Lapras (Mono-Attacker)

Status: Waiting for QC approval

[SET]
name: Mono-Attacker
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Curse
move 3: Rest
move 4: Sleep Talk
item: Leftovers
nature: Careful
ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
  • Lapras has great defenses for UU: 130/80/95
  • Water is a great mono-attacking type in UU:
    • There is only 1 Dragon-Type Pokémon in UU, Altaria. Altaria usually switches out of Lapras in fear of a 4x super effective STAB attack.
    • Grass-Types are common, but usually switch out in fear of a super effective STAB attack.
    • Bulky Waters are set-up fodder; due to Lapras immmunity to Water and 4x resistance to Ice.
  • Lapras has great special bulk, for example:
    • Timid Rotom never 2HKOs with Thunderbolt
    • Timid Life Orb Venusaur never OHKOs with Leaf Storm
    • Modest Venusaur rarely 2HKOs with Leaf Storm
    • Timid Choice Specs Sceptile does around 60% with Energy Ball

Additional Comments:
  • Special attacks almost never 2HKO Lapras, so you can easily set up on Special Attackers
  • Physical attackers can't do anything to Lapras when he's at +3 or higher, even Heracross can't 2HKO with CC
  • You can use Avalanche over for 40 more Base Power, but Ice is not as good for a Mono-Attacking type
  • The EVs give Lapras maximized Special Bulk (obviously)
  • Try to bring in Lapras in on Water-Type attacks, this neutralizes SR damage

Well, you completely ignore any of the multitude of Fighting-types that would completely wreck this set. Ice Shard is about the only reason why Curse Lapras is usable, and without it, Lapras is kind of set up fodder.

I could see this working as a win situation Pokemon at the end of battle, but, other than that, this seems like a waste of space really.

Plus, yes Lapras can survive a Leaf Storm from Venusaur, but then what? Lapras has no way of threatening it with just Waterfall.

this seems pretty simular to something already on site, in the additional comments of the Curse set:

"An alternative set of Avalanche, Curse, Rest, and Sleep Talk is viable, as it gives Lapras the ability to recover its health and absorb status effectively. Sleep Talk is helpful to ensure that Lapras isn't wasting the two turns of sleep, and instead use them as an opportunity to raise its stats further with Curse or attack with a boosted Avalanche."

I guess you could just add to this?

Although Lapras is quite sturdy, with the SR weakness, weaknesses to common attacking types, lack of power, and the presence of (p)hazers, this set really doesn't merit its own analysis. A line could be added into AC of Curse like Komodo said, though mono-Water really isn't an optimal attacking type.

QC REJECTED 1/2

Pretty much what uragg said. Out of the top 10, probably 9 Pokemon completely shut this set down, and that isn't to mention many of those outside the top 10 do the same as well. Also, your calcs seem rather off, you said Timid LO Venusaur never OHKOes and that Modest Venusaur rarely 2HKOes...? Anyways, sorry but:
