Drapion is probably one of my favorite mons in the current RU meta. It simply has a great ability to check many of the top threats, including Ghost-types such as Rotom and Spiritomb. It is surprisingly fast, and that manages to catch many people off-guard, which is why the faster offensive sets are much better than the slow, specially defensive sets. Choice Band is by far my favorite set, with the exception of Taunt + SD. With a Choice Band, Drapion can OHKO a bunch of shit with Pursuit, should they choose to switch out, meaning that it can trap and kill frail Pokemon, especially Rapid Spinners such as Cryogonal, which fails to 2HKO with an uninvested Ice Beam, while Drapion KOs in return with Crunch or Pursuit, should Cryogonal decide to switch out. Drapion also has Aqua Tail so it can hit the annoying Sandslash for a decent amount of damage, 2HKOing any variant without a decent amount of HP / Def investment. Choice Band Earthquake also 2HKOes Hitmonchan, meaning that CB Drapion can effectively deal with every Rapid Spinner in the tier with the appropriate move, with the exception of Wartortle, who sucks anyway. It's also a great partner to Fighting-types; once you have shit like Spiritomb / Cofagrigus outta the way, you can easily run wild with things like Medicham and Hitmonlee.

Speaking of Medicham, that thing has great potential, I don't know why people don't use it more often. When paired with another Fighting-type, Medicham easily breaks down the cores of the opponent's team, especially slower teams without a Fighting immunity or resist. Everyone seems to be using Choice Scarfers such as Manectric these days, so there's almost no point in running Choice Scarf on Medicham. In my opinion, Medicham's Life Orb set is by far its most dangerous, as it can easily switch moves and KO many different targets that CB / CS might not have been able to thanks to the move restriction. For example, 252 HP Cofagrigus takes somewhere around 70% damage from a LO Zen Headbutt, meaning that it can easily be either 2HKOed, or be damaged to the point where another team member can easily finish it off.

I gotta say, I'm really liking this metagame so far, nothing seems to be overly broken. OTR Cofag is still a huge bitch, but it's manageable with smart playing / good teambuilding.

Looks like about 1/4 of Spiritomb are CM ResTalk. It's my favorite set. It just stops so much stuff in its tracks. It doesn't give a damn about status; most Gallade and Sigilyph can't touch it; the top three RU mons are taken down by Dark Pulse. Of the top ten, Drapion stops it cold, Entei takes it out, and Steelix can pHaze it, I guess. That ain't so bad. Why isn't it used more?

Wow I'm bemused by these statistics, as I am a high level RU player I am surprised by the fact that in the 1337 stats Rotom and Lanturn are so low this month. Personally I think that Whimsicott should be higher as it is such a great antilead in RU other than it can't take on Accelgor. Last point, what the hell Camerupt in 39 in usage!

I actually think Sandslash is really good, you just have to use the right set. By that I mean the defensive set is shitty but the Lum Swords Dance set is completely beastly. To use an example with Cofag, say you switch your Sandslash into Steelix to spin the rocks. Your opponent switches in Cofag as you Swords Dance. Cofag then has to decide between setting up Trick Room and getting 2HKOed or using Shadow Ball and getting 2HKOed, or using Will-O-Wisp and still getting 2HKOed thanks to Lum. Even standard defensive Cofag is 2HKOed by an Adamant +2 Earthquake.

Seeing Entei at #4 is surprising, however, because I barely see it and don't use it (Moltres is better).

Whimsicott not being at at least top 50 is surprising, considering that it's one of the best 'mons in RU ever. Perhaps I need to make a Sun team with it, or otherwise place it in a Rain Dance team as support.

Moltres and Entei hit from opposite sides of the spectrum (except for stupid CM Entei which sucks) so I think it would be wrong to say one is just better than the other. Still I think Entei is supremely better as an attacker in my humble opinion since it gets priority and doesn't have to worry about misses and is less scared of SR.


As for Audino I think Lickilicky is better than it since it has more defenses in every aspect bar the ability factor and it can really threaten stuff with Body Slam. Regenerator is nice but I need something to be my RU Chansey and Audino's (and Clefable's) defenses just don't cut it despite awesome abilities. Unless people are using TR Audino that is, I don't really know as I just got into RU.

Sandslash has claydol syndrome. Just like Claydol, Sandslash can do a whole bunch of things but just can't do them very reliably. And because OTR Cofag is so popular you would think more people would use Cryogonal because it can reliably deal with Cofag. What can Sandslash due to cofag? Hit it with a weak night slash or toxic it while it sets up. That doesn't sound very reliable.

The Steelix/Slowbro core seems to be pretty standard on the 1337 stats which is to be expected with Sharpedo leaving the tier which can put a dent into that core.

@shakeitup sandslash is not that bad suprisingly. Cryogonal cannot switch in on aerodactyl which has become more popular (it seems so). It also isnt weak to Stealth Rocks and isnt OHKO by tackle.

Scoobydoom, while I will admit that maybe Sandslash isn't as bad as we keep saying it is (I mean, I guess it does have the ability to beat Steelix and Aerodactyl one-on-one!), it just doesn't really deserve the overly high usage it gets. Against any team with a spinblocker, Sandslash just isn't doing that much because of it's inability to beat the #1 spinblocker in RU, Cofagrigus, without sacrificing a ton of bulk and Stealth Rock for Swords Dance. Cryogonal may not be able to beat Steelix or Aerodactyl, but it's simply a much more reliable spinner since it can beat Cofagrigus, Spiritomb, etc easily thanks to its STAB Ice Beam, Recover, and Haze / Toxic. Being weak to Stealth Rock isn't really as bad as you might think, since Cryogonal is ialso mmune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes (which have become increasingly popular alongside Cofagrigus), and Cryogonal's access to Recover lets it shrug off that Stealth Rock damage easily. Cryogonal can even check the increasing common Grass-types (Sceptile and Tangrowth are #6 and #7), as well as opposing Sandslash and stuff like Manectric. Sandslash, on the other hand, takes a ton of damage from Spikes and is severely crippling by Toxic Spikes, and it can't even spin those hazards away reliably against a competent opponent. I mean, I guess it does check Aggron and Drapion, but I personally think that if I were to use a Rapid Spinner, I would just use Cryogonal, Kabutops, or Hitmonchan before Sandslash, as their reliability at spinning is particularly useful in this metagame when spikestacking teams are everywhere.
