Just read this on Digital Spy (UK VGC related)

I didn't attend the event myself, but I'm closely related to the people involved.

Here's the actual version of it. One of the spanish players decided to take a crap at his own room. Quickly the rest of the players told him that that was disgusting and that he should get rid of it inmediately.

He moved it to the corridor (obviously not the brightest of the ideas) wraped on toilet paper. Staff was reported and they called the police. Everyone on that room was kicked out the hotel and fined.

So there were no drugs, no alcohol nor any poo-fight as it's been told. Just one "not funny at all" prank that went wrong.

You know shit just got real when Ruben is involved

Or is it " You know Ruben just got real when shit is involved."
Hmm, I can't remember

In all seriousness though, let's leave Ruben and the Spanish alone.
I love you Ruben <3

why can't we just have legit thread in vgc rather than stupid people making stupid comments itt
because the situation is stupid and only stupid comments can really be made for it aside from repeating how stupid it is.

Everyone should bring Oh Henry bars wrapped in toilet paper to the vgc's now, every time you face a spanish person, open it up and eat it.

Well......Because an spaniard made mischief, does not mean mean that the rest of Spain be like him. Spain is a country with crazy people, and exemplary people. Do not generate. _.

"So, for those of you who couldn’t make it through the wall of text, Ruben got disqualified because someone exaggerated what was a relatively minor incident and that spread across the internet, there’s still a worrying amount of intolerant and possibly racist people in the community and the future of our VGCs hangs in the balance. Watch this space. Next year, if Europe gets skipped, or they bring in new rules stating only UK citizens can compete or any other daft new rules come in, you know why. Direct your fire towards Pokerob and his terrible website, they got us into this mess."

As for the reason behind Ruben's disqualification, the Pokemon Company International released this statement:

"The Pokemon Company International expects its players to maintain high standards of behaviour conducive to the family-friendly environment that we foster.

"The Pokemon Company International conducts full investigations into any matters where we believe that a player has failed to maintain these standards, and take appropriate action when necessary.

"In this case, we have found that unacceptable behaviour did take place, and have taken the appropriate steps in response."

honestly this sounds like it would be a step forward

didn't they tighten regulations in the us iterations similarly?

it doesn't seem particularly fair that europeans can hop into other nation's vgcs for a second chance when they have one of their own

edit: author of the pastebin makes some nice baseless judgements though!!:

If you have a problem with someone from another country winning, then you have a problem with people from other countries full stop. Either learn to tolerate it or up your game and beat him yourself, then you’ll have the right to say he shouldn’t have won.

im not entirely sure tbh with you. do they not allow people to partake in multiple regionals in america?

i think they used to but changed it?

anyway nevermind the author of the pastebin is an asshole outright:

Reading through Smogon’s thread about the event, I saw a lot of abuse towards Ruben, some for his supposed “arrogance”, since he likes to make a huge deal out of everything and dances around when it looks like the battle’s won, and some outright racist remarks suggesting the Spanish players “go win their own VGC because this is ours!” Grow the fuck up, people. Arrogance and celebration are not the same thing, if he was truly arrogant he’d be trash-talking all his opponents before the match, and anyway, unlike most of the players there, he has the skills to back it up.

The last thing we want is for european players to be banned from our events purely because our UK players are too shitty to win their own tournament. If they can't win their own tournament then why do they deserve to win a trip to worlds? Fuck shitty players, I would rather have Ruben as UK champ every year than some lucky brit who is going to go 0-6 in Worlds Swiss.

Is there a reason why this thread is still open when elsewhere on the website we've locked all threads discussing it?

Hey Az, I love your badgeset :D

well my argument isn't that the uk players deserve a handicap, more that tournament eligibility shouldn't be determined by who has enough money to run around europe

i don't see a reason to lock this thread, but perhaps the threads are locked elsewhere and here because this is a discussion forum. idk, i can't speak for the other forums. treat this as a news report; we wouldn't lock a thread for having an op referencing a biased news story, we'd discuss that and shed light on it

also man the feeling is mutual, goddamn that badgeset is sexy!!

having read a substantial amount of information about this controversy for some reason, i think more information needs to be disclosed in terms of culpability: whether or not ruben's testimony is to be considered true (as i believe) there is still the question of what, exactly, happened. pokechamp21 said there was a "poo fight" but his use of tenses implies to me that he wasn't there to actually see shit (hahahaha!!!!!) going down. it makes a big difference in my opinion if it was the entire spanish team misbehaving vs the actions of one drunk guy, and as ruben said, he and perhaps others were not into the "hallway plan" at all and tried to convince that one delinquent team member otherwise. it's frustrating that kotaku + a multitude of other articles are blowing this incident completely out of proportion by describing the event as

a veritable drunken orgy of fecal fighting,
and obviously using the event to further discredit TPCi and spanish players in general. i think there is a difference between placing a neatly wrapped piece of poop in the hallway vs. literally having a shit fight, and i honestly cannot see the latter happening -- who the heck, even after multiple drinks, handles and throws pieces of human feces with their own hands (especially considering ruben probably knew he would get DQ'ed if he was caught for something THAT bad)? it doesn't seem to add up and that's why i buy the "neatly wrapped" idea. it's also a strange thing to say but was this really such a big deal? grosser things have happened in hotels. it's just a turd for goodness sake.

that being said, i think TPCi was right to withold ruben from worlds (which is obviously a far more drastic punishment than he deserves) not because he doesn't deserve to go but because they basically had to cover their ass to make sure no more shit came out. disproportionate retribution but what can you do. in summation, i think the thing that is sincerely lacking from this scandal is an honest description of events so culpability can be established (preferably from someone who can speak english / is over 12 / was actually there or saw the poop itself). that's my 2 cents on this topic that i have nothing to do with

I'm great. Ok so it's ONM and they're a terrible outlet like Kotaku so they didn't source it but it's ok.

You must be psychic :L

In all seriousness, as much as I want ruben to be allowed to continue partaking in pokemon events, which oddly enough he has been banned from, I cant help but think that he only has himself to blame, regardless of if he actually committed the act or if he was only standing up for a friend.
It's a big shame he's been disqualified though. Hopefully Ruben and TPCi can sort something out.

it's not that they restrict players in the US from going to different states for regionals - just that if you compete in one regional, it locks your trainer ID or something and you're unable to register in another regional. WHICH would be a great rule for europe too.
