1. I tended to play mostly towards the beginning of the test, with some bursts of play during various parts of the month. I’ve played against pretty much all common sets listed in the statistics of December and I haven’t really had too much trouble against her (save the odd Choice Trickster) and when using her I have found that with a mediocre base 80 HP (for a wall) makes her seem frail in the face of Tyranitar, Scizor, etc. and something like Cresselia has the ability to handle them better.
At the beginning of the test I found myself using Latias, but since it soon became obvious how easily she could be taken down I opted for more of an observer. I had trouble finding the right synergy for using Latias, as a number of other OU pokémon fulfill the role of special sweeper, Wisher, and wall better than Latias. However, I am sure with over time other strategies will pop up that will bring out more of Latias’ potential, but when we come back to if she is Uber or not…
2. Latias is lacking to qualify per my and Smogon’s definitions. I define Uber to be something that makes it basically impossible for many strategies to be used effectively. Defensively she does not wall out most of the metagame, as she is generally frail on the physical side (84.6% of Latias in December had no Defense EVs). Latias is pretty much outclassed by a number of OU special defensive walls that in my opinion can simply do the job better (Blissey, Cresselia, etc.). Not to mention she has to deal with Life Orbed/Choice Scarfed/Priority users/Trickers/etc. Her weaknesses are much easier to exploit in D/P as with new moves, the physical/special split, Choice Scarf, and hard hitting priority users (such as Scizor) make using her difficult.
It takes a lot of effort to use her offensively, as if you use the Life Orbed version you will most likely invest in more offense, making her frailer and taking 10% for every attacking turn. Without the Life Orb Latias takes a few turns to set up and well within that time the opposing team could easily set up something to take her out. It takes a lot of effort to try to sweep, stall, or set up other pokémon (using Wish is like asking to get smacked around and with SR switching back and forth becomes more difficult) with Latias. When I compare this to something like Garchomp, Palkia or Rayquaza, where you can see a certain set coming from a mile away, but are unable to defend against it without taking heavy damage to your team Latias does not seem to nearly do as much as them (without Soul Dew). I will probably read over some of my peer’s reasons to why they feel Latias is Uber or not in the voting thread before I cast my vote, even though I think I will be casting a vote for OU.
