Smogon Shoddy Server Statistics - August 2010
If anyone had doubts about OU shaking up with Salamence gone, just look at the OU ladder stats this month! Heatran made a big jump up in percentage usage over Scizor, and has a commanding lead as the top-used pokemon in the metagame. On the other side, Blissey has dropped off the face of the earth, so to speak, by appearing at the 17th position this month. I haven't checked all the past stats threads, but that has to be the lowest Blissey ranking in OU in like.... forever? Oh, how the mighty have fallen...
Another interesting jump is Gengar, who makes a return to former usage glory at #3. For those of you that have been playing for a few years, you may remember that Gengar was consistently a top 3 pokemon in the usage stats, back when Garchomp reigned supreme in OU. But as soon as Garchomp was banished from OU, Gengar dropped to its common position of 5-10 in usage. For some reason, with Mence gone, Gengar has a resurgence in popularity. I'll leave it to all you stat pundits to explain that one to me in this thread. These stats were gathered from 613,207 individual battles that were fought during the month of August on the Smogon Shoddy Battle Server. This is wonderful. Thank you Doug, as always. I'm very happy to see Dragonite in the top 10, but ahead of Jirachi; that just blows me away. The gap between Heatran and Scizor has also grown by a lot. The gap between Rotom-A and Gyarados is just so close. Gengar making #3 doesn't surpise me either. Looks like Shaymin has finally made it into OU.

the stats seem to me like people are trying to adjust to the "new" metagame. i really though shaymin would be higher and goddamn machamp leads. im suprised umbreon and heracross and gallade and <bl mon> are as high as they are but whatever. noobs on the ladder i guess

Even though FWG cores are supposedly all the rage these days Grass types arent seeing very much usage. Especially Shaymin who I expected to be much higher. Still the top 10 is much to be expected and I think Flygon will be fighting for that top 10 spot for a good long time. Nice stats.

Gengar at no.3 was the biggest surprise this month. The sub-split set's probably helped it get that high since it's an amazing stallbreaker.

Less Blissey and Heatran number one? Incredible - you'd think more Heatrans would lead to more Blissey's.
Gengar is brilliant, and I've been using him a lot more this month. The sub-pain split set is just great. Top 5 UU's is pretty much expected. It's hard to go wrong with any of them. |

Wobba Wobba! Time for: Game of Choice: Lolcat's favorite, the UU Metagame!!! Milotic's queen and Venusaur's her wingman. Honestly, they're both great. I use both in my ~1400 rated UU team. Spiritomb usurps Mismagius as everyone's favorite undead, and I don't see why! Mismagius is better, dang it! SubNP people! Also, Registeel jumps up a spot or two! (two) Uxie and Ambipom are duking it out for Best UU Lead, and Ambipom has a slight lead. I happen to use Ambipom! Pom-Pom! What's with the drop in Rhyperior? It's a great hit-and-run poke, able to really hurt the opponent's Venusaur/Milotic and force them to heal the next turn, giving you a free switch! And it resists Stealth Rock! One of UU's biggest gainers is Clefable. This, I don't get. Clefable isn't GREAT in this metagame... It's solid, and can disrupt the opponent, but I think Magic Guard is a little overhyped. Also, Rotom gains just as much as Cleffy. Rotom is really good in UU, and deserves its spot. Alakazam gains as well. A little overrated, though. I'll try it again on my UU team this month, see what all the fuss is about. Time for the UU/NU Border Report! Last month I harped about Regirock and Slowking being doomed to NU. Let's see where they are today. Slowking-3.04 Regirock-2.80 Yep. Hey NUers! Get ready for the Immovable Sandstorm Tank! I also said that Pinsir was going to UU, guess not. Ehh, guess it was just hype? I said two big names in NU about to rise were Porygon2 and Ursaring. Now, I say only Ursaring. Porygon's under the 3% line and Ursaring's about at the 3.6 line. But today, a new candidate rises, and that is Exeggutor! With consistent stats above 4%, I see Exeggutor being a new name in UU! Good for you, go have some scrambled eggs with Chansey! Gyara at #4 is quite expected. Hera has a 2 number position jump lol.
Metagross at #9 i dont know why. Especially due to the so effective anti lead gross it would be higher. Nite at #8 is expected. Its actualy quite strong even without boost therefore able to bypass its speed by using extremespeed. Blissey is total surprising. Breelom is running rampant. And Gliscor have fallen. Kingdra is finally reach top #20. Yeah no mence = making him the owner of the arguably fastest most effective Draco Meteor user in the tier(flygon's meteor is weak, equivalent to Draco Mehteor compared to K-dra's meteor) |

I'm EXTREMELY surprised at Suicune only being #25. I swear its on every other team. Same with Shaymin. I mean Sucknoir is used more than it, seriously? Shaymin doesn't deserve that =/

Seeing Celebi at 23rd was a bit surprising for me. I see them all over the ladder, lol. Anyway, Heatran was to be expected, and I'm also surprised that Starmie isn't a top 10 lead. Another month, and I expect Flygon to hit the top ten. Gengar being so high is probably because of the FWG cores that are so popular, plus the occasional Rotom.

I literally did not see Umbreon a single time in over a hundred battles this past month. Snorlax, Mamo, and Weavile I saw once each. At the same time, I see Smeargle and Ninjask all the time.
Also I think the total Uber battles stat is a little off again. Kyogre has more battles than total Ubers battles, as was the case last month too.

It's good to see Gengar at #3 and Flygon at #11. They're
I think Heracross finally might drop into UU (if the cutoff is at 45) Spiritomb beating out Mismagius was expected. It's an invaluable pokemon, taking out some of the strongest special threats in UU. Blaziken beating Moltres is pretty funny. To be fair, it's not a bad pokemon. (SD sets are pretty lethal) Leafeon had a nice rise (it's a monstrous pokemon) and Primeape and Kanghaskan are finally in UU. (I think?)
