[/SIZE][OVERVIEW]

Donphan makes a fine Rapid Spinner in the OU environment as it is able to switch in on many common physical attackers and remove the opponent's entry hazards with Rapid Spin, while taking only small amounts of damage in the process. The lack of a reliable recovery move and a low Special Defense stat is disheartening, as Donphan has great HP, Attack, and Defense stats which it can put to good use. Ghost-types that attempt to block Rapid Spin are not a huge problem for Donphan as it can hit them with Assurance.
[SIZE=+1]

[/SIZE][SET]
name: Rapid Spin Support
move 1: Rapid Spin
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Assurance
move 4: Stealth Rock / Ice Shard / Roar
item: Leftovers
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 188 Atk / 68 Def

[Set Comments]

Donphan has a great support movepool, including Rapid Spin, which is vital for removing entry hazards that damage your teammates. Donphan's resistance to Stealth Rock means it will take a pitiful 6.25% damage upon switching in. Its great HP and Defense stats allow Donphan to take physical hits reasonably well, while its huge Attack stat allows it to dish out powerful hits simultaniously. Opponents such as Tyranitar, Metagross, and Scizor are unable to do large amounts of damage to Donphan, making it a fine choice to remove entry hazards from the field.

Earthquake is Donphan's most powerful STAB move, which allows it to hit Lucario and Metagross super effectively. Assurance is listed in the third slot as it allows Donphan to hit Ghost-types, particularly Rotom-A, for super effective damage. Stealth Rock breaks any Focus Sash the opponent holds and also weakens your opponent's team upon switching in. Ice Shard hits weakened Dragon-types such as Salamence and Latias, the former having a 4x weakness to the move. Roar is helpful to shuffle your opponent's team.

[Additional Comments]

The EVs give Donphan the maximum defensive capability while keeping its offensive power. 252 HP EVs gives it a number that is divisible by 16, which is a perfect Leftovers recovery number. 188 Attack EVs will allow Donphan to OHKO standard Choice Scarf Rotom-A with Assurance after taking Stealth Rock damage, while being able to 2HKO most standard defensive versions. The remaining EVs are placed into Defense to give Donphan greater tanking ability. Using 44 Speed EVs is an option if you would like to outspeed Relaxed Swampert before it can use Ice Beam, or Calm Blissey before she has a chance to use Wish.

Donphan has a hard time dealing with bulky Water- and Grass-types who carry special-based moves, such as Suicune and Celebi, respectively. For these reasons, Blissey makes an excellent partner for this set as she can switch in on almost every special-based move in the game with little trouble. She has the added bonus of learning Thunder Wave, which can help compensate for Donphan's pitiful Speed stat.

Another great partner for Donphan is Latias. With her high Special Defense stat and resistance to Water- and Grass-type moves, you will find yourself switching her in regularly; this is helped by Donphan's ability to remove entry hazards from the field. The threat of Draco Meteor will inevitably cause switches, so Stealth Rock of your own is recommended.

Heatran is useful as a partner as Rotom Appliances are common. They are able to switch in on Donphan's attempts to Rapid Spin or Earthquake while threatening it with Will-O-Wisp or Tricking it a Choice item. Heatran takes advantage of both of these conditions, netting a Flash Fire boost from Will-O-Wisp and having no fear of Choice items as it usually carries its own. Unable to do great amounts of damage to Heatran, Rotom Appliances are forced to switch out, or face a boosted Fire Blast.

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Stone Edge / Ice Shard
move 3: Assurance
move 4: Rapid Spin / Seed Bomb
item: Choice Band
nature: Adamant
evs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe

[Set Comments]

Unlike the set above, this takes advantage of Donphan's base 120 Attack stat and high powered STAB move. Even without any investment into the Defense stat, Donphan is still difficult to take down. When played offensively, Donphan is able to damage some of OU's most dangerous threats such as Tyranitar, Swampert, and Metagross. This set provides the best possible type coverage, as nothing resists the combination of Earthquake, Stone Edge and Assurance.

Earthquake is Donphan's most powerful move. With 100 Base Power and a STAB boost, it will be putting a huge dent into anything that doesn't resist it. The second move, Stone Edge, hits Flying-types who are immune to Earthquake. Stone Edge will always 2HKO the standard bulky Gyarados even without taking damage from Stealth Rock. Ice Shard allows Donphan to hit Salamence and Latias for super effective damage, the former having a 4x weakness to it. Assurance allows Donphan to hit Ghost-types who expect you to be using Rapid Spin. Rapid Spin is helpful to rid the field of entry hazards, while Seed Bomb allows Donphan to OHKO the most defensive Swampert.

[Additional Comments]

Max Attack EVs are a must for any offensive Pokemon, and this is no different in Donphan's case. 84 Speed EVs allow Donphan to outrun all neutral natured base 60 Pokemon with no Speed investment, notable ones being Swampert and Blissey. The remaining EVs are placed into HP for Donphan to retain its natural bulk. An alternate EV spread for Donphan is 68 HP / 252 Atk / 188 Spe, which allows it to outspeed all Choice Band Tyranitar that run 96 Speed EVs and OHKO them with Earthquake.

Due to its offensive nature, this set will encounter problems with Pokemon who resist Earthquake and have high Defense stats; Bronzong and Skarmory are some of the most difficult to handle. Both of these threats can be handled by Heatran, as its STAB Fire-type moves make short work of both. Heatran also has the added bonus of being able to switch into Ice- and Grass-type moves aimed at Donphan.

The Rotom Appliances may cause this set problems, although Assurance hits them for super effective damage. However, the fear of being burned by Will-O-Wisp will make Donphan think twice about staying in. Heatran deserves another mention here as it is able to switch into Will-O-Wisp, even Trick with little to no fear, and doesn't take significant damage from Rotom-A's attacks.

Donphan can use the effects of Gravity to its advantage, as Earthquake will hit Flying-types and Pokemon with the Levitate ability like Gengar and Rotom-A, while only being resisted by Heracross, Celebi, and Breloom. Jirachi and Bronzong are great choices as they are able to switch into commonly used Ice-type moves as well as the less common Grass-type moves fired at Donphan.

[Team Options]

As Donphan doesn't have access to a reliable recovery move, Wish support is recommended to increase its survivability. Vaporeon and Latias are fine users of the move as they are able to switch in on Donphan's weaknesses with their great defensive stats while being able to cripple your opponent with moves such as Toxic and Trick, respectively. Vaporeon also has the useful ability Water

Anyone with a special-based Ice-, Grass-, or Water-type move will cause problems for Donphan. The best way to counter this is to have a dedicated special wall such as Blissey; with her whopping base 255 HP stat she is able to switch in on these moves and take little damage. Blissey has a vast support movepool which she can use to hinder the opponent's team for Donphan to shine. Thunder Wave can cripple fast sweepers such as
Gengar so Donphan can outrun and damage them, while Toxic is able to wear down the bulky walls that Donphan hates such as Vaporeon and Suicune.

Heatran is a great option to use in conjunction with Donphan as it is able to switch in on Grass- and Ice-type moves aimed at Donphan with ease and can cause large amounts of damage with Fire Blast. Heatran has another advantage paired with Donphan as it is able to switch in on Absorb, being able to switch in on Pokemon such as Suicune and recover a quarter of its health.
the Rotom Appliances with little trouble, making Will-O-Wisp useless with its Flash Fire ability, and being Tricked a Choice item doesn't hinder it in the slightest. After switching into Will-O-Wisp, Heatran's Fire Blast will be a powerful force which shouldn't be taken lightly. Steel-types who wall the Choice Band set, such as Skarmory and Bronzong, take immense damage from Fire Blast, the former facing an OHKO 100% of the time while the latter taking a minimum of 85% when running the Standard Wall set.

Another option to pair with Donphan is Latias; with her high Special Defense and decent HP stats she is able to switch in on Grass- and Water-type moves with little trouble and threaten the users of such moves with Hidden Power Fire and Thunderbolt, respectively. Latias is able to provide Wish support for Donphan as Donphan is unable to recover its own health without the use of Rest and Sleep Talk, and Wish is also handy for supporting the rest of your teammates. Latias may choose to use Light Screen, aiding Donphan's pitiful Special Defense stat and allowing it to take neutral special hits much better.

[Optional Changes]

Surprisingly, Donphan has a pretty good movepool with numerous options. Charm is a great option to soften physical hits even further, but it is unreliable against opponents such as Metagross and Gliscor with Clear Body and Hyper Cutter, respectively. Body Slam can be utilized on either set as the chance to paralyze the opponent could be helpful with Donphan's awful Speed stat. Counter could be a devaistating surprise for an opponent who thinks they can take out Donphan with boosted attacks, although there is rarely a free moveslot for such a move. A set based around Rock Polish could be used, but Donphan is outclassed by Rhyperior as it doesn't get secondary STAB when using Stone Edge. Fire Fang is an option if you have a weakness to Scizor, but Earthquake does more than enough damage to take care of it. Being Donphan's only way to recover its health, Rest and Sleep Talk are usable if you are desperate enough to use it, although the unreliability of Sleep Talk alongside Earthquake could prove disastrous. Finally, Odor Sleuth is a great option as it allows you to temporarily remove a Ghost-type's immunity to Rapid Spin, allowing you to remove any entry hazards with success.

[Counters]

As most Donphan you will encounter are Rapid Spinners, Ghost-types such as Dusknoir and Rotom-A cause problems for it. Both of them have access to Will-O-Wisp which can burn Donphan, making its physical moves worthless. Dusknoir and Rotom-A can also block any attempt to use Rapid Spin, while Rotom-A is immune to Earthquake with its Levitate ability.

Steel-types immune to Earthquake can wall Donphan, forcing it to switch out or use a weaker alternative move. Bronzong and Skarmory both do a fine job at this, as Bronzong is able to put it to sleep with Hypnosis or in Skarmory's case, use Whirlwind to remove it from the field.

Bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Suicune make excellent counters to Donphan as they take little damage from Eathquake and are able to recover their health with Wish or Rest. Both of these Pokemon can also hit Donphan super effectively with STAB Surf. Suicune's huge HP and Defense stats allow it to survive Earthquake and boost its special stats with Calm Mind.

You should take advantage of Donphan's low Special Defense stat and destroy it with special-based Ice-, Grass-, and Water-type moves. Anything with one of the aformentioned moves that can outspeed Donphan is able to KO it with little worry.

[SET COMMENTS]

Donphan has a great support movepool, including Rapid Spin, which is vital to remove entry hazards that damage your teammates. Donphan's resistance to Stealth Rock means it will take a pitiful 6.25% damage upon switching in. Ice Shard is listed to hit weakened Dragon-types such as Salamence and Latias for super effective damage, the former having a 4x weakness to the move. The final slot gives you a choice to support your teammates,(comma) with Stealth Rock; which allows you to break any Focus Sash users, also weakening your opponent's team possibly opening up a sweep. Roar is an option if you already have entry hazards laid down and wish to shuffle your opponent's team to rack up residual damage. The final option is to run Knock Off, which could potentially ruin an opposing threat. For example, Salamence losing its Life Orb will make all of its moves significantly weaker, allowing you to switch in a counter without the fear of being KOed.

The EVs listed will give Donphan the maximum defensive capability.(period) 252 HP EVs gives you a number that divides by 16, a perfect Leftovers recovery. Max Defense EVs allows you to take repeated hits from the likes of Tyranitar and Scizor with ease while dealing massive damage with STAB Earthquake. The remaining EVs are placed into Attack.

Donphan has a hard time dealing with bulky Water-types that carry special-based moves, such as Suicune and Vaporeon, as well as Grass-types such as Celebi and Roserade. For these reasons, Blissey makes an excellent partner for this set as it can switch in on almost every special-based move in the game with little trouble. It has the added bonus of learning Thunder Wave, which can help with Donphan's pitiful Speed stat.

Another great partner for Donphan is Latias; with its high Special Defense stat, and resistance to Water- and Grass-type moves you will find yourself switching in regularly, which is helped by Donphan's ability to remove entry hazards from the field. The threat of Draco Meteor will inevitably cause switches, so Stealth Rock of your own is recommended. Probably the most important thing to mention here is that Ghost-types such as Dusknoir and Rotom Appliances are able to block Rapid Spin and its effects. Both of these Pokemon have trouble taking hits from Choice Banded Tyranitar, while also having a nasty weakness to Pursuit.

Heatran is useful as a partner as Rotom Appliances are common. They are able to switch in on Donphan's attempt to Rapid Spin or Earthquake while threatening it with Will-O-Wisp or Tricking it a Choice item. Heatran takes advantage of both of these, netting a Flash Fire boost from Will-O-Wisp and having no fear of Choice items as it usually carries its own.
Unlike the above, this set takes advantage of Donphan's base 120 Attack stat and high powered STAB move. Even without any investment into the Defense stat, Donphan is still difficult to take down.

Earthquake is undeniably Donphan's most powerful move. With 100 Base Power and also a STAB boost,(comma) you will be putting a huge dent into anything that doesn't resist it. The second slot is for hitting Flying-types who resist Earthquake.(period) Stone Edge is listed as the primary option as it has a higher base power and the chance to 2HKO the standard bulky Gyarados, while it is unable to do the same in return. Ice Shard is listed if you prefer the priority that it provides, as Donphan's Speed is disappointing, this also allows you to hit Salamence and Latias for super effective damage, the former having a 4x weakness to the move. Assurance is listed as it allows Donphan to hit Ghost-types that expect you to be using Rapid Spin while they get badly damaged in the process. The final slot is a choice between Rapid Spin and Seed Bomb.(period) Rapid Spin is helpful to rid the field of entry hazards, while Seed Bomb allows you to OHKO the most defensive Swampert.

Max Attack EVs are a must for any offensive Pokemon, which is no different for Donphan. 84 Speed EVs allows you to outrun all neutral natured base 60 Pokemon with no Speed investment, noteable ones being Swampert and Blissey. Both of these threats can be handled by Heatran; its STAB Fire-type moves make short work of both. Heatran also has the added bonus of being able to switch into Ice-and Water-type moves aimed at Donphan. Again, Donphan has a tough time dealing with special-based Water-, Grass-, and Ice-types, these include Suicune, Vaporeon,(comma) and Celebi, all of which be stopped cold by any variant of Blissey with her massive HP and Special Defense stats,(comma) although you should watch out for the occasional Swords Dance Celebi. Finally, Latias makes a great offensive partner to this set as it can come in on Grass- and Water-type moves with its handy resistances, Latias can also deal huge amounts of damage to Skarmory with Thunderbolt and Bronzong with Hidden Power Fire, respectively. Rotom Appliances may cause this set problems, although Assurance hits them for super effective damage, the fear of being burned by Will-O-Wisp will make Donphan think twice about staying in. Heatran deserves another mention here as it is able to switch in on Will-O-Wisp, and even Trick with little to fear, while at the same time Rotom is unable to significantly damage Heatran while it can fire off Flash Fire boosted Fire Blasts.

[Team Options]

As Donphan doesn't have a reliable recovery move, Wish support is recommended to increase its survivability. Vaporeon and Latias are fine users of the move as they are able to switch in on Donphan's weaknesses with their great defensive stats while being able to cripple your opponent with moves such as Trick(Latias) and Toxic.
Heatran is a great option to use in conjunction with Donphan as it is able to switch in on Grass- and Water-type moves aimed at Donphan with ease and cause damage with a possible Fire Blast and Hidden Power Electric. Heatran has another advantage paired with Donphan as it is able to switch in on Rotom Appliances with little trouble, making Will-O-Wisp useless with its Flash Fire ability and being Tricked a Choice item doesn't hinder it in the slightest. After switching into Will-O-Wisp, Heatran's Fire Blast will be a powerful force which shouldn't be taken lightly. Being Donphan's only way to recover its health, Rest and Sleep Talk are useable if you are desperate enough to use it, although the unreliability of Sleep talk alongside Earthquake could prove disastrous.

[EVs]

On the Rapid Spin Support set, you will want to maximize Donphan's HP and Defense stats,(comma) which will allow you to take repeated physical hits without being KOed. For the Choice Band set,(comma) max Attack is essential, allowing it to dish out powerful hits. For the Speed EVs you have the choice to run 84 EVs, which would allow you to outrun all neutral base 60 Pokemon, including Swampert and Blissey, or you may choose to run 188 EVs to outspeed Adamant Choice Band Tyranitar. Any remaining EVs can be placed into its HP stat which provides a little extra bulk.

[Opinion]

Donphan makes a fine Rapid Spinner in the Overused tier as it is able to switch in on many common physical attackers and remove the opponents entry hazards while taking only small amounts of damage. Thank you. I changed some obvious ones while you were posting, one or two I'm going to leave for now and see if anybody else mentions them.

I'd definitely mention Assurance somewhere on the first set. One thing that troubles Donphan is Rotom-A, always. While it won't KO, it's going to hit hard thanks to stepping into Stealth Rock and having much better base Atk than Forretress. In fact:

vs. Choice Rotom-A : 65.3% - 77.7%

vs. Standardo Rotom-A : 40.8% - 48.7%

So I'd definitely recommend adding it.

Possibly add Odor Sleuth as an option on the spin set. It has a Foresight like effect which means Donphan can get a safe spin off against Rotom appliances.

I think you should include a mention that you could run 20 or 44 Speed EVs on the Rapid Spin set to outpace Relaxed Swampert and Calm Blissey, respectively. The 20 Spe EVs may be helpful when Swampert has been weakened enough for an Earthquake KO, and the 44 Speed EVs will allow Donphan to hit Blissey before it can use Wish/Ice Beam. You could probably just mention this in EV section or in the SET COMMENTS of the set itself. It's up to you really.

Another thing for the Rapid Spin set: Assurance. Assurance helps Donphan considerably when it comes to dealing with Ghost-types, particularly Gengar and Rotom-A. Since Assurance actually doubles in power (reaches 100) when a Pokemon switches in and takes some sort of damage (Stealth Rock), it can put a huge dent into the Ghost-type. A 100 BP Assurance actually OHKOes Gengar (97.32% - 114.94%) and 2HKOes Timid Rotom-A (65.56% - 78.01%). In fact, Donphan can actually defeat Timid Rotom-A, as it can be picked off with Ice Shard (13.69% - 16.18%). I think Assurance should be on the last slot. I guess the move order would be this:

move 4: Assurance / Stealth Rock / Roar

With Knock Off put into the SET COMMENTS rather than taking up a slash. Assurance can go behind Stealth Rock if you think Stealth Rock is more important.

Nice job on the analysis, September!

Colonel, I added it as the primary option as Rotom-A is a bigger threat (yes, we already talked on IRC, but worth a mention here).

YTP, I added it under other options.

Fuzzy, I added the Speed option under set comments, the issue with Assurance was sorted with Colonel.

Thanks everyone :)

If anyone has ever used a more offensive spread with the Spinner Donphan, I'd like to hear about it. From a personal standpoint I think it would work very well. It would help net more damage against the Rotom-As and STAB EQ is nothing to scoff at if you don't levitate.

Yeah i totally agree, the only reason why I would spin with Donphan is because it has a high Attack stat. The UU version is a very efficient spread for spinning on Ghost-types.

I would go for two options, take note that this is in Adamant nature:

252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 Def or 252 HP / 190 Atk / 62 Def

190 Attack vs. 252 hp / 0 def scarf rotom - 67.1% - 79.6%
190 Attack vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Scarf rotom - 84.3% - 100%
190 Attack vs. standard Rotom - 52% - 61.8%
252 Atk vs. 4 HP / 0 def Scarf Rotom - 88.4% - 104.1% (OHKO with SR down)
252 Atk vs. 252 hp / 0 def scarf rotom - 70.4% - 82.9%
252 Atk vs. standard Rotom -
55.3% - 65.1%

---

190 Attack allows donphan to tank hits while dish out damage with Assurance. It will always 2HKO standard Rotom with Assurance with Stealth Rock down plus Leftovers recovery. 252 Atk allows Donphan to immedietly OHKO Scarf Rotom (0 HP / 4 Def) versions off the bat with Assurance assuming Stealth Rock is down.

I don't think Donphan needs a fully defensive spread with 252 hp / 252 def. I think an offensive spread would be best for Donphan in the OU environment so it actually spins well.

Also, in certain situations where it has to combat other spinners, 252 Atk would be the better spread.

252 Atk vs. standard dusknoir - 34.7% - 40.8% (3hko with sr down)
old spread vs. standard Dusknoir -
25.9% - 30.6% (4-5hko)

---

The other comment I would make is fixing the slashes.

Earthquake
Assurance
Rapid Spin
Stealth Rock / Ice Shard / Roar

Assurance is obviously needed to smack Rotoms while the last option is layed out depending on what Donphan plans to do. I would dismiss Knock Off and give it a mention along with Stone Edge to hit opposing Gyarados and Flying-types.

Right, thanks OmegaDonut, I did mean Ice there, silly error.

j.franky, I used your 252 HP / 188 Atk / 68 Def (I assume that's what you meant) spread for the Rapid Spin set and changed the slashes. I also reworded the EVs sections and set comments to match the new spread and nature. Unless there is anything else, this is finished.

Was skimming through this again and found this:

It should say Swampert and Blissey's a girl so you could say "she" there.

Rapid Spin Support

Donphan has a great support movepool, including Rapid Spin, which is vital to removing entry hazards that damage your Pokemon. Donphan's resistance to Stealth Rock means it will take a pitiful 6.25% damage upon switching in. Its great HP and Defense stats allow Donphan to tank physical hits reasonably well, while its respectable Attack stat will allow it to dish out powerful hits simultaniously. Opponents such as Tyranitar, Metagross, and Scizor are unable to do large amounts of damage to Donphan, making it a fine choice to set up and (it won't be setting up anything barring Stealth Rock, right?) remove entry hazards from the field.

Rapid Spin is a staple on this set and allows Donphan to rid the field of all entry hazards. Earthquake is Donphan's most powerful STAB move, which allows it to hit Lucario and Metagross (Donphan's Earthquake does not OHKO 252 HP Metagross), while neither are able to KO Donphan in return. Assurance is listed as the primary option in the third slot, as it allows Donphan to hit Rotom-A for super effective damage. This is helpful as Rotom-A can block Donphan's Rapid Spin attempts. The final slot gives Donphan a choice to support its teammates with Stealth Rock; this breaks the Sash any Focus Sash users, and also weakens your opponent's team, possibly opening up a sweep. Roar is an option if you already have entry hazards laid down and wish to shuffle your opponent's team to rack up residual damage. Ice Shard is listed as the secondary option to hit weakened Dragon-types such as Salamence and Latias for super effective damage, the former having a 4x weakness to the move. (since Ice Shard is the second choice as opposed to Roar, I would maybe talk about it before you discuss Roar?)

The EVs listed will give Donphan the maximum defensive capability. 252 HP EVs gives it a number that divides by 16, also known as a Leftovers number (maximum Leftovers recovery). 188 Attack EVs will allow Donphan to OHKO a standard Choice Scarf Rotom Appliance with Assurance after Stealth Rock, while being able to 2HKO most standard defensive versions. The remaining EVs are placed into Defense to give Donphan greater tanking ability. Using 44 Speed EVs is an option if you would like to outspeed Relaxed nature Swampert before it can use Ice Beam, or Calm Blissey before she has the chance to use Wish.

Donphan has a hard time dealing with bulky Water-type Pokemon that carry specially-based moves, such as Suicune and Vaporeon, as well as Grass-type Pokemon such as Celebi and Roserade. For these reasons, Blissey makes an excellent partner for this set as she can switch in on almost every specially-based move in the game with little trouble. She (people always forget, Blissey are 100% female!) has the added bonus of learning Thunder Wave, which can help compensate for Donphan's pitiful Speed stat. Another great partner for Donphan is Latias; with her (another all-female Pokemon) high Special Defense stat and resistance to Water- and Grass-type moves you will find yourself switching her in regularly; this is helped by Donphan's ability to remove entry hazards from the field. The threat of Draco Meteor will inevitably cause switches, so Stealth Rock of your own is recommended. Probably the most important thing to mention here is that Ghost-types such as Dusknoir and Rotom Appliances are able to block Rapid Spin and its effects. Ghost-type Pokemon have trouble taking hits from Choice Banded Tyranitar, while also having a nasty weakness to Pursuit. (add space)Heatran is useful as a partner as Rotom Appliances are common.

Choice Band

Unlike the above, This set takes advantage of Donphan's base 120 Attack stat and high powered STAB move. Even without any investment into the Defense stat, Donphan is still difficult to take down.

Earthquake is undeniably Donphan's most powerful move. With 100 Base Power and an STAB boost, it will be putting a huge dent into anything that doesn't resist it. The second slot is for hitting Flying-types who resist Earthquake. Stone Edge is listed as the primary option in the second slot as it has a higher base power and a chance to 2HKO the standard bulky Gyarados, while it is unable to do the same in return. Ice Shard is listed if you prefer the priority that it provides, as Donphan's Speed is disappointing. This also allows Donphan to hit Salamence and Latias for super effective damage, the former having a 4x weakness to the move. Assurance is listed as it allows Donphan to hit Ghost-types that expect you to be using Rapid Spin while they get badly damaged in the process. The final slot is a choice between Rapid Spin and Seed Bomb. Rapid Spin is helpful to rid the field of entry hazards, while Seed Bomb allows Donphan to OHKO the most defensive Swampert.

Due to its offensive nature, this set will encounter problems with Pokemon that resist Earthquake and have high Defense stats; Bronzong and Skarmory are some of the most difficult to handle. Both of these threats can be handled by Heatran, as its STAB Fire-type moves make short work of them. Heatran also has the added bonus of being able to switch into Ice- and Water-type moves aimed at Donphan. Again, Donphan has a tough time dealing with specially-based Water-, Grass-, and Ice-types. These include Suicune, Vaporeon, and Celebi, all of which be stopped cold by any variant of Blissey with her massive HP and Special Defense stats, although you should watch out for the occasional Swords Dance Celebi (SD Celebi is virtually extinct so I dont think its worth a mention). Finally, Latias makes a great offensive partner to this set as she can come in on Grass- and Water-type moves with her handy resistances. Latias can also deal huge amounts of damage to Skarmory with Thunderbolt and Bronzong with Hidden Power Fire, respectively. Rotom Appliances may cause this set problems, and although Assurance hits them for super effective damage, the fear of being burned by Will-O-Wisp will make Donphan think twice about staying in. Heatran deserves another mention here as it is able to switch in on Will-O-Wisp and even Trick with little to no fear, while at the same time Rotom-A is unable to significantly damage Heatran while it can fire off Flash Fire boosted Fire Blasts.

Good job :] Will edit team options etc. later today possibly.

I would give Gravity support a mention in the Team Options section for the CB set. Under Gravity, Earthquake is even deadlier than a Dragon attack, having no immunities and only 2 resistances (the only Bug who resists Ground in OU is Heracross, and for Grass it's only Breloom & Celebi), but at the same time, hitting 5 types super effectively. Also, it deals with Rotom-A and all the other annoying Levitators in OU. It doesn't need to have a mention in the main Team Options, but it really helps out the CB set if it's used on a Gravity team.

You added it to Opinion heheh :P

Snorlaxe, most of your changes were made but I don't agree with a few of them so I didn't change.

Bologo, I'll work something in.

The sentence with all the edits was a terror to understand. I think the changes will help it become more readable.

I think that you need something to add with the first bold. This is definitely not the maximum defensive capability Donphan can have since using Impish 252 HP/252 Def is that. I think you want to add in "maximum defensive capability available while keeping its offense strong" or something along those lines at the end of the first sentence.

Missing capitalizations.

The second part is mildly confusing. Is it talking about Gyarados being unable to "do the same in return" which is a 2HKO? Against this Adamant natured no Defense EV Donphan, the standard RestTalk Gyarados still manages a complete 2HKO on this Donphan with Waterfall. I think you should just scrap these words out. It'll make things less wordy too.

Semi-colon was misused.

Typo of "her" from "here".

Run-on sentence needed a stop. Sentence was turning into a junkyard anyways with that length.

As Donphan doesn't have access to a reliable recovery move, Wish support is recommended to increase its survivability. Vaporeon and Latias are fine users of the move as they are able to switch in on Donphan's weaknesses with their great defensive stats while being able to cripple your opponent with moves such as Trick (space) (Latias) and Toxic. Vaporeon also has the useful ability of Water Absorb, being able to switch in on Pokemon such as Suicune and recover a quarter of its health.

Spacing problem is all.

Team Options said:

Anything with a special-based Ice-, Grass-, or Water-type move will cause problems for Donphan. The best way to counter this is to have a dedicated special wall such as Blissey; (semi-colon instead of comma) with her whopping base 255 HP stat she is able to switch in on these moves taking little damage. Blissey has a vast support movepool which she can use to hinder the opponent's team. Thunder Wave can cripple fast sweepers such as Roserade, while Toxic is able to wear down bulky walls such as Vaporeon and Suicune.

Run-on sentence.

Team Options said:

Heatran is a great option to use in conjunction with Donphan as it is able to switch in on Grass- and Ice-type moves aimed at Donphan with ease and can cause large amounts of damage with Fire Blast. Steel-types that wall the Choice Band set, such as Skarmory and Bronzong, take immense damage from Fire Blast, the former facing an OHKO 100% of the time while the latter taking a minimum of 85% when running the Standard Wall set.

Needs an "s" at the end of "amounts" here.

"such as" needs to be added before the "Skarmory and Bronzong" part. It just doesn't sound right without the addition of these words. They help refer to and introduce those two Pokemon, who just pop out of nowhere without the help.

Other Options said:

Surprisingly, Donphan has a pretty good movepool with numerous options. Charm is a great option to soften physical hits even further, but it is unreliable against opponents such as Metagross and Gliscor with Clear Body and Hyper Cutter abilities. Body Slam can be utilized on either set as the chance to paralyze the opponent could be helpful with Donphan's awful Speed stat. Counter could be a devistating surprise for an opponent who thinks they can take out Donphan with boosted attacks, although there is rarely a free moveslot for such a move. A set based around Rock Polish could be used, but Donphan is way too slow to make good use out of it. Finally, Odor Sleuth is a great option as it allows you to temporarily remove a Ghost-type's immunity to Rapid Spin, allowing you to remove any entry hazards.

Over at the first bold, I'd just like to comment and see if you may change the wording of it. Donphan has base 50 Speed while Rhyperior has base 40 Speed. Rhyperior has a Rock Polish set, so I don't think Donphan is "way too slow" to make good use out of it. I guess outclassed and lack of secondary STAB are the wrap ups for why Donphan shouldn't really be considered to be your Rock Polisher.

"usable" > "useable"

"Odor" > "Odour"

Ghost-type's is of belonging to in this case, and it's referring to its immunity.

Needs the addition of the " ' " for "opponent's" since it's of belonging to that's being used here.

I think this paragraph is turning into a Blissey analysis.

I'd go for a different example here imo. Roserade has Natural Cure so it's not really crippled, but walled (unless Toxic Spikes is in play). Maybe Latias can fit in as it gets cripple by Thunder Wave nicely.

"with" makes the flow better.

I think it wants "immune" here not "resist".

Steel-types that resist Earthquake can wall Donphan, forcing it to switch out or use a weaker alternative move. Bronzong and Skarmory both do a fine job at this, as Bronzong is able to put it to sleep with Hypnosis or in Skarmory's case, use Whirlwind to remove it from the field.

Just Bronzong for Hypnosis.

[OVERVIEW]

Donphan makes a fine Rapid Spinner in the OU environment as it is able to switch in on many common physical attackers and remove the opponent's entry hazards with Rapid Spin, while taking only small amounts of damage in the process. The lack of a reliable recovery move and a low Special Defense stat is disheartening, as Donphan has great HP, Attack, and Defense stats which it can put to good use. Ghost-types that attempt to block Rapid Spin are not a huge problem for Donphan as it can hit them with Assurance.
[SIZE=+1]

move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Assurance
move 4: Stealth Rock / Ice Shard / Roar
item: Leftovers
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 188 Atk / 68 Def

[Set Comments]

Donphan has a great support movepool, including Rapid Spin, which is vital for removing entry hazards that damage your teammates. Donphan's resistance to Stealth Rock means it will take a pitiful 6.25% damage upon switching in. Its great HP and Defense stats allow Donphan to take physical hits reasonably well, while its respectable [Base 120 Attack is respectable?] Attack stat allows it to dish out powerful hits simultaniously. Opponents such as Tyranitar, Metagross, and Scizor are unable to do large amounts of damage to Donphan, making it a fine choice to remove entry hazards from the field.

Rapid Spin allows Donphan to remove all entry hazards [Just omit this sentence, you already said Donphan can remove entry hazards.].

Donphan has a hard time dealing with bulky Water- and Grass-types that carry special-based moves, such as Suicune and Celebi, respectively.

Probably the most important thing to mention here is that Ghost-types such as Dusknoir and Rotom-A are able to block Rapid Spin and its effects. Both of these Pokemon have trouble taking hits from Choice Band Tyranitar, while also having a nasty weakness to Pursuit.

I don't know if the above paragraph is necessary. You said that Assurance takes care of Ghost-types, but then you are saying Ghosts are a problem.

Heatran is useful as a partner as the Rotom Appliances are common. The second move, Stone Edge, hits Flying-types who resist Earthquake super effectively, almost 2HKOing the standard bulky Gyarados [With SR?]. Ice Shard allows Donphan to hit Salamence and Latias for super effective damage, the former having a 4x weakness to it. Assurance allows Donphan to hit Ghost-types that expect you to be using Rapid Spin. In the last slot, Rapid Spin is helpful to rid the field of entry hazards, while Seed Bomb allows Donphan to OHKO the most defensive Swampert.

Due to its offensive nature, this set will encounter problems with Pokemon that resist Earthquake and have high Defense stats; Bronzong and Skarmory are some of the most difficult to handle. Latias can also deal huge amounts of damage to Skarmory and Vaporeon with Thunderbolt and Bronzong with Hidden Power Fire.

[Why are these a problem? Donphan isn't supposed to be tanking, it's supposed to be spamming powerful hits. Even though these Pokemon may be able to survive a hit and threaten Donphan (though they'll take a heft hit from Earthquake and from Assurance in Celebi's case), it doesn't necessarily mean you need to find teammates for helping that.

Donphan can use the effects of Gravity to its advantage, as Earthquake will hit Flying-types and Pokemon with the Levitate ability, while only being resisted by Heracross, Celebi, and Breloom. Jirachi and Bronzong are great choices as they are able to switch into commonly used Ice-type moves as well as the less common Grass-type moves fired at Donhpan.

[You can say that Gravity helps Donphan hit Gengar and Rotom-A super effectively.

Vaporeon also has the useful ability Water Absorb, being able to switch in on Pokemon such as Suicune and recover a quarter of its health.

Heatran has another advantage paired with Donphan as it is able to switch in on the Rotom Appliances with little trouble, making Will-O-Wisp useless with its Flash Fire ability, and being Tricked a Choice item doesn't hinder it in the slightest. After switching into Will-O-Wisp, Heatran's Fire Blast will be a powerful force which shouldn't be taken lightly. Steel-types that wall the Choice Band set, such as Skarmory and Bronzong, take immense damage from Fire Blast, the former facing an OHKO 100% of the time while the latter taking a minimum of 85% when running the Standard Wall set.

Another option to pair with Donphan is Latias; with her high Special Defense and HP [Her HP isn't really high, 80 is pretty average] stats she is able to switch in on Grass- and Water-type moves with little trouble and threaten the users of such moves with Hidden Power Fire and Thunderbolt, respectively.

You may choose to run 188 Speed EVs on the Choice Band set to outspeed Adamant Choice Band Tyranitar, then KO it with Earthquake.

I think you already said that you can run 188 Speed EVs.

You should take advantage of Donphan's low Special Defense stat and destroy it with special-based Ice-, Grass-, and Water-type moves. Anything with one of the aformentioned moves that can outspeed Donphan is able to KO it with little worry.

Wonderful job September. :)

Just a nitpick:

Steel-types that resist Earthquake can wall Donphan, forcing it to switch out or use a weaker alternative move.
Technically, it's impossible for a steel type to actually "resist" Earthquake. I think you should say immune instead of resist, as this also fits with your examples (Skarmory and Bronzong).
