No, Lanturn is a complete boss in Nuzlocke's, espescially since it gets a secondary STAB without TM's.

Chinchou is a boss.

Time for update No2

Still partially shocked by Arceus' revelation I gear up on supplies from home ready to hit the road and tell my mom, "That's a great idea Blaze so long as you promise to be carfeul, your father started training at your age too" she said surprisingly OK with that" I said as i left and Phoenix also reassure my mom with a smile, but I still had stuff to take care of.

i head over to Prof. Birch's lab and meet up with May and I promptly receive a Pokedex and then I reveal my motives to leave to May and Prof. Birch. "Uh guys I've decided to hit the road and start my own journey with Pokemon to become a Pokemon Master" I said. "Well that's interesting, May can teach you how to catch Pokemon" said Prof. Birch and May was more than willing to help, she took me to Route 101 just north of Littleroot and she taught me how to by catching a wild Zigzagoon easily weakining it with her Mudkip. I was eager to try next and May gave me 5 Pokeballs and said "Good Luck". "Thanks May!" I said and thought, I would be putting less Pokemon at risk of dying if i only caught 1 per area and so I decided it.

May and I say our final good byes and she suggests a battle before she leaves and i accept.

Battle: Blaze vs May (1)

"Phoenix use Scratch" i commanded and he was glad to oblige, he closed in and rushed at May's Mudkip who takes the hit and retaliates with Tackle. Both Pokemon shrug off the hits and we repeat the same attacks this time it looks like it's doing some damage to them this was going to be close. "Phoenix, one more scratch!" I command and Phoenix focuses its energy and scratches May's Mudkip landing a critical hit having found Mudkip's weak point. Mudkip faints (I didn't have Focus Energy though I still got the crithax).

May recalls Mudkip (Now Torchic learns Focus Energy) "Good Job, Blaze" she says congratulating me on the win and awards me with a Potion to heal Phoenix and she returns with her Mudkip to Littleroot.

A few steps into the route and I already see Oldale Town and not a single Pokemon encounter. We arrive in Oldale Town and visit the Pokemart to stock up. I start getting the urge to catch a Pokemon so I make for Route 103 north of Oldale after healing Phoenix.

"You ready Phoenix?" I ask and Phoenix and Phoenix releases an assuring cry and I enter the wild grass aiming to catch my first wild Pokemon. A wild Poochyena jumps out of the grass, "Phoenix, Scratch!" i command and it OHKO's the Poochyena. "So much for catching a Pokemon" I say sadly.

"Hey Phoenix, let's try Route 102 " I say and we go there, leaving west from Oldale Town, and we immediately encounter a Wurmple which we capture after a single scratch and two Pokeballs (For those of you doubting the OHKO on the Poochyena, it was actually a 2HKO, i decided I didnt want to catch a Lv2 Female Poochyena) "Alright we did it Phoenix" I shout as we celebrate our capture. "Wurmple come out" i say and bring Wurmple out of it's Pokeball. "Hmm, what should i name you?...I know...I'll call you, Earthworm!. Phoenix meet Earthworm". With the introductions done we continue on the Route to train.

After all the risky training we arrive in Petalburg City. "Ah Petalburg City, home to the Balance badge and gym leader Norman. Don't worry guys, we're heading to the Pokemon Center right now".

"There, your Pokemon are all healed". "Thanks alot ma'am". "Now to find the gym". Soon enough we find the gym and Norman and he's talking with someone. "Hey you must be Norman" I said. "Indeed I am and lemme guess your a trainer looking for a gym battle", "Yep!". "Well that'll have to wait, the gym isn't running now sorry".

"So that's a no go. Might as well keep on training guys. Earthworm come out! Let's check out this route to the west". i said upon leaving the gym then a strange dude walks up to me and says "Oh sorry I thought you were a trainer" "I am" I respon insulted. "You sure don't look like it, sorry i wasted your time". "That was awkward, come on guys let's go" and i run into a wild Marill.

"Alright, Earthworm go!, Use Poison Sting!" I commanded as i sent out Earthworm from its Pokeball. He uses its tail and stabs the Marill head-on and the Marill curls up to soften up the impact, but it still poisons it. The Marill starts staggering due to the poison and i command another attack from Earthworm. "Earthworm, Tackle!", the Marill curls up again and Earthworm barely does any apparent damage. But, the poison continues weakening it. Some more tackles and defense curls later i attempt to capture it before the poison knocks it out. "Earthworm that's enough, Pokeball go" the ball opens and the Marill is taken into it, it shakes thrice and then stops, i succeed. "Good Job guys and now let's meet our new friend" i said and then brought out the newly caught Marill still suffering from poison and thus i immediately feed it a Pecha berry. 'I'll call you Pikablue, wejcome to the group' and i introduce it to Earthworm and Phoenix.

We continue training and eventually reach Petalburg woods, i don't catch anything here but instead i train the team. Upon completing the training and getting Earthworm to evolve into a Cascoon as well as getting new moves, including Ember on Phoenix, we approach the exit and then...I meet a trainer that wants to battle and i accept confidently.

'Yeah sure i'm up for it' and i send out Earthworm to battle. Earthworm easily KO's his Zigzagoon but when it comes down to his Seedot...'Earthworm Poison sting!' i repeated over and over again and Earthworm obeyed but we were unlucky enough to get no poison hax and the opposing trainer commands a Bide. I tell Earthworm to finish it with a Tackle 'Tackle now!' but he misses 'Huh?!' and gets Ko'ed by the power of the bided poison stings. I drop down to my knees and look over to Earthworm imobile, 'My first capture now my first loss. i'm sorry Earthworm'. The Seedot's trainer to busy celebrating victory doesn't notice but it's not over yet and i send out Pikablue to avenge Earthworm. 'Pikablue do it! Tackle now!' Pikablue rushes and quickly finishes off the Seedot and i walk away before its trainer can say anything.

'I can't believe i lost Earthworm, but don't worry guys that'll never happen to you, I promise'

To giganinja:

If the E4 is the same as the original GSC series, Lanturn with Double STAB + Ice Beam can pretty much clean Lance and Wallace's team and half of Karen's team so it's definitely worth the investment. All-out attacking Starmie (with Psychic) can pretty much clean the entire E4 (including Koga and Bruno).

Sorry, I haven't really taken into account the availability of TMs.

Holy shit I can rebattle Joey in my HG nuzlocke right now :D

I'm currently grinding for the 8th gym, I want to have Draco Meteor on my Dragonair. Also, my team now consists of Mint the still awesome Feraligatr (lvl 40), Maya the not-yet-oh-so-awesome Dragonair (lvl 38), Marie the yay-it-finally-got-STAB Espeon (lvl 37), Rick the I-stole-the-name Electrode (lvl 36) and Haegar the I-want-it-to-get-EQ-sooner Pupitar (lvl 34). I also get a shitload of Def EVs right now because I'm using route 45 to grind and am battling nothing but Graveler, Geodude, Gligar and Phanpy. Huzzah!

(does anyone know what happiness is necessary to be able to teach Draco Meteor from the move tutor?)

Anyways, I'm planning on getting rid of Trollfreak my Farfetch'd which I'm using as a cut/Fly slave right now for Entei when I catch it later on. Entei because I'm angry that my Magmar died to a critical Explosion in the Radio tower (God I hated that part... Every second thing exploded on me. What didn't used smoke screen, THEN exploded.)

After quite some time (last time I posted in this thread was March o.o) I decided to come back to the Nuzlocke thread. Need something to do with all of my spare time, right? I bought a hard copy of Black version the other day, so I figured why not do a Nuzlocke. Here's the rules I will be using:

-Fainted Pokemon are dead
-Battle style put on "Set"
-Can only use items I find
-Can use items in battle
-Cannot use revives
-Catch first Pokemon I see in an area. Since there's so few routes in Black/White, I'm counting each sections of a location as different areas i.e. inside/outside Pinwheel Forest
-White out means game over, even if I have Pokes in the computer.

I'll be typing up a story as I go along, since that's fun and such. Wish me luck :D

alright got pokemon white to muck around on. nuzlocke run where i'll start with tepig:

only use items i pick up apart from gym leaders where i can use items gotten anywhere and pokeballs. will try and catch just using pokeballs, see how that goes
faint = box and never touch again
first mon in every new area even if they are duplicates
dont sell anything
nickname every mon
battle style is set so i cant switch when another mon faints
no revives

think that's everything covered?

So, I now have 16 badges in my HeartGold nuzlocke. My team is as follows...

Mint the Feraligatr
(m) lvl 57 @ Leftovers
Sassy Nature
- Waterfall
- Rock Climb
- Ice Fang
- Agility

Holy shit he is awesome. Solo'd like half of the Pokémon League and takes virtually no damage whatsoever from anything. Sassy nature and good IVs overall as well as repeated grinding against Gravelers (def EVs) make him incredibly bulky, and he can take almost any attack. He solo'd Lance after Gyarados was taken out by Rick the Electrode (Thunder actually hit), and I gave him an X attack so it could actually OHKO those darn cheater-Dragonites that are five levels too low to actually be Dragonites. Most definitely the MVP throughout the game, and just the go-to guy for anything if something needed to be taken care of and didn't have supereffective STAB.

Marie the Espeon
(f) lvl 56 @ Wise Glasses
Gentle nature
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Swift
- Sand Attack

She was great, though often somewhat frail. However, her swift and Sand-Attack were really useful in dealing with opponents that thought being small/duplicate was funny (hint: Double Team and Minimize), and making them miss often. I caught Mewtwo with -6 accuracy from this lil girlie here, and it landed exactly one Psycho Cut on my Feraligatr in the ~30 turns that it was out (including a Paralysis from Maggie, whom you don't know yet). I only taught her Psychic recently because I got tired of using weak ol' Psybeam all the time, but it was really useful. Mint took care of Gar... I mean Blue's Machamp though, not her (she was just too frail).

Maggie the Magneton
(//) lvl 56 @ nothing
?? Nature (forgot and my DS is out of battery)
- Discharge
- Thunderwave
- Mirror Shot
- Flash
This thing is far from optimum at the moment, I'm grinding to get Thunderbolt from the Goldenrod Casino (got 5000 coins in one session last night), but it did solo Misty rather effectively. Got it from the trade in the Power Plant, and am basically just using Mirror Shot... Flash was thrown in there because I needed it for some cave (I think it was the Cerulean Cave), but it's not like it actually learns a whole lot of moves anyway... still, packs a heck of a lot more punch than Rick, my relaxed Electrode (seriously, it has like 5 speed points more than Marie on the same level...)

Haegar the Tyranitar
(m) lvl 56 @ Muscle Band
Gentle nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Focus Punch

Ever since he and Maya evolved, I was reluctant to use them because they're just that strong :P But seriously, try coming out of the second Kanto gym with Tyranitar and Dragonite, and you're pretty much set. He solo'd Sabrina (Marie did the rest), and I pretty much grinded him up to lvl 55 just for her so it'd have STAB. I always found it funny how he had a gentle nature though... And Focus Pawnch. I pretty much simply taught him that as a filler, just in case I need it... It's the only fighting move in my team until Mint learns Superpower and I'm not even sure if I'm gonna let him learn that. Anyways, he kicks ass, just as expected. Shit I got lucky finding him as a teeny weeny Larvitar in the Safari Zone.

Maya the Dragonite
(f) lvl 56 @ Dragon Fang
Hardy nature
- Dragon Dance
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Rush
- Surf

I'm really trying to restyle his moveset, but I want Dragon Claw first... Also, should I keep Draco Meteor? I dunno, but it seems like a good idea to have a nuke, just in case. Not much action since evolution, pretty much same story as with Haegar, though Surf was rather useful for Brock, which she took care of together with Mint.

Then there's also Saomana, my Ho-oh, but it's just an HM slave ;P It knows Strength, Rock Smash, Fly and Sacred Fire (Nobody needs Cut :P)

Will update again when I beat Red, complete with deaths and stuff.

So unfortunately, I've given up on my Nuzlocke of White. Maraca died, and I just don't have the will to continue without any of my original members. Not to mention the insane grinding I have to do to raise my 2 new members...

I tried this in Emerald and ended up with 4 Poochies before the 1st gym, so I quit :P

I think I'll start this again.

I have never done a Nuzlocke before, and I was planning on doing it on HeartGold, and I was wondering, do I fight every trainer and wild poke possible or will that make me too overleveled? Or will not fighting all of them make me underleveled? Help please :D

Nuzlocke: Black Version

Chapter 1:
"Look, Caleb, there's a box on your desk!"
"Thank you captain obvious, Bianca."
"Be quiet guys, I'm reading the note on the box."
Caleb, you're finally old enough to venture out on your own. Inside I have left three Pokemon, one for you, and one for each of your closest friends. Make your selections and come by my lab later. -Prof. Juniper
The ribbon was untied and inside were three Pokeballs. Caleb reached inside and selected the middle one, while his friends chose the ones on the outside.

"Wow, a Pokemon! I bet it's just so cute!" squealed Bianca with joy as she let out her Pokemon. An Oshawott appeared before her, and Bianca quickly scooped up her friend into her arms and squeezed him. "You're are too cute! Caleb, let's battle!"
"What? We're in my room though."
"Who cares! Isn't my Oshawott just so adorable! Battle me, please!"
"Fine..."

"Caleb, you're Snivy is so strong! You must have cheated and trained first."
"Bianca, he picked his Pokemon at the same time as you."
"Cheren, you're such a meanie."
"Here, let me heal both of your Pokemon."

"Thanks, Cheren. Say, want to try out a battle, too?"
"I suppose so. But be warned, Caleb. I have the upper hand." Cheren let out his Pokemon, a Tepig, and the two friends began to duke it out in battle. The Pokemon fought well, but Snivy came out the victor. "Good work Caleb. Looks like I need to train harder. Come on, let's go to Professor Juniper's lab."

The three friends returned their Pokemon and walked the short distance over to the laboratory. Once inside they were greeted by a familiar face and the one who gave them their Pokemon. "Welcome, you three. I'm..."
"Professor Juniper, we know. We live in the same town."
"Cheren, no need to be rude. I'm making a formal introduction. I'm Professor Juniper. Hmm... that's strange. Your Pokemon seem to be acquainted with you already. I take it you three were too eager to wait to battle? Well, how about you give you Pokemon a nickname?"

Caleb pulled out his Pokeball and stared at the sphere. Inside was his companion, a Snivy, but what to name him? "Stephen..."

Chapter 2:
"Come on guys! We should take our first step into the real world together."
"Bianca, you're always so chipper."
The trio linked arms together and took a step onto the beaten up dirt path leading out of their hometown. Before they were simply kids. Now they were teenagers adventuring on their own in a world filled with danger. "Hey, look, it's Professor Juniper!" shouted Bianca as the group neared the professor.

"I forgot the most important part. Here, take some Pokeballs." The Professor held out a handful of Pokeballs for each trainer, then went north, leaving them on their own.
"Caleb, Cheren! Let's have a contest. The person who catches the most Pokemon wins!"
Bianca rushed off into the tall grass, and Cheren nodded to Caleb before following behind her. "Looks like it's you and me, Stephen," Caleb said before tossing his companion's Pokeball into the air. The Snivy stood beside him and grunted. "Come on, let's find a friend."

"Look, the grass is rustling." Caleb pointed at a patch of grass that clearly showed movement inside. Before a command could be called out, Stephen leaped into the grass and began to battle with the opponent. "Stephen, you have to wait for my orders!" After a short jog over to the battle scene, Caleb overlooked his Snivy as it battled with a Patrat. "Alright, let's catch him!" A Pokeball was tossed, and after a few moments of it wiggling around the Pokeball let out a sound signaling that the Patrat had been captured. "Welcome to the team, Rick."

By the end of the route, Caleb was reunited with his friends. "How many do you have Caleb?" Bianca asked.
"Uh, two."
"Two? Ha, you're a loser! Oh wait... we all have two..."
Why am I friends with this girl...?

Chapter 3:
"Everybody release your Pokemon!"
"Release?"
"Why?"
"The Pokemon must be liberated!"

Caleb walked out of the Pokemon Center, his two Pokemon freshly healed, and noticed a crowd of people gathering around a hill on the west side of the city. Atop the hill was a man dressed in a cloak who was addressing all of the people. "Cheren, what's this guy talking about?"
"He wants everybody to let their Pokemon free. Something about they need to be liberated or something."
Caleb payed little attention to speech the man was giving. He was too busy being preoccupied by another person who was eyeing him down. Through the crowd, a person about his age with green hair was staring in his direction. "Cheren, some guy is staring at me."
"Weird. I wonder why."

When the crowd of people began to disperse the person walked up to Caleb and Cheren. "Hello. Hmm..."
"Uh.. can I help you?"
"Your Pokemon," the man said while pointing at Stephen. "It... likes you."
"Is there something wrong with that?"
"No, no. Not at all. I'm just... surprised. Would you mind if I battle you?"

The man sent out a Purrloin and Caleb chose Stephen. The Purrloin had the upper hand when it came to speed, but a few strong Vine Whips knocked out the adversary. "And it's strong too... Hmm..."
"Yeah..."
"My name is N. Take care of your Pokemon. I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to it."
"Okay...?"
With that N took his leave, and Caleb and Cheren looked at each other, both trying to figure out what had just happened.

Chapter 4:
"Caleb, oh Caleb!"
"Mom?"
"Hunnie, I couldn't let you leave without these." His mom handed over a pair of shoes and Caleb quickly swapped them out for the pair he was wearing. "Thanks Mom...?"

Walking out into the grass, Caleb began to look for a new member for his team. There had to be something somewhere. A Patrat ambushed him, and Stephen quickly subdued the Pokemon into the range where it could be captured. "Gotcha. I didn't really want another Patrat, but... welcome, Harold."

"Caleb, what a surprise seeing you here."
"Bianca, hey."
"Surprise! Let's battle!"
Bianca started off with her Lillipup, and Caleb sent out his trusted partner Stephen. "Vine Whip." A harsh slap from the vines hit the dog critically, taking it down in one hit. Next came Oshawott who shared a similar fate.
"Oh man... you're so strong, Caleb. Did you know there's a gym leader in this town?"
"Gym leader?"
"Yeah, they test and see how strong you are. But they're really hard. You should battle them."
"Them?"

Caleb entered the town slightly confused from Bianca's remark. Battle them? Did that mean he had to battle more than one gym leader? He walked up to a cafe with a large Pokeball sign on it. This appeared to be the place to go for a gym battle. "Oh, are you here to challenge the gym?" asked an elderly man. "I'm sorry, but no challengers are allowed during the lunch hour. Maybe stop by the trainer school and pick up on some tips?"

With his idea of challenging the gym turned down, Caleb went to the trainer school in hopes of learning something new.
"Caleb, fancy seeing you here."
"Oh, Cheren, hey."
"Want to battle? I want to try out a new technique."
"Sure."

Cheren started off with Tepig, and Caleb sent out Stephen. The match up was unfavorable, but Caleb had faith in his Pokemon. The Pokemon spent the first two turns trading Tail Whips and Leers, then Stephen took down the Tepig with a Tackle. Next came out a Purrloin, the new addition to Cheren's team. Caleb knew Stephen couldn't take a Scratch from the cat, so he switched out to Harold.
"Afraid, huh?"
"No, I just have faith in my other Pokemon."
Harold started with a strong tackle to the cat, and the Purrloin hit back with a scratch. The scratch hurt, but Caleb knew in a couple of tackles the Purrloin would faint.
"Assist."
"Assist?"
Purrloin held out a paw, and from the paw a spray of fire shot out. The Ember attack engulfed Harold, causing him to fall in battle. Stephen came out and cleaned up with a Vine Whip.

"Good work, Caleb. Here, take these berries. Oh, you should probably take your Pokemon the Pokemon Center."

"I'm afraid your Patrat has passed away."
"What do you mean? He just fainted. You can heal him!"
"Young man... Your Pokemon has passed away. I can't heal what has died."
"But... how...?"
"I'm sorry for your loss..."

If you feel a bit overleveled and don't want to fight a few Trainers, then don't fight them. If you're a bit underleveled and need to grind a bit, then grind a little. Remember, losing one Pokemon can be catastrophic so proceed with caution.

Alright well here goes...

Sup. Been 10 for at least 5 weeks now. Just finished Year 5 and the holidays are upon me, but I'm dead bored. Always works out like that doesn't it, can't wait for school to finish for the summer then as soon as it does there's nothing to do apart from taunt siblings and read Harry Potter for the fifth time. But I knew today was gonna be fun. Today was the day I got... a Pokemon...

'SUP, WHATS YOUR NAME.'
*bleary eyed* 'Wha...'
'YOUR NAME. WHAT IS IT.'
'...NuzLork..' (Nickname is Lork, NuzLork, geddit)
'GREAT. I'M PROFESSRO JUNIPER AND I'VE KNOWN YOU FOR YEARS'
'...'
'ARE YOU A BOY OR A GIRL'
Knew I should stop wearing make up to bed. 'I'm a fella.'
'THATS FANTASTIC. LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO YOUR TWO BEST FRIENDS.'
'They're not my friends...'
'THEY ARE AND YOU'VE KNOWN THEM THE BEST PART OF A DECADE. THE DUDE'S CALLED CHEREN AND THE CHICK'S CALLED BIANCA'
'Okay...'
'I'LL BE SENDING ROUND A LARGE PACKAGE WITH THREE UNIQUE POKEMON IN TO BE FOUND NOWHERE ELSE BECAUSE TRUSTING THREE TEN YEAR OLDS WITH SUCH POKEMON IS A FLAWLESS PLAN. HAVE FUN'
'Right.'
'TARAAA'

That was strange.

Anyway that was a few days back and the package came today. Cheren and Bianca came storming into my house as soon as they heard the news (...I don't know who they are, this is wierd. How do they know the name of my first hamster?). Bianca, the divvy one, was like a kid before christmas and had to be physically restrained by Cheren, who seems like a stuck up obnoxious bellend, from tearing apart the package itself in excitement. Not before she knocked over a vase though. Anyway they decided that for some arbitrary reason I should get first pick which is fair enough. Spoilt for choice between a fire pig, a plushie and Smugleaf I opted for the firey pig. I figured that worst comes to worst I can stick him on a barbeque. Bianca had the next choice and went for Smugleaf, leaving Cheren looking at the last pokeball with disdain. His '...I wanted Oshawott anyway' could not have been said with more bitterness and contempt.

Tepig's a bit of a boring name so after a few seconds I came up with Zem-
'NO NuzLork!'
'What Bianca?'
'You CANNOT nickname this Tepig. Yet.'
'Why not?'
'You don't have the OPTION'
'But I really want to...'
'Tough. Hey you wanna battle with little monsters in your bedroom?'

And so commenced my first battle. It was a bit pathetic really, watching two little critters repeatedly jump into each other but still rather exhilerating somehow; any attack could have been my last and my Tepig was brave in battle, aware that his lower speed made him more susceptible to being hit but throwing himself into the fray despite it. The lil guy showed guts. Fortunately Smugleaf decided that staring me down was the way to go anyway so after a rather one sided battle it was time to survey the damage.

'Fools. You messed up your bedreem NuzLork, and for what. Cheap thrills?'

Condescending twat.

'Let's battle anyway.'

...I really, really dont like him. Hope my face betrayed the words of comfort I offered after the two hit KO on his Oshawott. Even still, this was fun, the day I'd been looking forward to for as tlong as I can remember, the beginning of my journey, and what a journey it'd turn out to be...

I've got a question about the rules. I'm doing a Nuzlocke on my Black, and I'm about to go to the Dreamyard. My question is: can I catch a Pokémon and get my Pansage?

i just started my first nuzlocke on pokemon gold i have done ok so far i have captured a shocker the flaffy, Gannon the oddish, jaws the crokanaw, 3 pidgeys, 2 rattatas, and 2 zubats. my casualties so far are 2 pidgys 2 rattatas and a zubat.
