[Overview]

When you look at Piloswine, the first things that'll stand out are its access to STAB Earthquake and decent Attack stat—these, and Piloswine's dual typing, which provides it with almost unresisted STAB. Piloswine's typing is a double-edged sword; on one hand, its offensive presence is amazing, but on the other, it leaves Piloswine vulnerable to common attacking types, such as Fire, Water, and Fighting. Thanks to its NFE status, Piloswine can utilize Eviolite to boost its defensive stats to respectable levels. Furthermore, Pilowsine's access to Stealth Rock combined with its decent bulk turns it into a decent tank. Piloswine is a poor man's Mamoswine—while decent, don't expect too much from it.

[SET]
name: Tank
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Ice Shard
move 3: Icicle Crash
move 4: Stealth Rock / Stone Edge
item: Eviolite / Life Orb
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def

[SET COMMENTS]

This set takes advantage of Piloswine's good offensive typing, STAB Earthquake, and access to Stealth Rock. The idea is to hit the opponent with its powerful attacks, set up Stealth Rock on a switch, and finish off weakened Pokemon with Ice Shard. Earthquake is Piloswine's most reliable STAB move, and combined with Icicle Crash, provides near-perfect type coverage. Ice Shard gives Piloswine a way to overcome its poor Speed, Icicle Crash deals more damage to slower Grass-types, such as Tangrowth, and Stealth Rock provides team support. If you already have a Pokemon with Stealth Rock, Stone Edge can be used to nail Fire-types on the switch, particularly Moltres, along with Bug- and Ice-types, notably KOing opposing Cryogonal with ease.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EVs and nature are self-explanatory; maximum Attack enables Piloswine to deal as much damage as possible, while maximum HP investment combined with Eviolite turn it into a defensive tank. 44 Speed EVs can be used to outrun neutral Omastar and Golurk, while 84 Speed EVs are enough to outrun Clefable. A more defensive spread can be used along with moves such as Roar, Reflect, and Light Screen, whilst a Choice Band can be used to form an offensive set. Superpower and Knock Off are DPP tutor moves, so they're illegal with Icicle Crash, but still usable. Finally, Toxic can cripple defensive behemoths such as Uxie and Dusknoir. Neither of Piloswine's abilities are of much use in RU, especially when there aren't any permanent hail inducers in the tier. Oblivious is rather useless due to the rarity of Attract, but it's more useful than Snow Cloak.

Piloswine lacks any form of recovery outside of Rest, making a Wish supporter an excellent addition to your team. Clefable can support Piloswine with Wish, switch into the majority of special attackers, and clear status with Heal Bell. Leafeon and Alomomola are less common options, but work just as well. Pokemon that can switch into Piloswine's weaknesses help it survive longer; Qwilfish can switch into most of Piloswine's weaknesses, soften physical blows with Intimidate, and set up Toxic Spikes. Slowking can also switch into Piloswine's weaknesses, support it with Trick Room, and rack up entry hazard damage with Dragon Tail. More offensive sets appreciate support from multiple entry hazards, making Crustle, Ferroseed, Scolipede, and Uxie ideal teammates to set them up.

[Other Options]

Curse can be used to raise Piloswine's Attack and Defense; Trick Room support is recommended due to Piloswine's common weaknesses and low Speed, but it's quite effective. Focus Sash, Stealth Rock, Endeavor, and Ice Shard can be used on an effective lead set, but it's a hit-or-miss strategy and largely prediction-based. Substitute can be used to shield Piloswine from status, but Piloswine's relatively low Speed makes it difficult to set up. Body Slam can be used for its higher paralysis rate, while Double-Edge has a higher Base Power, but also a high level of recoil.

[Checks and Counters]

Rotom-F and Cryogonal are immune to Earthquake, resist Ice-type moves, and have access to STAB Ice-type attacks to deal damage to Piloswine; however, the latter's low Defense won't keep it alive for very long, and both must watch out for the occasional Stone Edge. Moltres is immune to Earthquake and its STAB Fire-type moves will incinerate Piloswine's fur, but again, it must watch out for Stone Edge. Fighting-types such as Hitmonchan can take a hit and pummel Piloswine with their STAB moves. Cofagrigus, Dusknoir, and Spiritomb have a high Defense stat, they're only hit neutrally by Piloswine's STAB moves, and have Will-O-Wisp to cripple it. Uxie and Tangrowth do a decent job at walling Piloswine, but neither has great offensive presence. Finally, Water-types such as Feraligatr and Slowking can switch into Piloswine's attacks, outspeed it, and proceed to KO it with their STAB moves.

[Dream World]

Piloswine receives Thick Fat as its Dream World ability. Thick Fat is superior to Piloswine's other abilities, providing a resistance to Ice-type attacks, and removing its weakness to Fire-type attacks.

How about a Toxic and Substitute mention in the OO, especially since it has great bulk and can abuse Substitute with Snow Cloak

Added Toxic to AC of the first set, as it seems a cool option (piloswine destroys poison/steel types and struggles to break walls)

I'm not convinced by sub though, so I put it in OO.

I'm going to talk with the rest of QC about the lead set, since I'm not really sold on that yet, but the rest of this looks good.

The lead set is weird, sometimes it'll do a lot like get 3 KOes, and other times it'll do basically nothing. It's nice cuz it outspeeds a lot of weird stuff (Poliwrath and Lanturn were nice outspeeds from memory), and a lot of the stuff it doesn't takes a huge chunk from Ice Shard (Dugtrio, Accelgor, Honchkrow from memory). And Focus Sash + Endeavor is cool.

It sucks against priority leads and Taunt/sleep "leads," like Smeargle, Drapion, Hitmonchan, etc. In fact, Piloswine doesn't like basically any of the Rapid Spinners in RU, so I'd make a mention of that (he doesn't even like Cryo cuz of Levitate).

The Bulky Attacker is an easy approval though.

Thanks for the approvals.

Everybody seems to be on the fence about the lead set, including me. Someone on QC needs to come up with a definitive verdict (ie please don't just post QC 3/3).
