Diplomacy Again Winter 1914 - Bass (France) wins!

A full player list will not be published until the conclusion of the game, and each player's identity will be revealed upon their elimination from the game.

Communication between countries and order submission will always be through PMing me here on the Smogon forums or on IRC. Communication may not include any Smogon usernames unless they're actual words you need to use or something, and don't try to hint to who you are etc. You may either send a PM directly to a Country (i.e. address it when you PM me) or make a Global message (which I will post here in the thread).

While you are still playing in the game (if you're playing, before you're eliminated) you may not discuss the game outside of this thread / outside of the PMs you send to me (addressed to others) using the communication system, and in this thread you may not identify yourself as any country. You can discuss the game with me if you want, though!

About The Game:

Diplomacy is game about making alliances, breaking alliances, and reforming old alliances to better your number of supply centers in the game. Playing the deaf mute will only get you so far before another country decides you are not worth the spaces you comprise of and crushes you for your land. You have to negotiate with other nations if you want to win. You must tell the whole truth and nothing but it while lying through your teeth to succeed in this game. Feelings will be hurt and grudges will be formed. Friends can be enemies, and enemies can be friends. Make your stab and pray it doesn't backfire.

A player is eliminated from the game when they no longer control any supply centers. Alternatively, a player can choose to forfeit (But that is lame and sissy and I will make sure you are made fun of for it!). This will leave his/her pieces on the board where they will hold or idle during every turn. Victory is achieved by a single player controlling 18 of the 34 supply centers OR if all of the remaining players agree to a tie. Diplomacy has 3 phases. Since this is online, you can talk to other nations any time you wish. The game begins in Spring of the year 1901 where you issue your first orders. After that turn is Fall 1901 and you issue your second round of orders. And finally the year ends in Winter 1901 where you either add or subtract to your total number of supply centers and in turn your army depending on how many you captured or lossed in Fall. Then the year begins anew with Spring 1902.

Even though this is a game of Diplomacy, you are never required to honor any promises you made to any nation. You are always out for yourself.

Rules
(these are not all the rules, please check the rulebook for further reading):
  • All units have the same strength
  • No two units may occupy the same space at the same time
  • An Army can be ordered to move into an adjacent inland or coastal province
  • A Fleet can be ordered to move to an adjacent water province or coastal province
  • Winter is a very short phase where players may only build or disband
  • You can only build in your Home Supply Centers
  • You cannot pass through Switzerland.
The following are not rules but are heavily discouraged

Questions and Answers

Q. Why the anonymous format?

A. Since everyone on Smogon mostly knows each other well for how they play, I decided that it would be a good idea to find out what happens when the players don't know who each other are. Hopefully it works out!

Ok, PMs have been sent out to everyone that was given a position.

Spring 1901

Germany: 3
Italy: 3

To make it fair on everyone, I will wait until I have received at least one message from each player (to be sent globally or to another player) before I begin to send your messages to each other. A player may elect not to send any messages, but you must PM me telling me this if you want to do this.

Good luck everyone, and sorry to those who didn't get in -- you might still be needed to sub in, so don't let anyone know!

From Italy: So I'm Italy, who wants to ally with me?

From France: Hey guys. It's me, France.

From Austria: I'm going to win

All messages have been sent! PM me if you want to send more messages.

I won't be setting a deadline yet, but if I don't have all orders in after a while I will set one.

Oh hey, I can post in here now!

Turkey, France you guys are either very sure of your neighbors or very dumb D:

Italy, going to Tyr? Honestly? Now you're moves are practically forced.

Germany, I guess you and Russia must be buddies because you can't bargain Sweden with him.

It looks like Russia and Austria are doing very normal moves though.

And also, I don't think there was anything really unusual about the French and Italian openings. They are obviously just trying to attack their enemies right off the bat.

While Austria's moves were the most "normal", he's arguably in a much worse position right now than the four countries you mentioned, Outlaw.

Really? Because unless France trusts England quite a bit, then he has to block him at Brest or risk losing it and not getting a second build. Italy has to forgo moving the Army to Tunis to protect Venice. No Turk is truly safe with a Russian fleet in the Black Sea. And Germany can't boss Russia around with the carrot that is Sweden.

Though I can see what you mean with Austria. The only true winners of this turn are Russia and England.

Russia was the only real 'winner' of the first turn. Yes, England did well, but a weak Germany and a very strong Russia means that England will be hard pressed to get more supply centers.

I am in agreement with LonelyNess in regards to Italy.

Hell, it's not just him. It looks like everyone seems to be content with handing Russia this game on a silver platter. Way to go, guys!

Early game often makes it seem as though Russia is overpowered, it can easily get up to 9 or 10 centers quickly. However, getting bigger than that is always a hassle.

What confuses me most is why England and Germany are attacking each other over France :/
