[BoB Round 1] Deadfox081 vs rickheg

Stratos

Banned deucer.
Hello all, and welcome to the first round of ASB's tournament showcasing the best of the best! Will this go the way of other tournaments in ASB history? Let us discover:

10:59 rickheg: There's still hope of him DQ'ing himself. Seriously my best bet, I think

I guess some are hoping it will.

There are no easy matchups in this tournament—just ask me grumble grumble—and rickheg vs deadfox081 is no exception! One of these men will stand, one will fall. Will the victor be rickheg?

Type: Rock

Abilities:
Levitate:
(Passive) This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss. Ground moves can still hit.
Technician: (Passive) This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their attacks that normally deal 6 or below base damage to have their base damage multiplied by 1.5. (e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) damage, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2).
Mold Breaker (DW): (Passive) Whenever this Pokemon attacks, it emits an invisible, blindingly quick pulse preceding the attack that disables the opponents natural abilities (e.g. Levitators plummet towards the ground before Earthquake hits, Volt Absorb will not absorb electric attacks, Clear Body does not prevent stat-drops, etc.)

Battle Armor: (Passive) This Pokemon’s thick armor prevents it from taking critical hits.
Chlorophyll (DW): (Passive) During bright sunlight, this Pokemon’s cells absorb more solar energy, doubling (x2) their speed.

Justified: (DW) (Passive) This Pokemon's body reacts to dark energy, invigorating its passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, the Pokemon's attack will increase one (1) stage. A boost gained this way by another Pokemon's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

rickheg is a man known for his battling skills that are just below the radar, and also for his periods of sudden extended absence, making his hope that deadfox would DQ rather ironic. He seems to have adopted the exact same strategy as me: bring two ridiculously powerful CAPs (as opposed to the other CAPs which are just powerful) and a Gallade. May it work for both of us.

deadfox081 is famous for being absolutely amazing at finishing off raid bosses and failing to finish off opponents, and, more recently, for a shocking ragequit post that all are glad he has reversed. This man has been denied a gym not once, but twice, the exact antithesis of user Frosty. Will he be able to channel his frustration into unstoppable orders? Or will he continue the saga of chokes? Only time will tell.
Both of these teams look absolutely terrifying to face, which makes this battle even tougher to call. Let's start this nailbiter the way it'll end: with a coinflip.

rickheg sends out his Pokemon first!

Well, here we are. I haven't been in a tournament since the very first ASB tournament. And now, I find myself in a tournament of "Best of the Best." Whether I belong or not is a moot point, we're here, and so is our opponent. Conveniently, it isn't someone I've battled seriously before, so this should be very interesting. I have the unfavorable position of sending out first. So many paths to victory. Even more paths to defeat. I must tread cautiously with every move.

Fuck all this talking. I'mma go in there and break shit.

You could have at least tried to take this a little more seriously. Fine. Not like I can stop you. My back is still aching from last time I tried.

Relax. I've got this. Me and my Rare Candy.

Surt the Pyroak @ Rare Candy

"Why hello there rickheg. I've seen much of you but never have we faced mano e mano. Don't let my reputation precede me as this time we are playing for keeps. Puncha its on you to prove it. Take this Expert Belt and toggle Sheer Force on."

Puncha @ Expert Belt

Rock Slide > Poison Jab > Rock Slide
IF Counter THEN Bulk Up
IF Worry Seed THEN Detect [only once]

Hello, deadfox81. It appears as though this battle must take place. May our first encounter be a memorable one.

Alright, Surt. We're not in a favorable position. We've found someone as heavy as you, and can hit you harder than you can hit him. This round won't be fun for you, but with a little luck, it can end in our favor.

I don't like you.

Psycha @ Focus Sash

Alright. That could have gone worse. I think we made the right decision.

I hate you so much. Now?

Yeah, go for it. Surt smash.

Flare Blitz > Wood Hammer > Flare Blitz

IF Reflect, replace all actions after it with Flamethrower > Fire Blast
IF Double Team, Earthquake the following action and push back. This takes priority.

Hey, I think I actually have a plan. Let's see what happens when I do this;

Switch to Ragnarok the Stratagem @ Life Orb

Hey, I'm not done yet!

Yes you are. Now stand aside, there's slaughter to be done.

IF Volt Switch THEN Block

Round 4: A New Beginning. Also Hulk Smash

21:15Maxim_6 ok so what's the official ruling? I don't know why deadfox would sub to use Block if it doesn't do anything
21:16Its_A_Random "Pokémon affected by Block can switch out with Volt Switch."
21:16Its_A_Random from lolobapedia
21:16Its_A_Random but still
21:16Its_A_Random we decided it was infeasible, since to get to that point, you are being a sitting duck

All right, so with that out of the way, let's get this party resumed shall we?

To start this round off, Ragnarok starts off with a rather clever move if I say so myself. He starts to glow with electricity, then quickly ram the Conkeldurr. Puncha, listening to his master's advice, decides to block Ragnarok's path of escape. It succeeds in delaying him from switching for the rest of the round. However, I don't think it had deadfox's intended effect, as the IRC conversation I posted above illustrates.

The next action is a bit more exciting, with Ragnarok glowing a brilliant white and dazzling Puncha. That Dazzling Gleam has gotta hurt. But Puncha doesn't take this lying down, and slams Ragnarok with enough power to break bricks. That Brick Break must've really hurt, but Ragnarok is still standing quite well.

Finally, we pretty much have a repeat of the first action. Ragnarok charges itself with electricity and rams Puncha, and Puncha attempts to follow up with another Block, but it does nothing this time. It seems this might've been a tactical error, as it would've worked best had deadfox just put down "only do this once". With a flash, Ragnarok is returned to his trainer's side.

This round fared quite poorly for Deadfox, not only did he accidentally do a lot less damage than he intended, but Stratagem got away thanks to a rather silly mechanic. Rickheg is certainly smiling with delight this round, but he has to send out a Pokemon and order against a Conkeldurr, no easy task.

Remember, Pyroak had Regenerator when he was switched out. That should mean 10 more HP for him. Also, Reuniclus gained 3 HP switching out?

This may be the opening we need! And while beating a Conkeldurr is no simple feat, having super effective STAB helps.

Mystic the Gallade @ Expert Belt takes the field.

Which paths lead to victory and which ones lead to defeat are still unclear. I hope to rectify this.

Round 5: Stalling Tactics

Welcome back everybody! Last round we saw deadfox make a slight mechanics blunder that could have a huge impact in this match. Can he come back from his misstep?

Rickheg, using his Volt Switch to his advantage, switches in Mystic the Gallade! Well, deadfox definitely knows that this isn't an advantageous matchup in the slightest, so he orders Puncha to prepare to dodge any attacks. I don't know how this is going to work, but Mystic starts glowing purple in preparation to launch a Psychic attack! As if that wasn't enough, it looks like Mystic is aiming for a weak spot! However, Puncha...decides the punch the pulse away? Well I guess he's earned his name, though I bet that Detect had something to do with it!

Unfazed, Mystic continues the offensive with a sudden flash of white light. Puncha has no further recourse to dodge this attack, so he takes the Dazzling Gleam up front, and doesn't suffer too much damage from it. I kinda have to wonder why rickheg didn't just use Psycho Cut here, but who am I to judge? Puncha retaliates by slapping Mystic...with a slab of concrete! The force from the attack seems to have Knocked Off Mystic's Expert Belt, and did some nice damage besides!

Alas, the next actions result in roughly the same situation we had at the beginning: Puncha starts to Detect attacks, while Mystic launches another Psychic pulse which gets punched away. It seems deadfox is trying to stall Mystic so that he can order first and initiate a switch phase.

As we conclude this round, it seems deadfox has successfully stalled rickheg out of a Puncha ko, but Puncha had to spend a lot of energy to deflect those blows. That said, I think deadfox has successfully damage controlled his mistake, so it's anyone's game right now. Stay tuned to see what happens next!

Counterswitch?

Yes, as a matter of fact, I will.

Ragnarok the Stratagem returns to the field.

Ominous Wind > Shadow Ball > Ominous Wind
IF Focus Blast, Double Team (3 clones), only once
IF successful P/E, Calm Mind

"It might make you a bit of a sitting duck Psycha, but at least we can rid ourselves of one of his scarier team members."

Round 6: Heavy Offense

Welcome back viewers! Last round we witnessed Puncha successfully stalling Mystic, allowing deadfox to send Psycha the Reuniclus back in! However, rickheg responds by sending in Ragnarok the Stratagem. How will this match play out?

Well, both teams start off on the offensive. Ragnarok attacks by whipping up an Ominous looking Wind and sending it at Psycha! Psycha takes a lot of damage, but that Focus Sash and the Overcoat have helped soften the blow a bit. Unfortunately, that focus sash has become useless now as Psycha has been knocked below half of it's hit points. That said, Psycha doesn't seem too phazed by this, and uses the natural energies in the field to send an Energy Ball Ragnarok's way. That seems to have dealt some pretty good damage, but at this rate Ragnarok's going to be ahead in the damage race. What could deadfox possibly be planning?

Hmm, I definitely see that Reuniclus of his planning something. In the meantime though, Ragnarok uses more shadow energy to send a Ball of Shadows at Psycha, dealing a lot more damage thanks to that Focus Sash being gone. However, Psycha starts winding up...woah is that what I think it is? Yep it certainly is, Psycha is spinning around and around and then suddenly nails Ragnarok! That Gyromaniac Ball combo sends Ragnarok flying, and it crashes into the wall, then drops down with a thump. It seems that Ragnarok has fainted, officially putting Deadfox in the lead 3-2!

That said, I'm not sure this was as good of an idea as he was hoping. Yes Ragnarok is down, but Psycha is clearly tired from that attack, and it's going first no less! Meanwhile rickheg has ample opportunity to set up and take out Psycha for good, so I think this move has translated into a tradeoff. Still, deadfox does have the advantage of a full hp Pokemon still in reserve, so I think he's still ahead because of this move. Stay tuned to find out what happens next!

Action One:
Stratagem used Ominous Wind

Damage: [8-1+4.5+3]*1.5=21.75
[21.75 Damage R] [2 Damage S] [-6 Energy S]

Reuniclus used Gyromaniac Ball

Energy: [7+11]*1.75=31.5
To Crit: [1=Yes]=9=No
