ZUPL VII - Commencement Thread

These manager pair selections have got to be a joke. At first, I thought that its better to stay silent and let it pass, but on reconsidering it, I think it sets a dangerous precedent for the future. From what I understand, there are two primary qualities that the host looks for in any manager that has signed up.
Competence and experience in said tiers
Team chemistry /Ability to lead a team
One can argue about the weightage of said qualities, but everyone agrees that these are what every manager should have at the bare minimum. If you sign up to manage, it means that you back yourself in both these departments. Its then the host's job to use their best judgement to pick the best out of the bunch, for the overall health and success of the tournament. That does not seem to be the case here.
One look at the manager pairs, and anyone that has been keeping up with ZU in recent times will tell you that something is off.

sucks for our run to end with one of the worst weeks playing-wise we've had in the entire tour. so many throws from multiple people (including me, i'm the first to be guilty) really make you go out of the tour with a sour mouth, thinking about what could've been. anyway, it was a very cool experience, and a good run overall, so big thanks to everyone.
Drud again thanks for wanting to manage with me and trusting me with selfbuying, sorry that i couldn't give the record you might've expected but teaming w you was a great experience, i learned a lot on how to properly manage a team. also you're still the goat of dpp but please stop running teams with an average speed of 2. yache chatot.

Esteb4n - Idk what I would have done without Esteben, he was my main testing partner for the majority of the tour and truly a great guy who always brightened the mood in the teamcord. Despite not playing zu much before this he picked up the tier fast and was always motivated to learn more about the tier. I hope to see him again next year so toto can lose even more hair. Trichotomy - despite making me crash out in semi finals by not clicking a certain move with Sandslash, trichhotomy always turned up when we needed him to do so the most. Saved us from losing in semi finals and closed out finals for us confidently. I hope the pekos w cheered you up a bit after the eagles loss :paintoto:
AstilCodex - Not gonna lie bro was way more active until we actually got him on the team in w3 :ben: He's a peko oldhead though so glad he's here with us for the first W of many
TheFranklin - unfortunately we made him play the worst tier ever made again but he still did amazing nonetheless. I think this guy has never choked a game in his life. He was a part of the team since almost the beginning and finally got the well-deserved trophy. Hopefully next year he will get to play something else
btboy - I was seriously doubting after the first 2 weeks, but unc still got it. He also got a gun. The way btben clicks super effective move every turn cannot be replicated. In all seriousness I could always rely on unc. Whenever he saw me resting, he helped me. When we saw someone working, we moved away as to not disturb them.
HAVOCKNIGHT - MVP of the team, the real manager helping in every tier besides like ADV and SS,
Crazy builder and player, basically went undefeated in his tier besides games lost to hax, and helped plague to a great record in dpp with his teams too. Insane improvement from last ZUPL. Havocknight is thanos
Foolycl - fooly-chan unfortunately ended with a negative record after losing a 50/50 to 5hax in finals but I think he still did pretty well, considering it's his first time playing bw zu and it's in my opinion probably the most punishing / hardest to play zu gen. Hop on amq

Very cool tour, a bit sad that the tour ends because pekos was an amazing team with very cool vibes. zu is a fun tier + my plays were appreciated by my cap which was the most important
i got super lucky overall on the season so I could hopefully bring some wins to my team so happy about that.

Day 1829 : Toto shoutouts
Its finally happened after 5 years of managing this tour. Pekos have won ZUPL and thus I am required do to shoutouts. But before that a little backstory on pekos. It all started in ZUPL 3 where I was the solo manger and succeeded to somehow make playoffs on debut despite have little to no experience. Fast-forward 2 years and we find ourselves in finals tiebreak against the reigning champs frees. Heartbreak strikes though and we fall at the final hurdle. At the time I was pretty upset but in hindsight we significantly overperformed with our roster and weren't the best team of the tour. That couldn't be said for the following year however which made losing in tiebreak to frees again hurt even worse. Our roster was stacked and we were 1st seed going into playoffs. At this point I was questioning myself if I could win and was ready to give up. I decided to give it one final go though with some convincing and I'm glad I did. This years roster was just as good if not better than last years and we cruised to 1st seed yet again and won the tour! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
btboy - My partner in crime who has been by my side for all 5 years. I could not have won this tour without you. Over the years you have put in crazy support and activity and always put a smile on my face with your humour. Our oldgen skills complement each other perfectly with you being a master of SM/BW/DPP and myself handling SS/ORAS (insert NO ADV gif). However, because everybody knows this though you always get upbid every year. This year was different though, one could say that you were actually an underpay? Btboy getting 5 wins in SM ZU? Basically carrying the team.
HAVOCKNIGHT - Ok serious talk now onto the real carry on the team and maybe the best retain of all time? When me and fish were discussing our retains options your name popped up straight away, which is saying something as we had at least 5 very good retain/self buy options that other teams would kill for and we could only pick 3. We definitely made the right choice though, your pure perfection. A monster support wise in every slot, have previous tour winning manager experience and main the gen which is notoriously a headache to draft & support? You really cant get much better. Oh wait, it does get better as you went undefeated in the regular season?!
TheFranklin - My star player over the years Mr consistency with an insane 22-7 record over 4 years of being a peko. Like btboy you are never cheap and always get upbid, however unlike btboy you are actually worth it every time. Its always reassuring whenever I see your the next scheduled game cause I know a win is most likely incoming. On top of all that you are just a genuinely good guy. Always a pleasure to be around and glad you have stuck with me for all these years when your so busy and have more important tours to be in.
yo cho - SV GOAT. I owe you big time for carrying me the past 2 years in SV as the main builder. I did try to draft you with support both times but you know what happened. Your play is also impeccable with a fantastic record both seasons even when I'm actively slotting your into other teams hardest players while fishing is drowning in sv4 half the time. Your semis tiebreak game was amazing to watch and a turning point of success for the tour win. If you ever need someone to ping you asking for pastes you know where to find me.
fish anemometer - SV GOAT? nah. Cancer goat maybe. I'm glad I got to manage with you though and despite all the cancer jokes this season I know you put in the effort and cared alot about the team and wanting to help us win. I still haven't and will never forgive you though for cancering the first few weeks when I drafted you 2 years ago cause you thought you got drafted to a bad team and then you wouldn't let me retain you and you jumped ship to manage the flamencos instead. BRUH. Luckily im the PU GOAT and went undefeated in PUWC so had you in a binding contact to manage with me this year so welcome home.
Esteb4n - To this day I still don't know if your actually good at mons or not or just lucky. Many people would probably describe me that way too though and a 6-2 record is pretty good though so ill give you the benefit of the doubt. Fish approves of you too so there that too I guess. Although after this season I'm not sure if trusting fish's opinion is a good thing. Your activity and motivation is something that I can definitely appreciate though, always up for test games and tried your best a building too. Also your a great emote spammer.
Trichotomy - Ok now this guy is good at mons for sure in comparison to esteben. Even if we did carry you in reg season you more than made up for it in playoffs which is what matters. You also tested frequently and were very reasonable with our sv teambuilding crisis at times and being up to use anything for the good of the team.
Foolycl - BW GOAT? Ok maybe not but you did an amazing job nonetheless with this tier. BW is a coinflip tier so our plan was always to get a cheap slot there and you cant really ask for much more than a neutral record. When fish suggested or more so told me we were getting you I was not completely convinced but I couldn't really complain as I told fish we were breaking the bank for btboy so I let fish get their btboy equivalent. I was pleasantly surprised though as you were really fun to team with and also good at mons.
Plague - Havock had high praise of you pre draft and now I can see why. Your a machine in DPP! I know you were a little upset from going 3-0 into 3-3 for reg season and not replicating your Olympiad success but after your break week w7 you came back stronger and rejuvenated in playoffs being one of the few players to go 2-0 in playoffs.
Fogbound Lake - Not gunna lie when we fumbled getting czim for adv we were all pretty distraught. That didn't last long however as we had to choose a replacement quickly as we all decided that you were the next best choice and I can confidently say that we were right. One thing that I did not expect however was how active you would be prep wise. In the early weeks especially if was amazing to watch you and melninja cook up ideas and test so thoroughly. You also stepped up for us as our counterpick tier in tiebreak so I will be forever grateful even if you did cancer finals and stress me out every other week with your scheduling.
Melninja - Crazy active and contagious enthusiasm towards ADV and the team in general. I wish we could have got you to play more games but atleast you got a couple reps in with a 6-0 beatdown nonetheless.
AstilCodex - The supersub and old friend from ZUPL 3 reunited after all this time. I still hate fish for not drafting you when I had to leave midraft but it worked out in the end so all is good. Wish you also could have played a couple more games but the one you did play were impressive for the little amount of time and knowledge with current sv.
Hubriz - dpp-the-hubrizzler-feat-mommy-thighs. I keep repeating myself here but this is the last time. Which you could have played more games and showed us the power of slaking. You've been an insane pickup over the past 2 years. I'm not sure why the other manager keep letting me pick you up for cheap. Hope you enjoyed bench riding this tour.
