<p>Deoxys-D is found on many hyper and heavy offensive teams because of its great bulk and relative ease in setting up entry hazards. With Spikes and Stealth Rock on the field, many common Pokemon on offensive teams gain the ability to turn 3HKOs into 2HKOs and 2HKOs into OHKOs. The purpose of this set is to set up entry hazards as quickly as possible and then knock out any Pokemon that either tries to set up in front of Deoxys-D or use Rapid Spin to make Deoxys-D's work go to waste. With either Thunderbolt or Hidden Power Fire, the opposing Rapid Spin user is going to pay—that is certain. Thunderbolt takes care of opposing Starmie and Cloyster, while Hidden Power Fire does major damage to Forretress.</p>
<p>Psycho Boost works well in the last moveslot to cover the threats that are not covered by Deoxys-D's other attacking move. Additionally, it deals upwards of 75% to Tentacruel, so nearly all Rapid Spin users are kept in check by this virus. One should choose between Hidden Power Fire and Thunderbolt depending upon what a team needs; if a team requires a better check to common offensive Starmie that outpace a large portion of the metagame, Thunderbolt is a great option. Else, if Forretress walls many of the Dragon-type Pokemon on one's team, Hidden Power Fire can be used to great effect. Additionally, with a Fire Gem, Hidden Power Fire OHKOes Scizor, a common switch-in that Deoxys-D faces very often. One important thing to note is that the combination of Deoxys-D's high base Speed for a Spikes user and large amount of bulk make it a great candidate for a Spiker, as most others have bulk but no Speed or vice versa.</p>

<p>As far as the EV spread is concerned, Deoxys-D has maximum Special Attack to do as much damage to opposing Rapid Spin users as possible. The rest of the EVs allow Deoxys-D to retain some bulk, yet still outspeed Adamant Haxorus. However, one can opt for either a Bold nature to tank hits with more ease or a Modest nature to give Deoxys-D more power—it's all up to preference. Furthermore, one can change the EVs by giving Deoxys-D maximum Attack in the case of opting for a physical variant of this set. In that case, Fire Punch and Superpower are great alternatives for Deoxys-D's attacking moves, as Fire Punch still does plenty of damage to Forretress, while Superpower demolishes Tyranitar that do not expect a Fighting-type move.</p>
<p>Other specially-based alternatives to this set include running Ice Beam, as it surprises the common Gliscor and ensures that Dragon-types such as Dragonite and Salamence do not set up on Deoxys-D while it lays entry hazards. Taunt can be used over either Stealth Rock or Spikes, should another teammate already carry one of the two as moves. Mamoswine, because of Ice Shard, and Choice Scarf Landorus, because of Stone Edge, make great partners for this reason; they are offensive in nature and can demolish common threats to Deoxys-D. Choice Scarf Rotom-W is another good partner because it checks Dragonite and it also deals major damage to common Rapid Spin users, namely Starmie and Tentacruel.</p>
