Battle in the Mt. Moon Springs! Terrador14 vs. Temperantia! [WON BY TEMPERANTIA]

Status
Not open for further replies.
Brandon climed Mt. Moon and arrived at the springs, his newest Pokemon, Flamestrike, following close behind. Seeing another trainer, the Magby went to leap into action, but Brandon held him back. “Calm down, we’re not here to battle. We’re here to ref. You’ll get your chance to fight soon.” The trainer that got there first, Terrador, waited anxiously for his opponent in his first ever ASB battle. Before long, his opponents, Laharl and Lenneth, showed up. Though they were experienced battlers, they had agreed to use newer, less experienced Pokemon to make it a fair fight. As both trainers prepared for battle, Brandon decided now was a good time to go over the rules.

Brandon also quickly surveyed the arena, looking for important attributes that could play a factor in the upcoming match.
Terrador14 said:
Arena: Mt. Moon Springs
This area is on the outside of Mt. Moon's face, close to the peak (but not close enough to deprive anything of oxygen). It is open to the sky, and is inside the crater left by the ancient Meteorite. that can be broken to yield loose rocks. Inside there is a ring of spires surrounding the ring itself; they are small and easily broken with any striking move and completely blasted away with a powerful Special move; either situation yields loose rocks around the arena. The spring in the center is approxiamately 25 ft. across and circular in shape, but not particularly deep. A fountain rises from the center. The area around the spires is spacious and covered with lush grasses.

Finally, Brandon looked at a sheet of paper he had. On it was the teams that the trainers would be using for the match. The siblings made good on their promise; it was a fairly even matchup strength-wise.

Seeing that both trainers were ready, Brandon decided to get things started. "Alright guys. Lenneth, Laharl, I'm sure you guys know how this works but for Terrador's sake I'm going to explain anyway. Terrador was the match seeker, so he sends out his Pokemon first. Lenneth and Laharl, as the challengers, will then send out their Pokemon and give it its orders. Then Terrador will give his Pokemon its orders. Finally I'll figure out what the hell happened and give you guys an update, then Terrador will order and the cycle will repeat with you guys alternating who orders first. So without further ado, let's get going!"

Terrador, you're up!

Lenneth and Laharl climb up to the spring on Mt. Moon. Although, Lenneth with a bit more vigor and quite a bit faster...

"Oh, Laharl, look at the cute, little Pokemon! Hehe, and look at the equally adorable little newbie. Hi, scrubby!"
"Remember, we're here to battle, try to take this a little more seriously."
"Whatever, spoil-sport. I'm gonna start, then. Iseria, go!"

The female Combee looks at its opponent, surveys the surrounding, then gets ready for its owner's commands, all while keeping up the blank, cheerful facade it is known for.

"Iseria, Gust the Mienfoo, follow with a blinding Mud Slap. Finally, Gust again. Ohoho, you have no idea what you are getting youself into!"

P.S. Lenneth's theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_J85...eature=related

Terrador considered the possible threat that the Combee posed, then gave his instructions to Shao.

"All right, Shao! Show them what we're made of! Open with a Fake Out, follow it with a Swords Dance, then finish the round with a devastating Acrobat!"

Shao nodded and took his stance, ready to spring into action...

Brandon watched as the two trainers released their Pokemon and issued their actions. Terrador lead off with his Mienfoo, named Shao, while after a bit of bickering between themselves Lenneth and Laharl sent out Iseria, their Combee, with Lenneth in charge for now.

Brandon watched as the Pokemon got ready to fight. "Hmm, let's see what they do Fl-" Before he could finish Shao was already off, striking Iseria at blinding speed with a Fake Out! "Wow, that was fast!" Brandon exclaimed. It was so fast that the poor Combee flinched and missed its action!

Lenneth and Laharl scowled, but Iseria had already recovered and whipped up a Mud-Slap, hitting Shao right in the eyes! Shao ignored the blinding effect, however, and instead went for a Swords Dance, doing a spinning dance to raise its attack. Flamestrike looked on inquisitively, and Brandon laughed as his Magby tried to understand why Shao wouldn't counterattack. "Don't worry buddy, you'll understand eventually," he told Flamestrike, patting its head.

Meanwhile, Iseria and Shao were still fighting on the field. Iseria started flapping her little wings, and quickly conjured a Gust attack that sent the Mienfoo flying. However, Shao would not be deterred, and used an impressive display of Acrobatics to get him back to Iseria, striking her for a great deal of damage in the process. "Hmm, Iseria definitely looks worse for wear, but Shao used up quite a bit of energy to complete his actions. Who do you think is going to win Flamestrike?" he asked his Magby, only to find he had wandered off to chase a Clefairy. Brandon sighed. He was on his own. He called out to the trainers, "Alright guys, here's how things look so far!"

"Iseria's fallen behind early, but Lenneth and Laharl are veterans, so I'm sure they can figure out a way to even the odds," Brandon thought to himself as Flamestrike slouched back, two suspicious triangular marks on his face. Brandon laughed. "Maybe that Doubleslap will teach you not to mess with Clefairy anymore," he told the Magby. Now talking to the competitors, he said, "OK, Terrador gives actions first this time! Let's go!"

Terrador, you're up!

Feel free to double-check if anything is wrong or weird, and comments and criticism (as long as it's constructive) are also appreciated.

Terrador assessed the situation carefully. Shao had taken a decent chunk of damage and used a notable amount of energy, but neither worried him too much. The +2 Atk from Swords Dance was also promising, but he didn't expect to be outran by a mere bumblebee. The most worrying issue at the moment was Shao's -1 Acc; Stone Edge would be even more difficult to rely on. Regardless, Terrador knew that pressing the offensive would be the best choice at the moment.

"You're doing great, Shao! Use another Acrobatics to put some more damage on that Combee, then Swords Dance once more so you'll be in shape to KO with your next Acrobatics!"

Shao settled into an offensive stance, ready for the impending strike on the nearby Combee.

"Miennnn.... FOO!"

"Such a bold attacker, you are! Perhaps I underestimated you? Hehe, no matter, Iseria is stronger than you think. Iseria, Tailwind to dodge that incoming Acrobatic display rhe speed increase should increase your evasive prowess for the actiion. Next, Gust at Mienfoo, we can't let off our pressure. Brandon and Flamestrike watched as the trainers issued their actions. Suddenly, Iseria summoned a strong wind from out of nowhere, as Flamestrike grabbed Brandon's leg to avoid being blown away. "Haha, don't worry little buddy, it's just a Tailwind, it'll make Iseria faster." And sure enough, when Shao, already having trouble seeing thanks to the Mud-Slap from earlier, tried to hit Iseria with Acrobatics, she easily moved out of the way, and the move missed completely! As the Mienfoo sailed past her, Iseria used the advantage to hit with a Gust, and combined with Shao's momentum sent him flying into one of the spires surrounding the arena, shattering it! Flamestrike cringed at the impact, and Brandon thought to himself, "Wow, that was quite the critical hit." However, Shao got himself back up, and pulled off another Swords Dance despite the impact. Yet again the little Magby was perplexed at Shao's actions, so Brandon quickly explained how it worked to him while the fight continued.

Iseria didn't give Shao much of a break after the Gust, going right back after him and throwing more mud into his face with another Mud-Slap. However, she had to get close enough to do so that even with the extra mud Shao managed to find her, and before she could react he leaped off the ground and crashed right into her with a powerful Acrobatics! Terrador cheered as his Shao landed, while Lenneth and Laharl showed some concern as their Pokemon was starting to look really worn down. Seeing that the Pokemon were done for now, Brandon decided to check and see how they were doing.

"Shao is really powerful, Iseria's going to have to pull out some tricks to win this one," Brandon said. Flamestrike nodded in agreement as Brandon updated the trainers on the status of their Pokemon and asked them to give their orders.

Temperantia, you're up!

"Such a powerful little Pokemon! I'll be sure to make a note of that in the field guide..." Laharl mutters as he starts furiously scribbling in a notepad.

"That, I agree with you on, brother. Iseria, Gust to distance Mienfoo from you, then blow another Gust at it to push it even further back. Finish with Gust again, but if Shao uses either Acrobatics or Stone Edge, dodge with Tailwind instead.

Gust-> Gust-> Gust/ Evasive Tailwind

(Try to push Shao away with the wind attacks... Maybe making him use more energy?)

Terrador took a good look at the situation: Shao was losing HP and Energy at rather decent speed, but Lenneth and Laharl's Combee was barely within KO range for Stone Edge. Though he couldn't do anything about the worrying HP loss, he could ensure that the Combee fainted and do something about Shao's Energy crisis.

"Excellent work, Shao! You're doing great! I want you to use the remains of that spire to throw Stone Edges until the Combee is KO'd. Once it's gone down, use Swords Dance again to boost your Attack even further. Finally, I want you to Chill if you get both of the prior things done this round."

Long Story Short: Stone Edge => Stone Edge (if Iseria is alive)/Swords Dance => Stone Edge (if Iseria is alive)/Swords Dance (if not previously executed successfully this round)/Chill

Flamestrike tugged on Brandon's leg, who was in the middle of watching a Zubat fly around. Once he got Brandon's attention, he pointed towards the battlefield, where the Pokemon were getting ready for a third round of action. "Oh, thanks Flamestrike, I almost missed it!"

"Oh look, Iseria's summoning another Gust!" Brandon pointed out, but this time the little Combee concentrated on pushing Shao back, making it more difficult for him to get to her but doing less damage! However, Shao quickly grabbed a sharp rock from the rubble of his collision with the spire from last round, and with some extra energy managed to launch a Stone Edge despite the Gust! However, some mud was still in his eyes from previous rounds, and he missed Iseria! "Hmm, looks like he's trying again!" And sure enough, while Iseria continued to use Gust in an effort to keep the Mienfoo away, Shao somehow found the energy to launch a second Stone Edge! But yet again, he couldn't find his mark and missed! "If he keeps this up, he'll faint from exhaustion before he finishes off Iseria," Brandon thought to himself.

Iseria desperately continued to use Gust, desperate to keep Shao away from her. However, this time Shao took careful aim and his Stone Edge struck true, sending Iseria to the ground with his attack, KOed. Lenneth recalled Iseria while Terrador congratulated Shao on its KO, and Brandon decided to check how Shao was doing.

"Shao's been doing a lot of damage, but he looks absolutely exhausted. It looks like he could fall over at any time," Brandon said to Flamestrike as they looked on. "This is why you have to be careful not to use too much energy Flamestrike." The little Magby nodded as they waited for Lenneth and Laharl to send out their next Pokemon.

Temperantia, you're up! ...but first, I realized while reffing that in the last reffing that I said that Tailwind would be up for two more actions, when it should have been two more rounds. Since you only went for the Tailwind sub on the third action, I'm guessing you did so with the expectation that Tailwind would be up by then, which it obviously wasn't, so I changed the action to Gust since I'm assuming you would have gone for that had you known Tailwind was still going. If either of you have a problem with this get in touch with me and we can try to figure something out, but this seems to be the best way to deal with it right now :/ Sorry about the mistake.

EDIT: Also, a word of warning for Terrador; you aren't allowed to use moves after KOing a Pokemon. Warning you now before it screws you over another time :P

Terrador was elated by the KO of Combee, but he was worried about Shao. Three high-Energy attacks really took their toll on him, and he looked like he was about to collapse. However much he wanted that Tangela to take heavy damage, he had to tend to Shao first.

"Shao, you're doing great, but I need you to Chill for your first action. I know you want to keep fighting, but you can barely stand right now. However, once you've done that, use Acrobatics twice. We've got to put as much damage on that Tangela as we can!"

Shao, weary from battle and on the verge of collapsing, managed to pull himself into a defensive crouch. As soon as Laharl's Tangela was finished with its first attack, he would muster the energy for one last assault...

"Malboro, Bind Shao with your vines to hold it in place. Follow with a Sleep Powder that should have an accuracy boost due to Shao's binding. Finally, use Giga Drain."

Brandon and Flamestrike watched as Shao struggled to take his stance while Laharl took over for the siblings, sending out a Tangela named Marlboro!

Brandon waited for Shao to make the first move, but then he remembered that Iseria's Tailwind was still active! His speed boosted by the wind, Marlboro shot out a vine in an attempt to Bind Shao before Shao could move! But Shao refused to give in, and somehow mustered the energy to move out of the way, and the Bind just barely missed! However, Shao didn't go for a counterattack, instead choosing to chill and recover some desperately needed energy! At first, Brandon thought the Tangela wasn't going to attack either, but then Flamestrike pointed out some small spores in the air floating towards Shao, who was still trying to recover its energy. Unable to dodge again, Shao was hit by Marlboro's Sleep Powder and combined with its exhaustion fell into an intense sleep! As it slept through its action, Brandon thought to himself, "It might faint before it wakes up..."

Marlboro wasn't about to leave Shao alone, however, and hit him with a red beam of energy that then returned to Marlboro. The Giga Drain would have healed some of Marlboro's wounds, if he had any to begin with. And despite Terrador's desperate shouting, Shao continued to sleep. However, some good news came for Terrador's side as the Tailwind finally died down, leaving the battle field as it had been before. Brandon updated the trainers on the condition of their Pokemon while Flamestrike chased away a Zubat that was starting to get too close to the action.

"Looks like Marlboro will be able to finish Shao off, but the question is will he be able to do it while keeping himself healthy enough to take on Terrador's next Pokemon?" Brandon thought to himself. He turned to see Flamestrike being chased by a whole group of angry Zubat. Sighing, he withdrew the little Magby. "Sorry, but if you can't keep yourself out of trouble then I can't keep you out here," he told the Pokeball that now held Flamestrike. Looking up, he saw the trainers waiting for him. "Oh, sorry guys. Let's keep going!"

Temperantia, you're up!

"Great Job, Malboro, even with that miss. Let's finish him with a Solarbeam to work him down, followed by Sludge Bomb."

Solarbeam-> Sludge Bomb-> done

BTW, does that Giga Drain count as one of my heals? And can I specify whether I want it to heal or not?

(OoC: The move restriction for recovers generally only applies to dedicated recovery moves; unless Flamestrike minds, I won't get my panties tied into a wad.)

Terrador looked at his sleeping Shao, knowing that it wouldn't have much longer to fight. Knowing that, he prepared for one last full-out strike.

"All right, Shao! I know you'll be sleeping for your first action, but on your second action use Acrobatics. You may be down by the third round... but if you're still awake, launch another Acrobatics at the Tangela."

Shao slept peacefully in the grass, subconsciously taking in his Trainer's commands...

Nah, Giga Drain doesn't count as a healing move. I'll edit this with the reffing once I get it done (just got home)

Brandon sat at the edge of the arena, now with Shockstrike at his side. On the field, Shao continued to snooze while Marlboro took commands from his trainer.

As Shao continued to sleep, Marlboro prepared his next attack. Taking in large amounts of sunlight, he charged a massive SolarBeam! The attack struck Shao directly, waking him up, though he was hardly in any condition to fight. As Shockstrike winced at the impact, Shao mustered the energy for one final assault. Springing up from his feet with all his might, he launched an amazing display of Acrobatics! Unfortunately for Terrador and his Mienfoo, Marlboro took the blow with ease and responded with a Sludge Bomb, finally knocking out the little fighting-type. As Terrador recalled Shao and congratulated it for a great job, Brandon checked up on Marlboro to see how well it took that last attack.

"Hmm, I wonder what Terrador will send in next?" Brandon asked his Monohm, only to find Shockstrike napping beside him. "I'd be mad at you if you weren't so damm cute," he sighed. Turning to the trainers, he said, "OK, Terrador needs to send out his next Pokemon and give it its orders, then Lenneth and Laharl can go. Let's do it!"

Terrador, you're up!

Terrador viewed the opposing Tangela with distaste; he knew that neither of his remaining Pokemon were particularly strong against it. However, he knew that Caesar would be in a far worse situation than Celeste, so his decision was obvious.

"Go, Celeste! I choose you!"

Knowing that the opposing Tangela would be incredibly difficult to take down, he relied on Celeste's powerful Ice Beams to put a dent in the marijuana monster.

"All right, Celeste! Ice Beam like there's no tomorrow!"

No, no I didn't :p

Laharl looks on at the Staryu charging up its attacks...

"Tangela, we're gonna need to win this through some serious strategy. If you can, try this idea for a combo move: Vine Whip+Bind to turn around Celeste and hold it there, making it's following Ice Beams miss. Then, Giga Drain. If the combo doesn't work, use Sleep Powder, then Leech Seed."

Vine Whip+Bind= Turnabout Hold-> Giga Drain

if the combo isn't usable
Sleep Powder-> Leech Seed-> Giga Drain

Asked and the general consensus was that the combo wouldn't work, at least not for turning the Staryu around, so I'll take the sub command instead.
Brandon watched as Terrador sent in his next Pokemon, a Staryu named Celeste. It was at a type disadvantage, but then again so was his last Pokemon, a Larvitar, so he didn't have much choice.

As Shockstrike continued to nap beside him, Brandon watched as the Pokemon restarted the fight. Celeste moved first, nailing Marlboro with a powerful Ice Beam! Not to be deterred, Marlboro retaliated with another Sleep Powder, but this time Celeste was prepared and got out of the way, making the attack miss! Celeste wasted no time in following up, going for a second Ice Beam! This time, Marlboro decided on a different tactic, and shot out a Leech Seed! The little Staryu was unable to get out of the way this time, and small seeds sprouted all over her body! "That'll help Marlboro a lot," Brandon thought to himself.

Celeste fired off yet another Ice Beam but suddenly the seeds attached to her sucked energy away from her! Meanwhile Marlboro decided to change things up and go on the offensive himself with a Giga Drain! The red beam entered Celeste, draining it of energy, and then returned to Marlboro, healing it slightly! As Brandon looked on, the Pokemon rested while they waited for new orders, and Brandon quickly took the opportunity to check up on the Pokemon.

"Celeste did a lot of damage, but she used up a lot of damage to do it," Brandon mused. "Terrador had better be careful or she'll end up exhausted just like Shao did." He looked to his side, where Shockstrike was still snoozing. "You're boring, you know that?" he told the Monohm as he waited for the trainers to give their orders.

Temperantia, you're up!

Laharl, slightly disappointed at the last round, looks at his struggling Tangela and calculates his next actions.

"Tangela, Sleep Powder again. If it hits, Chill, then Giga Drain. If it doesn't (or fails) use it again, then Chill."

Sleep Powder-> Chill/Sleep Powder-> Giga Drain/Chill

PS I'd advise adding Leech Seed's effect to Celeste's status just to clarify things

Celeste may have been losing a bit of health, but Laharl's Tangela wasn't in great shape either. Terrador knew that he had to be careful with this situation, or Celeste would be sleeping and the Tangela would be regaining a lot of health.

"All right, Celeste! I want you to use a Hydro Pump to propel yourself as deep into the spring as you can go to evade the Tangela's first Sleep Powder. I want you to stay in the spring during the second action - stay away from that second Sleep Powder! Finally, I want you to use Ice Beam and put a dent in that thing!"
