Brandon hovered over the Mesa Verde on the back of his Braviary, Skystrike. While Skystrike used his powerful wings to beat back the sandstorm that continued to pester them, Brandon eyed the two trainers below preparing for a match. "Should be interesting, both of them get an advantage from the sand," he thought to himself. "Hopefully they'll finish quickly though so I don't need to keep Skystrike out in this any longer than I need to!"

In the dusty deserts of the US Southwest, a strange and mystical cliff dwelling hides, carved out of the edge of a cliff. Though a major tourism spot, Leethoof has commandeered it for use of a ROCK GYM ARENA. The desert environment provides no external water, though pokemon may use their internal water sources to fill some of the kivas (underground churches basically) for use of Surf and Muddy water if they desire so. As the area is a frail overhang, any seismic activity will shake the roof a lot, causing a Rank 3 STAB Rock throw to crush all pokemon (though rock-types expect and take half damage), though it will never fully do so. In addition, the Southwest has a very fickle and dry climate (and maybe a tyranitar hiding offstage), so a Sandstorm will renew itself every other round, starting from the beggining of the battle.

Summary: No external water, semi-permenant sandstorm renews itself at the start of every other round, seismic attacks cause STAB Rank 3 Rock Throw to hit all pokemon (half-damage to rock-types)

The two trainers released their Pokemon. For IAR, it was his Gliscor, Capers, who blended into the sandstorm with his Sand Veil! On Leethoof's side soon stood a Sudowoodo, Bonzai, floating over the ground with his Air Balloon! Capers wasted no time, starting the match strong by smacking into Bonzai with a Aqua Tail! Bonzai, realizing that Aqua Tail could be a useful move to have against a Gliscor, used Mimic to learn the move himself! Not bothered, Capers continued the offensive with a Brick Break, but this time Bonzai retaliated with an Aqua Tail! The two then clashed again, meeting each other with Aqua Tail attacks, but Capers scored a critical hit, sending Bonzai crashing to the ground, his Air Balloon popped! "Tough start to a tough matchup for Bonzai, I wonder if he can recover?" Brandon mused as the Pokemon prepared for the next round.

Leethoof, deciding that his current matchup wasn't a good situation for him, called for a switch, recalling Bonzai and sending out Jet the Aerodactyl in his place! IAR decided not to switch, so Leethoof lead off, ordering a Reflect from Jet. The psychic shield enveloped Jet, but it didn't last long as it was quickly shattered by a Brick Break from Capers! Then, sensing trouble, Capers threw up a Protect! Jet threw out a Supersonic attack, but the protective shield blocked it! Trying a different tactic, Jet shielded himself with a Substitute, siphoning 20 HP into the doll! Capers looked to finish the doll off quickly, but in his haste missed it entirely!
