[BoB Round 1] Gerard vs Birkal

And here we are again. The innocent arena, with its wide open spaces and packed grandstands, eagerly awaits the taint of battle. The bright floodlights spanning the entire stadium, the thousands of excited fans, the dozens of trained referees and nurses, and above all, the two trainers standing resolutely at opposite ends of the field, they are all here for one purpose. Another tournament has made its way to the ASB Arena. It's not often that such battles make their way to this arena. Usually, they are rented out for various training and/or grudge matches between trainers at a minor upkeep fee. But when a tournament does begin, the entire region springs to life in unbridled anticipation. It is truly something special. Every match will remain in the participants' memory for their entire lives, and some of incredible caliber will remain even in the viewers' memory.

Now, the stakes are even higher. Scientists have managed to safely(?) recreate the process that, so many years ago, led to the creation of the impossibly powerful Pokemon Mewtwo. To celebrate scientific progress, they opted to give the Mewtwo away - but only to the absolute best trainer. News of the discovery traveled fast and trainers from across the region journeyed to prove themselves in the tournament.

Among these trainers is Birkal. Though he has never before participated in a tournament, he has certainly shown his prowess as the fighting gym leader with the talent to use both straightforward attacking and trickery in his battles. Proud of his team, Birkal has high hopes for this tournament.

[104 MC]

That is, until he saw his opponent standing across the field. Gerard, with his quirky persona and unique language and spelling, is ASB's only undefeated gym leader, expertly controlling his psyquic-types to victory again and again. Though he usually participates in double battles, his skill in singles should never be underestimated. It might be an uphill battle for Birkal...

  • Fighting STAB; Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.
Abilities: Steadfast / Justified (H)
  • Steadfast: (Passive) If this Pokemon is flinched, it becomes aware of the speed difference and increases Speed by one (1) stage to make up the difference. This Speed boost is maintained at the end of each round.
  • Justified: (Passive) This Pokemon's body reacts to dark energy, invigorating its passions. When hit by a Dark-Type move, the Pokemon's attack will increase one (1) stage. A boost gained this way by another Pokemon's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

Nature: Bold (+1 Def, -1 Atk)
Type: Psychic / Fairy

  • Psychic STAB; Can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-Type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.
  • Fairy STAB; -1 EN on non-Fairy Typed Nature, Sound, and Scent moves (Stacks with second STAB where applicable). (Nature Power, Natural Gift; Sound Moves; Aromatherapy, Odor Sleuth, Sweet Scent)
Abilities: Synchronize / Trace / Telepathy (H) / Pixilate (M)
  • Synchronize: (Passive) Pokemon with this ability mentally link their condition to an opposing Pokemon and pass on any status inflicted on them to their foe. Due to their body structure, Poison-Types cannot be poisoned, Fire-Types cannot be burned & Electric-Types cannot be paralyzed in this manner.
  • Trace: (Trigger) When entering into battle, this Pokemon can copy an ability on one of its opponents for 6 EN. This effect only triggers if the ability to be copied is specified when the Pokemon is sent out. The ability remains on the Pokemon for six (6) actions. Wonder Guard cannot be Traced.
  • Telepathy: (Passive) This Pokemon has a mental link with its allies in multiple battles, which allows it to avoid taking damage from allied attacks that damage each foe or the entire field like Blizzard and Earthquake. They are still affected by an opponents spread damage attacks.
  • Pixilate (Toggle) By default, this Pokemon's Normal-type moves are Fairy-type moves, and have an additional two (2) BAP boost. When toggled, this Pokemon's Normal-type attacks have their BAP increased by two (2). If a Pokemon has been skill-swapped multiple abilities that change Normal-type attacks, the attacks become dual-typed, but the BAP boosts of the abilities do not stack.

Hecate (Aurumoth) {}
AurumothFront.png
Nature: Quiet (+1 SpA, -15% Speed, -10% Evasion)
Type: Bug / Psychic

  • Bug STAB; Adds an additional guaranteed attack on all multi-hit moves (does not include two hit moves) with a total hit cap of five (5).
  • Psychic STAB; Can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-Type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.
Abilities: Weak Armor / No Guard / Illusion (H)
  • Weak Armor: (Toggle) No default effect. When toggled, the Pokemon loosens its worn defensive armor so that it will break off when an opponent uses a contact attack, reducing the Pokemon's Defense and increasing their Speed by one (1) stage for each hit.
  • No Guard: (Passive) This Pokemon has an immense confidence from perfecting each of its attacks, giving them all perfect accuracy. As a result, it feels it can weather every strike, and will not dodge an attack even if ordered to. Only when an OHKO move is issued by the opponent does sense return, and the Pokemon acts normally. Additionally, even with their extra skill, the power and exhaustion involved in using OHKO moves prevents them from being benefited by No Guard; they will have their normal accuracy.
  • Illusion: (Passive) Whenever you send this Pokemon out, it can feign the appearance of another member on your squad. If this Pokemon is damaged by a direct attack, the Illusion will cease at the end of the round. Direct damage is any attack that does damage to the Pokemon's HP. Attacks that are evaded, blocked via Protect, or damage a Substitute are not considered direct damage. It will retain the typing and moveset of the Pokemon with Illusion. [Usage Note: PM the ref if you are sending out a Pokemon with Illusion with the info on said Pokemon and one of your squad members in a Switch=KO battle. You must use that squad member later in the battle though.]

sorry to dissappoint but i dont think there will be leethoof flavor this match. Instead, you get this regular flavor:

As Crayons amuses himself by repeatedly shooting out his new heavy steel tongue and then watching it drop with a satisfying thud to the ground, trainer Birkal decides it might be time to switch. Crayons can only keep his attention focused on the battle for so long at a time before he is distracted by a stray flower, Pokepuff cart, intensely interesting pebble, or in this case himself, and it looks like his time has run out. With one final metallic clunk, Crayons is sent back into his Pokeball, and a true steel-type replaces him: Lucario.

With a blast of Pokeball smoke, Lucario leaps onto the battlefield, pounding his pawfist on the ground and striking a suitably dramatic pose, befitting of such a cool and suave Pokemon. Rising so slowly it seems the stadium itself is moving in slow motion, Lucario sweeps his paw aside, revealing his most treasured possession: the legendary Lucarionite. With a methodic wave of his hand, Lucario flashes a grin before he arcs high into the air in a complicated, carefully choreographed, yet completely unnecessary mega-evolution ritual. Halfway through the peak corkscrew, the megastone fragments into streams of blinding light, and when Lucario lands, his scarf majestically streaming in the previously nonexistant wind, he has become Mega-Lucario. All Lucarios have their own unique aura, but this one seems to exude pure awesome.

Katherine was unimpressed with the...unusual...foe she faced before, but this new Lucario takes her breath away unexpectedly. Her heart flutters at every jump and twirl Lucario makes, and it seems that he can do nothing wrong. A pity he must be on the other side; she longs to fight alongside a Lucario someday, this one especially. So strong, so agile, so handsome, and yet, still an enemy...Regaining her composure, Katherine narrows her eyes and haughtily prepares for the upcoming battle. Whatever romance she might want with him, it can wait.

Nothing could prepare her, though, for the lightning-fast strike that Lucario opens with. Dashing towards her and whipping his Tail around with the force of an Ironclad Aggron, he strikes right across the face, sending her reeling backwards, tripping over her dress in confusion and pain. Katherine does not falter easily, and will not back down to any man. She dusts herself off thinks carefully about her next plan, communicating telepathically with her trainer. Giving a slight smile and a knowing look towards Gerard, she closes her eyes and focuses. Using Telekinesis, she cleverly lifts herself off of the ground of the stadium, rising above the petty grounded Lucario (but not too high, she must keep her modesty...) in anticipation for his next round of attacks.

Lucario, angry at the unmanly reaction of his opponent, smashes into the ground with rage. Crushing the poor grass with his fists, he is so strong as to cause an Earthquake, shaking the arena to its roots. No true man would stand for this non-attacking bullshit, even if a pretty girl is the one pulling the bullshit. Katherine, unharmed and amused from her lofty position, smiles and sends happy thoughts through Lucario's aura. She can't deny that the display of strength was rather impressive, and congratulates the Lucario on its stadium-destroying abilities. Lucario isn't quite expecting this reaction..his opponents are supposed to just fight him! Beat 'em up, menliest men wins! But this Gardevoir, she really thought that was pretty great? Does she actually want an Encore?

His rugged exterior cracking for just a moment, Lucario glances shyly into Gardevoir's eyes before shaking off the moment of boyishness. He poses majestically before launching into another Earthquake, crushing what little grass remained beneath his feet. After his attack finishes, he huffes and flexes as subtly as possible before looking up expectantly.

Katherine only gives a halfhearted smirk, crushing Lucario's newfound hopes, before grinning wickedly and sapping his life energy, splitting her extreme pain with his distinct lack of pain. Boys are so easy to manipulate sometimes.

....................You've done a wonderful job in here Katherine, but sadly with Protean gone now we are gonna be unable to overpower our foe unless we get very lucky with the ht rolls, but fear not my dear as your brother comes to help you get out of this, Wilde it's an amazing team player and those rocks won't bother him a bit, even less if it means to protect his bigger sister from the monster that is MegaLucario. Katherine you'll have your chance to come back later but for now, let's welcome our dear friend to the field. Switching Wilde in Katherine's place! Wilde, come out!

"I'd like to wait and see the updated status of the field before making a decision."

Leethoof, it'd be nice if there was a bit more beef to your end-of-round totals. From my calculations, Magic Room is still in effect for two more rounds, Stealth Rock is still up on Gerard's side of the field, and Encore should work for one more action. Since your reffing is sparse, it'd be nice to have these factors listed prominently. Also with the update on the field I'm requesting, I'd like to see the stats of the new Pokemon coming out. That includes Stealth Rock damage that it will take while coming in. Thank you!

The Stealth Rock Damage does not need to be shown, as it takes place in what is effectively Action 0 of the next round - this is especially important for this particular battle. In addition, I do not believe the new stats should have to be shown at all, especially since there would be know way of knowing the switch in the last round, and I feel this would be confusing. All other requests have been adhered to, please decide if you'll switch whenever you're ready Birkal.

e: Actually, this is being discussed, I'd hold out on doing anything for the time being.

Even though this is still up for debate within Policy Review, I'll go ahead and make an order. I don't think my request is unreasonable, but it has no precedent. Regardless, I don't think it matters if I am looking at Aurumoth or not. My actions will most likely be the same in either situation.

Wilde, this is a surprisingly tranquil round for us, and at least we don't have to frisk getting burned which is always a plus, but sadly Wilde, you lack a move that would ensure that wold ensure Rotom to be KOed this round, still we can do some pretty heavy damage with one of our tiny little tricks, it would have been even better if we didn't have Magic Room making our item practically useless, though it's probably a fair trade considering Rotom's, but those Earthquakes will definitely leave a mark thanks to that 4x weakness, make sure you teach him why you're one of my best mons Wilde!

Flavor:
Welcome back to ASB Tournament Arena, where Gerard's Wilde and Birkal's Bzzt face off in the beginning of Round 3. Bzzt starts off by firing off a Volt Switch, which will allow him to escape a little later. The question is, will this powerful attack hit a Gallade... or an Aurumoth under the effects of a deadly illusion? The answer is revealed as Wilde, not Hecate, swaps the skills of the two opponents, making Bzzt Justified and letting Wilde Levitate. Wilde, confidant now in the nature of his opponent, responds by Overheating Wilde, but Wilde comes out confidently and fires off an Earthquake at the now-grounded Rotom. Finally, Bzzt once again Volt Switches as Wilde creates another Earthquake.
Well it isn't Leethoof flavor but its the best I can do.

If successful Taunt, use Magic Coat that action. Push back actions.

....................Alright Wilde, outdamaging would be possible if we had 10 subs, sadly we don't but at least we can take this opportunity to steal Protean and to teach our dear friend why Encore is one of the best moves in the game, even though he probably knows it already but a refreshment course never hurt anyone, at least until this sine I doubt Crayons will be enjoying loosing it's most wonderful toy. Just in time for Magic Room to end.

....................Amazing as usual, now that we don't have to make 17 different subs we might actually be able to finally beat thing annoying thing once and for all, we better prepare for the worst though, as we are looking a tad weaklish, so a little rest will be much appreciated. And we will be once again to keep the fight going.

PS: Kecleon typing is normal since Protean only works with damaging moves (and he doesn't have it anyway)
PSS: And not that it mattered this last round but Kecleon's stats are 3/3/3/4/40
PSSS: Magic Room just ran out

....................A significant flop on my part, but not something we can't recover from, we might be a little worst to wear but that has never been an issue before, and I doubt it will make a huge difference now, we just have to be a lot more careful from now on, time to put our strengths to good use, now gardi, murder that ugly creature and bring me his head on a stick! (I don't take lightly on someone defeating my mons). And since Protean is out of the icture I guess we'll have to settle with tracing Colour Change)

It'd be nice to see Taunt in the reffing.

"Sick work, Crayons."

Fake Out | Shadow Claw | Chill

If successful protective / evasive move on A1 or A2, use Feint that action.
If Counter is ordered when you would use Shadow Claw, use Shadow Ball that action.
