Brandon stood in the reffing tower at the ASB Arena, waiting for the two battlers to arrive for their training match. Behind him, Aquastrike, his Dewott, was sharpening his shell. While they waited, Brandon double-checked the rules.

"Beginner's battle, so we'll be seeing some weaker Pokemon. Should be interesting!" Just then, the two trainers walked in. On one side was Blastoiseboy, fighting his first ever ASB match. On the other was Blazikenmaster-Zeo, no stranger to ASB. Brandon decided to check the teams to see what they could expect.

Type: Innate
The Pokemon's presense causes immense tension in the opponent, preventing them from eating a held Berry. Natural Gift may still be used.

Brandon advanced to the front of the reffing stand to address the Trainers. "OK, since Blastoiseboy is new to this, I'll explain how things work. Blastoiseboy, since you issued the challenge, you send your Pokemon out first. After that, BM-Zeo will send out his Pokemon and give it its orders, then you will give your orders. Once you've both ordered I'll update you guys on what happened, then Blastoiseboy will order. BM-Zeo will order after him, and I'll update you guys again, and we'll keep going like that, alternating the order for orders each round. So if you guys are ready, let's get started!"

blastoiseboy19, you're up!

Riolu, head out onto the field, lets show this guy a thing or two about battling! Lets Hi Jump Kick his Deino into next week! Follow it up with an Earthquake! End this all up with a Force Palm! Oh by the way Riolu if he decides that using Thunder wave is a good idea, Detect it and get out of the way!

Hi Jump Kick-Earthquake-Force Palm

IF he uses Thunder wave, use Detect

As Blastoiseboy walks up to the stadium, silent as a ninja, he knows he has the odds stacked against him. With no experience, he knows it is foolish to battle the prestigious Blazikenmaster-zero. But he's taken the safe route all his life. And, with nothing to loose, he figures this couldn't turn out to horribly. With a smirk, he commands his Deino to use a strong seismic attack harnessing the power of the earth. Next, he commands Puppet Master to focus his energy for the upcoming battle. He finishes by using the power of the earth once more.

Man. This situation sucks. Note to self: always be the challenger.

Earth Power ~ Focus Energy ~Earth Power

You don't necessarily have to be the one that accepts the challenge, just give your opponent arena choice. Whoever chooses arena sends out first. Anyway...

Blastoiseboy, confident despite his lack of experience, chose to send out his Deino, Puppet Master, first, while BM-Zeo responded with his Riolu, Casshen. Casshen, the faster of the two Pokemon, started off the round, striking the Deino hard with a Hi Jump Kick! Puppet Master responded, summoning energy from the earth to smack the Riolu with an Earth Power! This didn't phase Casshen, however, and he attacked again with a Ground attack of his own, Earthquake! Puppet Master weathered the blow, but chose not to retaliate, instead using Focus Energy to prepare himself for the next few actions! Unimpressed, Casshen jumped in again, striking Puppet Master with a Force Palm, and while he struck back with another Earth Power, it was clear that Puppet Master was worse off after that round. "Let's see if Blastoiseboy will try to save his Deino by switching it out or if he'll fight to end," Brandon mused as the Trainers prepared for the next round.

With each contact against his trusty Deino, Andrew grimaced. He realizes that Deino won't last for very long out there, so he decides to go out with a bang.
"Alright deino! Show me your true warrior spirit! Use Earth Power to lower his Special Defense! Then use Thunder Wave to paralyze it! Finish it up with one more Earth Power!"

Still faster, Casshen went back to his most powerful move, crashing into Puppet Master with a mighty Hi Jump Kick! Focused more than ever, Puppet Master responds with another Earth Power, but his focus doesn't result in anything special, just the usual damage. And to make matters worse, that last blow left him teetering! "Puppet Master can't take another one of those," Brandon said to Aquastrike, who nodded in agreement. Hoping to at least cripple Casshen before fainting, Puppet Master fired a Thunder Wave at the Riolu, hoping to paralyze it, but Casshen used her life energy to create a Substitute to block it! Safe from the paralysis, Casshen wasted no time, nailing a final Hi Jump Kick that knocked out Puppet Master. As Blastoiseboy recalled his Deino, Brandon thought to himself, "BM-Zeo drew first blood, and Riolu is in a pretty good position. Let's see how Blastoiseboy tries to even the score. At least he orders second this round!"

Taking the type advantage, Blastoiseboy sent out his Ralts, Musashi, but he was instantly greeted with a Shadow Claw from Casshen! So much for type advantage! Preparing for a tough fight, Musashi responded with a Calm Mind, boosting his Special Attack and Special Defense! Casshen, continuing the offense, struck hard with a Blaze Kick, and the fire burned Musashi! Activating his Synchronize, Musashi attempted to transfer a burn over to Casshen in retaliation, but the Substitute blocked it. Finally taking action to get rid of the Substitute, Musashi struck it hard with a Thunderbolt, but it stayed standing long enough for Casshen to strike with another Shadow Claw before Musashi finally broke it with a Confusion attack.

Even with both Pokemon showing the scars of battle, and Casshen also starting to tire, they continued to fight hard. Casshen struck hard again with a Shadow Claw, but Musashi decided to try a different tactic, launching a Confuse Ray at Casshen, intensely confusing him! Stumbling, Casshen quickly came back to his senses, striking down hard with a Blaze Kick, but this time Musashi retaliated with a Confusion! Still fighting the effects of the confusion, Casshen nonetheless managed to get off a Hi Jump Kick, leaving Musashi on the brink of fainting, and while Musashi responded with a Shadow Ball, leaving Casshen similarly weak, the pain from his burn was too much and he fell, knocked out! As Blastoiseboy recalled his second Pokemon, Brandon wondered how much more Casshen could do; not only was he barely able to stand, but he was also completely exhausted.
