. Icicle Crash and High Horsepower provide coverage against most Pokemon in the tier. Only a few outliers like Cryogonal and Orthworm resist these moves. Rest provides Glastrier with recovery against chip damage and status. This allows it to avoid being shut down by status users such as Weezing and Sableye while still exerting offensive pressure with Sleep Talk. Checks like Clawitzer, Typhlosion, and Hitmontop don't like to switch in on Glastrier, as its heavy-hitting attacks can quickly wear them down. Glastrier pairs well with Lanturn due to its ability to act as a pivot and resist Fire-type moves. Snorlax and Weezing are also decent partners since they are good against Fire- and Fighting-types, respectively. Because this set runs only two attacking moves and no setup, it can lose to setup sweepers like Curse Snorlax and physical walls like Orthworm. This can be remedied by running wallbreakers and Encore users such as Toxicroak and Sableye.

Trotz hervorragender defensiver Werte und hohem Angriff findet sich Glastrier im ZU-Metagame wieder, gemeinsam mit anderen gestrauchelten Legenden wie Regirock. Dort kann es seine Statuswerte nutzen, um einen Großteil des Metagames im 1v1 zu bezwingen. Icicle Crash und High Horsepower bieten zusammen nahezu perfekte Coverage im Tier, denn nur wenige Ausnahmen wie Cryogonal und Orthworm widerstehen beiden Attacken. Rest sorgt für zuverlässige Regeneration gegen Chip-Schaden und Statusprobleme. Dadurch wird Glastrier nicht von Status-Nutzern wie Weezing oder Sableye ausgehebelt und kann dank Sleep Talk weiterhin offensiven Druck ausüben. Checks wie Clawitzer, Typhlosion und Hitmontop wechseln nur ungern ein, da sie von Glastriers kraftvollen Attacken schnell zermürbt werden. Glastrier harmoniert gut mit Lanturn, das als Pivot fungiert und Feuer-Attacken resistiert. Auch Snorlax und Weezing sind solide Partner, da sie jeweils gut mit Feuer- bzw. Kampf-Typen umgehen können. Da dieses Set jedoch nur zwei Angriffsattacken ohne Set-up-Option spielt, kann es gegen Set-up-Sweeper wie Curse-Snorlax oder physische Walls wie Orthworm den Kürzeren ziehen. Dieses Problem lässt sich durch starke Wallbreaker oder Encore-Nutzer wie Toxicroak und Sableye ausgleichen.
