Excadrill and TTar are threatened by Fighting- and Water- types, both of which Altaria does a pretty good job checking. It also provides the team with Hel Bell support to remove Burns caused by the likes of Rotom-W. Not only that, but Altaria supports the core pretty well offensively too, by luring Scizor, Ferrothorn and Skarmory, which can prevent Excadrill from sweeping.

Latias helps to patch up the Keldeo weakness and is able to check Fighting-types such as Breloom, Conkeldurr and Chesnaught. It is also able to do well against bulky Water-types such as Suicune and Manaphy while also being a reliable switch-in against Mega Charizard-Y. Excadrill helps out Latias by providing an answer to Mega Gardevoir, Clefable and Jirachi, all of which Latias struggles against. Hidden Power Fire is chosen over Healing Wish to lure Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn and Skarmory, all of which are annoying foes. Roost is used so that Latias is not worn down too quickly.

Celebi works extremely well as a Status Absorber for WoWs from Rotom W and works well against both Fighting and Water types, something the core struggles against. These EVs maximize the defensive bulk Celebi has to avoid the 2hko from a Poison Jab Assault Vest Conkeldurr while being able to 2hk0 98% of the time with Psychic. Celebi also checks Breloom, Choiced Landos without U-Turn. Manaphy Ice Beam does not 2hk0 either while you 2hk0 back with Giga Drain. Its a nice switch in to Bulky Waters as well.

Keldeo is a great partner for this core as it can kill bulky grounds that are in the way of an exca sweep and it appreciates the pursuit support from tar which removes the lati twins. They also have decent defensive synergy as keldeo can take water attacks and not mind scald burns while exca can take flying/electric and psychic attacks for keld.

Some threats that Tyranitar and Excadrill struggle with are Hippowdon, Lando-T (including choice scarf), Tank Garchomp, Mega Venusaur, Azumarill, Keldeo and Charizard Y. Even though Tyranitar has Ice Beam, so Lando-T isn't a problem, but Tank chomp can 2HKO Tyranitar and it's also able to survive an Ice Beam as well. Kyurem-Black is able to provide a stronger faster Ice Beam that's able to 1HKO Lando and Garchomp, and also 2HKO Mega Venusaur and Hippowdon. Keldeo, Azumarill and Charizard-Y all fall to Fusion Bolt, and Choice Scarf is necessary to outspeed Keldeo, which could otherwise just KO Kyurem-Black with Secret Sword.

Sand offense is often focussed on cleaning with Excadrill but there are some pokemon that need to be removed before Excadrill can sweep. Not only does Dragonite have great defensive synergy with both Excadrill and Tyranitar, as it resists fighting, water and ground, but it is also able to lure in almost every switchin to Excadrill. Offensive threats that can check Excadrill or Tyranitar, like Banded Azu, Keldeo, Breloom and MScizor, are all OHKOd by one of the moves Dragonite has to offer. Other pokemon that can switch in against Exca like Slowbro, Rotom-W, Quagsire, Chesnaught, Ferrothorn, Hippowdon and Skarmory can also switch in against Dragonite, assuming it is either banded or DD, but will be surprised by one of the coverage moves. Dragonite still struggles with fairies if it doesn't run Iron Tail / Head, but Excadrill can beat almost every fairy type in the game.

CB tyrantrum breaks sooo HARD. It literally kills every Exca counter with its STABs. hippo is 2hko by outrage. Head Smash merks bro, Rotom and skarm. Offensive lando can't even switch in. Ttar Pursuits latios so it won't revenge this guy. Exca checks most fairy types. It makes you weak to Keldeo so Latios or Altaria fit perfectly with these mons. Also some steels that resist rock are annoying but Superpower helps and Exca has EQ so nbd.

Strong balance core that cover each other pretty well and offer bulky win cons & status absorbers. Clef handles Weavile, Kyu-B, many variants of Keldeo and electric types carrying ice type coverage for Gliscor. In return Gliscor handles Gengar, Heatran and Bisharp to an extent while also being able to deal with things like Amoonguss. I threw T-Wave on Clefable because that set is extremely popular right now.

Thanks to Manaphy outspeeding both members of the core, once Manaphy gets to +3, it's pretty much over for both Clefable and Gliscor. Lum Berry grants it a one-time immunity to Clefable's Thunder Wave, proceeding to 2HKO with Scald, while Clefable does pitiful damage back thanks to Manaphy's good bulk. Gliscor has literally no chance lol, as even unboosted, Ice Beam OHKOs after Rocks.

Though it can't switch into clefable clefable also can't switch into any of medicham's moves without avoiding a ko the next turn except maybe Fake Out whereas Gliscor is easily outsped & 1hkoed by ice punch.
