If you go to a casino and gamble it doesn't mean you can't be against companies that profit from and contribute to poverty like companies that aggressively target poor people for high-interest loans. I see no hypocrisy on Cisse's part, he just handled his objection badly.

I think you're missing the point. His objection to wearing the sponsor was because the company's activites go against Sharia law, and gambling also goes against it.

It's hypocrisy because he refused to wear the kit on religious grounds yet he broke one of the most basic Sharia laws by gambling in a casino.

edit: fuck you triangles

It's not different in my mind from a Jew who works on the Sabbath, but keeps Kosher or whatever. People are going to hold certain parts of their religion as more important than other parts. His objection is very good and the gambling ordeal was a way to minimize it without confronting it.

Yes but you forgot the part that he's criticizing the club for not respecting his religion but he's not respecting his religion by breaking one of the laws anyways. It's almost like condemning someone for being a murderer but you're a rapist.

the only concrete quote from an agent only mentioned something about his beliefs; not necessarily his muslim beliefs. thought that was worth clarifying. it is fairly common knowledge around le toon that the players do gamble, and i believe many of them are regulars to that casion in particular. demba ba also posted a picture of him and ben arfa (both devout muslims) gambling on twitter and no eyebrows were raised then. gambling as a muslim is comparable to a christian having pre-marital sex in my opinion..

i think cisse has handled this poorly and i can't believe it had anything to do with religious beliefs. there are a few more muslim players at the club (tiote, ben arfa, sissoko, abeid etc) and none of them batted an eye at the wonga dealing. i think he was trying to engineer a move or a payrise more than anything.. maybe he's eyeing up one of those big russian clubs. regardless its going to be annoying watching him and gomis, or even worse darren bent, thrown into some terrible 4-4-2 formation by pardew next season. seriously, just picture a 4-4-2 with cisse and bent and gutierrez on the wing and pity me.

also shola ameobi three goals in three games

Christian Benitez just died at the age of 27 due to a heart attack. Terrible news, he was a great goalscorer who led my favorite mexican team to glory and scored a shitton of goals in so little time. He was even linked with a move to the premier league.

RIP Chucho

Another boring transfer window for Arsenal.

Soooo many rumors, but just nothing is happening. Getting desperate, as well as focusing only on 1 player.

Only with us..

Terrible news indeed, a great striker and a great player. It's a huge loss for an Ecuador team that looks to be on their way to Brazil next summer.

He actually did play in the Premier League on loan at Birmingham during the 2009-10 season. Tragic news.

Napoli's away kit 0___0 wat

I think it's a nice idea to do something different but honestly it will look like puke on the pitch.

Also I have a theory about Wenger's transfer ideas this summer. I think he will not budge on Suarez because he thinks RM will sign Bale and have no money left for Suarez, or they will go for Ibra; plus he doesn't need Suarez anytime soon cos he's banned for 6 matches anyway so makes no difference if he comes on deadline day or earlier. And also on the defender front he has seen Sagna do well at CB and he's been blooding Miquel into the first team for about 3 years now so yeah I think he's gonna play hardball with a new defender too cos he thinks he has backup to survive the first couple of matches. I have a sneaking suspicion he thinks Diaby will finally come back from the dead Jesus-style and he has Frimpong so he won't sign Fellaini. And I think he really rates Fabianski so he isn't gonna pay Cesar anywhere near 90k. All this points to absolutely no transfer activity for the rest of the summer until deadline day when he will try to hardball his way to a 40mil Suarez deal and maybe sign a defender. The only transfer that is somewhat credible between now and then is probably a replacement for Gervinho (ie maybe Bernard whoever he is). So yeah Arsenal fans I wouldn't expect any activity at all so don't even bother with the transfer news until deadline day and even then who knows if the hardball tactics have worked!

its so we can camouflage with the grass for sneaky counter attacks its fucking horrible

(ie maybe Bernard whoever he is)
Whoever signs Bernard will be getting one hell of a player. I watched him in Libertadores and some brazilian league games and the guy is incredible and has such workrates its amazing. His speed reminds me of messi's, his dribbling of lucas's and his workrates of cavani's. Id go ahead and say hes better than Lucas, so if Arsenal signs him be VERY happy. Seems like hes gonna go to Porto for like 20m tho and then Porto will sell him in a year for 50m like they always do. Fckin Porto

Well in that case I hope Arsenal are looking seriously at Bernard, but we have so many wingers now and several players who can play in the hole that I don't think we need another one. When Gervinho goes, Ox will step up (I think this will be the season Wenger uses him as a proper first choice) and Wilshere and Rosicky are back so Caz will probably play more on the wing and Gnabry will ease in to be a squad player. The priority has to be a striker and a CB, a DM and goalie would be a nice luxury too!

Also yeah gotta feel for Stuart Holden, I remember when Bolton signed him to much anticipation and he's never really played for them! And RIP Christian Benitez too.

Bernard is off to Shakhtar or Porto.

Huge news for Cardiff: Caulker signs from Tottenham! If Mackay can get Capoue too then that is the start of a decent looking spine for the PL. They signed a big man upfront (Cornelius, what a name!) and big men usually take less time to settle than poachers in the PL so Cardiff might have a chance to survive in the PL if all goes to plan. I still think they're one of the favourites to go down, if not the outright favourite, but it will be a fun ride whatever happens. I would've got a shirt too if it didn't look so hideous!

I feel like sometimes these preseason tournaments can be very draining on players lol. Milan, for example, played a match against Valencia in Spain on the 27th for the ICC, then played Man City today in Germany and will play Sao Paulo tomorrow in Germany, then will go back to the United States to play another team for the ICC again on the 4th, followed by another ICC game on the 7th. I know these are professionals and not all first team guys are playing, but it's still lulzy to me.

Yeah all these big clubs want to increase their fanbase and do these huge tours but it must take it out of the players. I felt bad for Chelsea's players cos they were just around Asia which they must be knackered from and now they're off to the States lol! Imagine having to do that and have the cameras all on you and you have to appear all enthusiastic and do autographs for the fans cos it's a rare visit and it's nonstop for a whole month. I think one tour is enough and then it's probably best to get everyone's heads down and really focus on training in ur own ground for a few weeks and build up to the season in a really settled way. Man City are looking quite decent btw and they have a massive squad again!

Yeah I actually see City winning the league if Pellegrini is as good as he seems to be. Hard to predict him winning the league in his first season, but he has the best squad by far imo.

Posting to say it's our first European match (for 21 years I believe) tonight! Indescribably excited :D
