Our next Pokemon is...

Durant

What can Durant do to beat its usual checks and counters? Is there anything it can do apart from its fearsome offensive sets? Or is there a tweak to it that exists to make it even more fearsome?

Durant @ Leftovers / Lum Berry
Hustle | Jolly
252 Atk | 4 Def | 252 Spe
- Hone Claws
- Iron Head / X-Scissor
- Substitute
- Baton Pass

Durant has shaky coverage, and it will usually be checked or countered by many Pokemon depending on which coverage move you choose. If you choose to run Rock Slide, you are left walled by Steel-types, and if you choose Superpower, you will be checked easily by Flying- and Fire-types. No matter what you run, Qwilfish is probably the best option to deal with Durant. Resisting all of its moves (bar Thunder Fang i guess), and carrying Thunder Wave to subtract the threatening level of it, Qwilfish seems impossible to break through. That is, until one tries this set. Substitute will dodge obvious Thunder Waves / Will-O-Wisps, and Baton Passing a Substitute is very nice support. Baton Pass is the crux of the set, as it helps it indirectly cope with its counters by passing the (potential) boost into something more fit to take out said counters. Leftovers = more subs | Lum Berry = fucks more with Qwilfish.

Bashes things hard turn 1, and can net momentum on predicted switches. X-Scissor does a ton to slower stuff, most notably Slowking and Tangrowth who fold to it. Rock Slide is useful in KOing Fire-types and Flying-types like Entei, Moltres and Sigilyph while smashing Rotom-N pretty hard. I'm not a fan of Iron Head because it doesn't hit very much (Cryogonal lol?) but can be used for the flinch or consistent damage on Rhydon, but Superpower is so that Steels like Steelix, Klingklang and especially Magneton don't ruin your day. Baton Pass is the kicker to this set though. Say a Magneton, Qwilfish or Alomomola is going to switch-in and wall the bollocks out of you, or an Absol is pinning your near-dead self with Sucker Punch. Predict that and Baton Pass to something else to total them, like say Emboar, Sceptile or Liligant or something. Either you wreck them, or give a teammate the switch advantage then continue to wreck them. Not having U-turn sucks, but tough shit this will have to do :P.

Durant has enough power already, so why would you use Life Orb? It only shortens the length of time Durant can go on his mini-sweep for, and with the decent coverage Durant possesses he is only losing out on 10% power each attack, and thinking that you would lose that much HP otherwise it only makes sense. As far as I know it doesn't miss out on any more kills, given that Durant is so powerful anyway.

Durant @ Leftovers
Trait: Swarm
EVs: 252 Spd / 248 HP / 8 Def
Jolly Nature
- Swagger
- Thunder Wave
- Substitute
- Iron Head

Parafusion/Paraflinching Durant, good options for teammate include Liepard, Purrloin, and Murkrow.

Edit cause mad @ ant: Durant forces a lot of switches, due to its attacking prowess, allowing it many opportunities to set up a sub. Once behind a sub, this durant can support its team by spreading paralysis and annoy the opponent by flinch haxing/confusion haxing them to death (preferably both). Swarm is chosen over hustle, because you want the hax on your side, not on the side of the opponent. This durant has a decent chance to get around its usual counter, as a paralyzed/confused opponent only has a 26.25% chance of doing anything after an iron head. If you thought SilentVerse had a problem with ant before, just play him with swag ant.

Durant @ Electric Gem
Trait: Hustle
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- Iron Head
- X-Scissor
- Thunder Fang

This is a Durant set aiming for luring out and removing thre of its main counters, Qwilfish, Poliwrath and Moltres while still being able to sweep late game with Hone Claws.
Here are some calcs:
252 Atk Electric Gem Hustle Durant Thunder Fang vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Qwilfish: 246-290 (73.65 - 86.82%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Spikes
+1 252 Atk Electric Gem Hustle Durant Thunder Fang vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Poliwrath: 314-370 (81.77 - 96.35%) -- 93.75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Spikes
Durant has a high chance to OHKO both of them after SR and one layers of spikes with Thunder Fang.
252 Atk Electric Gem Hustle Durant Thunder Fang vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Moltres: 306-360 (95.32 - 112.14%) -- 68.75% chance to OHKO
It is OHKOed most of the time even without a boost and SR.
The worse part of this set is its surprise value may be gone when Thunder Fang misses:(

i dont see how this beats durants counters at all. all you did was switch the item that doesnt change the princple of the set at all?? for example lum berry > because it beats status mons that wreck durant like twave qwilfish and shit, Expert belt doesn't seem very helpful at all compared to alternate item choices.

i just wanna note that this project is not 'the coolest set that isn't onsite', its the 'the set that most effectively beats its usual checks and counters'
Having said that, I would also like to deviate from simple one move / item changes. For example, using Lum Berry over Life Orb on an SD Absol does nothing to show any untapped potential Absol has because we already have a basic understanding of what SD Absol is and does, it's just now better at dealing with status and has less power.

Durant @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Swarm
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- X-Scissor
- Superpower
- Rock Slide / Stone Edge

  • Fast as fuck scarfer with ok power, typing, and movepool.
  • Swarm because fuck Hustle making me miss.
  • Adamant because it is fast as fuck and still outspeeds important mons like Lilli at +1 and because the extra power is more helpful than beating Scarf Galvantula and Manectric.
  • Rock move because Thunder Fang is not worth it without Hustle.
  • Doesn't care about priority because of its decent physical bulk and steel type unlike some other RU scarfers that are vulnerable to either Aqua Jet Sucker Punch or ExtremeSpeed
  • Did I say you only fear missing with the Rock move?

Durant @ Salac Berry
Trait: Swarm / Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
IVs: 30 HP
Jolly Nature
- Hone Claws
- X-Scissor
- Substitute
- Baton Pass / Iron Head

This set is from my own, SubSalac HC Durant ! The idea of this set is get ride of their most offensive checks to Durant like Emboar or Magneton for example, this set has two variants, one of them is around Baton Pass which allows usually to Durant to Baton Pass a +1 on Atk / Speed and Accuracy while also still can sweep thanks to Swarm + Hone Claws with Salac Berry outruns every mon on the tier, the other variant with Hustle + Iron Head allows to Durant a bit better coverage and hits stronger which helps to sweep against more offensive teams but this variant struggles more against Qwilfish, Poliwrath or Steelix, while the other just can Baton Pass with different boost. Btw, 30 ivs HP is for Substitute number.

Celever yeah Kenny is absolutely right on this one. Your set doesn't really change Durant much at all, it just makes it a tad more long lasting at the cost being slightly less powerful without beating anything else specific, and Expert Belt vs Life Orb is pretty much preference anyway? Please change the set or it will be disqualified from voting.

Also atomicllamas please include more explanation in your post, just a few short sentences isn't going to be enough to explain how the set works to beat its usual counters and why it should be used over its standard sets

Basically if you can explain why you should use your set over the standard, it generally should be acceptable
