Typing
Weaknesses: 4X Fighting,2X Ground, 2x Fire
Resistances: 4X Dark, 4X Ghost, 2X Normal, 2X Steel, 2X Grass, 2X Ice, 2X rock, 2X Flying, 2X dragon
Immune: Poison, Psychic
Neutrality: Water, Electric, Bug

Pros:
Defensive Typing- With Dark / Steel Typing, Kirikizan gains a plethora of of resistances and 2 immunities. These resistances will give him at least some opportunities to switch in
Offensive Typing: Stab on dark moves is a blessing allowing him to pursuit or simply Night Slash
Decent Physical Defensive Bulk: This allows for abuse of his resistances
Attack: Great Attack stat especailly when paired with Dark Stab
Priority in Sucker Punch- Second strongest Priority

Cons:
Coverage: Dark and Steel do not allow for good joint coverage
Movepool: Relatively shallow movepool leads to poor overall coverage(NO Baton Pass, Superpower, or Earthquake)
Lack of Veratality: Not nessacarily a bad thing but without options; kirikizan will be stuck in relatively the same roles
Poor Hp and Specail Defense: Wastes some of his resistances as even resisted Specail Attacks will pack a punch
Weaknesses: Weak to three very common attacks(4X Fighting,2X Ground, 2x Fire)
Poor Speed: With a far from decent speed stat Kirikizan is doomed to be outsped

Now let's look at some potential sets.

Choice Scarf
Kirikizan @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Competitive Spirit
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly (+Spd, -SpA)
- Pursuit / Night Slash
- Brick Break
- Iron Head
- Stone Edge, Stealth Rock

Probably the most viable set for Kirikizan. The Choice Scarf makes up for his poor speed stat. Unfortunately it cannot help is rather shallow movepool. Nevertheless he has the ability to come in on one of his several resistances and either catch them running away or revenge them with ... Iron head I guess. Competitive Spirit is used to discourage Intimidate switch-ins.

Stat-Up
Kirikizan @ Life Orb
Ability: Competitive Spirit
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd (Depends on where speed falls in new tiers; could have more HP Evs)
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA) / Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
- Pursuit / Sucker Punch / Night Slash
- Iron Head
- Brick Break
- Swords Dance / Rock Polish

Basic Idea is to stat up and break down walls with Swords Dance or Clean Up after a Rock Polish

Choice Band Set is also possible I guess but lack of speed and and choice band sucker punch being a meh idea makes it a bad idea but if some on finds an effective set I will post it.

Removed Anti-Lead Set as Sucker Punch and Stealth Rock Combo aren't legal which made the set what it is.

Anyway, that's enough from me, now it's your turn. Discuss anything else Kirikizan related here.

This is an awesome pokemon, despite the lack of attack options.

Rock polish might do some good for its speed I thinks! A lot of its resistances are x4, so that should do some good. It does sting that it lacks sucker punch or bullet punch. Two moves it would have gotten stab on.

Kirikizan @ Life Orb
Adamant | Competitive Spirit
252 atk / 252 speed / 6 def
- Rock Polish
- Night Slash
- Iron Head
- Stone Edge / Brick Break

Would it work?

Yea he really would love sucker punch, superpower, baton bass, bullet punch or earthquake. However no use complaining about that now and can only hope for pokemon gray move tutors. The problem with the rock polish set is that he has poor coverage and Brick Break is just two weak to make up for that.

well I agree about the poor coverage, but 125 base atk + life orb shouldn't be understimated (plus, it can't be intimidated)

I havent looked over the movepool completley, but it seems like it will be let down by what weavile was let down by; low base power of its moves. Not to mention that it has neither the speed nor priority of weavile (though its got considerably better defensive typing), im iffy if this pokemon is gonna be ou.

Metal Burst doesn't have negative priority, so your lead set will want a Brave nature with 0 IVs in speed, defence and special defence. You can still pump 252 in HP and possibly execute the Metal Burst strategy more than once.

In this case Payback should be a primary option over Pursuit?

i forgot that it lacked negative priority that really makes the set slightly less viable but whatever. I still would use pursuit overpayback as you have metal burst to hit after being hit. And pursuit lets you get them on the run if they fear the metal burst.

Terrible coverage, terrible stats. Very disappointed. Hopefully the eminent pokemon grey will give him a good ability or at least some good moves.

Competitive Spirit seems good on paper as long as any stat drop will activate it. However the move tutors of grey will be the only thing that can really save him. He really needed sucker punch / bullet punch for priority, and superpower to give him relatively good coverage and a possible competitive spirit boost. I mean baton pass would have made him at least viable. It honestly is ashame because he is such a cool looking pokemon and bar his speed his stats are very well destributed.

Edit: I just realized he is very similar to diamond and pearl absol with rock smash lol. Poor movepools will forever be a curse

He DOES get Sucker Punch. =0

That means the Metal Burst set is suddenly more viable. He's immune to Toxic and Sandstorm too, which is even better.

Metal Burst doesn't have negative priority, but if you feel like abusing it, you could use a Lagging Tail...

If in one turn he can score a +2, 125 Atk stat, 70/80 BP STAB, neutral hit on Intimidate users like Mence and Gyara (he can) he has a niche, and a useful one. His defense/typing is good enough to survive a hit from them too.

Another Pokemon that looks pretty good but is actually terrible ... it is immune to Toxic and Sandstorm, gets a pretty good ability but still it is terrible. No powerful moves, only one priority (which you can't always rely on) and looks like it is getting owned by Infernape's Vacuum Wave ... just TERRIBLE! This will probably be a UU/BL.

Both Mence and Gyara get Overconfidence now which I think most people would prefer over Intimidate.

Well sucker punch does make the anti lead set that much more viable sorry for missing it. I edited to acount for that. I also added the stat up sets

Edit:

Plenty of Gyrara will still use intimidate for bulk allowing for better set up and allowing him to wall certian threats. Also Mence needs intimidate for bulk and to use outrage. I am certain that they ll be some intimidaters with all these hard hitting threats

Its a relief that it actually gets Sucker Punch then. I'm so getting this poke, looks like a knight made of blades.

When does it appear in-game?

he appears on a motorcycle, just when team plasma is about to take on the world!
(oh, and he is also scarfed)

more seriously.. i think that this guy have the potential of being the new scizor if they give him one key move in the third version. (superopoweeeeer) plus, it also goes well with his character. i only hope that he can fare well enough whit what he have now... well, at least he is one of the few chosen ones of this gen to learn SR... thats something.

I can not believe this Pokemon does not learn a single kick related attack. I want to love Kamen Rider Pokemon so much, but he just looks so bad.

Swords Dance + Sucker Punch is nothing to scoff at, and even the Rock Polish set looks promising, 125Atk + LO can dent a lot of things. Too bad Brick Break is as good as it gets in terms of a coverage attack :/

I can kinda see a Rock Polish set being viable. 125 attack is by no means bad, and it gets STAB Sucker Punch for what it doesn't outspeed (if anything?) at +2, but it may need that Competitive Spirit boost to be effective.

Kirikizan @Life Orb
Competitive Spirit | Jolly | 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
~ Rock Polish
~ Sucker Punch/Night Slash
~ Stone Edge
~ Brick Break/Iron Head

Could make for a decent lead but I'm not so sure.

Ugh, it looks soooo cool, but it will have a really hard time competing with all the superpowered new pokes, a lot of which sport STAB attack that exploit his weaknesses, especially fighting. Technician breloom will be the death of this thing.

That aside, I think a rock polish set could work IF you could find a way to ensure competitive spirit gets activated. He has really similar typing as lucario, but didn't get any of the moves =/

Maybe this:

-Rock Polish
-Night Slash
-Iron Head
-Brick Break

Ugh for the low Base Power moves, but this combination seems practical; with max speed, there's only a few pokes you won't outspeed. Night Slash for the crit, Iron Head for the hax flinch, Brick Break to complete your coverage.

Oh, but MACH PUNCH pwns this set even with 125 base stat in defense :(

EDIT: Wait, VACUUM WAVE is even worse, being special :(

maybe if he had something like the judo throw to force switches and improve the chances of switching an intimidating foe??? (plus stealth rock damage)

mmm he doesn't have the defenses to pull it too good even if he got one of the throws :(

uh.. maybe in 2v2 or 3v3 in case the other team decided to try a novelty strategy like 3 intimidating pokemons?

seriously... this pokemon in theory sounds quite great if you only add 2 or 3 moves... i hope that at least pursuit and suckerpunch are a legal moveset, since both are egg moves.

He has a priority move. That already makes him a lot easier to use than Kojondo, and Kojondo is looking surprisingly solid now.

125 base attack is not to be underestimated on any pokemon.
