Deoxys-Normal (Revamp) [QC: 3/3] [GP: 2/2]

oh good golly gosh why

(amateur check)

[OVERVIEW]

Deoxys is well -known for being horrible in every way. Offensively, it's outclassed by Deoxys-A, and as a hazard setter, it's outclassed by Deoxys-S. It has base 150 / 150 offenses and 150 Speed, which isn't bad but is outclassed by Deoxys-A. The small increase in bulk it gets over the attack formDeoxys-A is so miniuscule that it won’t matter in most situations except for; however, it does allow Deoxys to survivinge a Fake Out from Mega Kangaskhan, which requires noithout investment. Investing in a lot of dheavily in Defense will gain you aadds some surprise factor byto Deoxys, letting it survivinge stronger attacks such as an Extreme Speed from Extreme Killer Arceus. Doing so is unreliable and really gimmicky, but it might be worthwhile, because Deoxys has nothing better to be doing. Its only true niche is giving yourself an excuse for losing. No serious team should ever have this Pokemon on it, due to it being useless and 100% outclassed.

Moves
========

This moveset is to try and salvage as much utility as possible out ofrom Deoxys. Psycho Boost is itDeoxys's strongest STAB move, that allows Deoxysit to chip away at threats even without sSpecial aAttack investment. Spikes is a great entry hazard which helps teammates sweep more easierly. Its main job isn't to set entry hazards, but it’s always a nice option if it has nothing else better to do. Stopping threats from setting up, setting entry hazards, and spreading status is what Taunt is for. The one strange move on this set is Counter. It is for retaliating against Extreme Killer Arceus. Deoxys survives an Extreme Speed even after a Swords Dance boost and cCounter will OHKO Arceus. Low KickSuperpower is another option over Counter, because if Arceus tries to attack Deoxys with another attackmove, or just set up on the predicted Counter, Deoxys will fail to check Arceus. Low Kick wSuperpower is still be able to chipdeplete more than half of Arceus's hpHP, which is better than nothing.

Set Details
========

This spread is to maximize Deoxys's defense so it can check Extreme Killer Arceus, while being able to outspeed Darkrai. The 252 HP EvVs and 200 Defense EvVs might seem like a wasted of an investment for a Deoxysn a Pokemon which only has base50 / 50 defensesphysical bulk, but they help out inallow Deoxys to checking Extreme Killer Arceus. The 56 Speed withEVs alongside a Timid nature makes it Deoxys faster than a Darkrai so it can Low Kick,that Deoxys can Taunt or set up Spikes onbefore it dies. A Lax nature is advisedIt also allows Deoxys to hit Darkrai with Superpower, if it is running Low Kickit; however, when running Superpower, a Naive nature is advised. Chilan Berry halves attacksdamage taken from nNormal-type attacks. Without this berry,, allowing Deoxys would not be able to survive a boosted Extreme Speed from Extreme Killer Arceus. Thanks to the berry, it will survive a boosted Extreme Speed after Stealth Rock and one layer of Spikes damage.

Usage Tips
========

If you suspect that your opponent to haves Extreme kKiller Arceus, then keeping thisDeoxys healthy and waiting in the back is a good option so you can check it. If the opponent reveals another Arceus forme, then Deoxys is free to set Spikes, chip away at threats, and Taunt Pokemon that might set up. If they reveal Extreme Killer Arceus, switching in Deoxys is not a good idea because esExtreme Speed will breakforce consumption of the cChilan bBerry and 2HKO if it Extreme speedsDeoxys on the switch. Sackrificing a teammate, then bringing itDeoxys in, is the safest play, but you can switch in on a predicted Swords Dance if you want to savekeep your teammate alive.

Team Options
========

Deoxys shouldn't be used on a serious team, but if you must use it, it really doesn't need any teammates to function. Having teammates that enjoy spikes is nice. Anything that can get some notable OHKO's after sSpikes will benefit from Deoxys. Having an actual, reliable answer to Extreme Killer Arceus is nice, too, as Deoxys will usually not always be enough. Anything that switches into Yveltal and Giratina-O like Diancie or Xerneas is nice because, because the threat of super -effective priority moves will threatenforce Deoxys out. Diancie and Xerneas are well-suited for this role.

However, if you must use this Pokemon for whatever reason, Magic cCoat is nice on this setusable to allow Deoxys to act as an anti-lead against some stuffhazard setters like Deoxys-S. Stealth Rock can replace Spikes if need be, but having athere are more reliable Stealth rRock setter is bettout there. Deoxys can opt for Extreme Speed to weaken or revenge kill threats that out speed it.

Checks and Counters

EDIT: I just realised that you were using the old analysis format. Could you please use the one in this thread in future? It makes life easier for everybody. For what it's worth, I changed that for you, but that's just something to keep in mind.

Big thanks to Aurora and Sweep for the help on this one.
Also magsyy, Aurora's check wasn't an official one. This one is, however, so keep it at 1/2.
GP 1/2

magsyy might wanna keep on top of GP checks, if mods have to implement the GP then you lose credit for the analysis write up. the check above is 1/2 and not 2/2 remember.

Thursday deadline.
