Look familiar? Once again Feraligatr is imitating Gyarados by making use of the DD-Flail combination. While it may seem to be inferior to Gyarados, the main selling point of this over Gyarados is that Feraligatr has Torrent to boost its Water STAB. With Torrent boosting the power of Waterfall, a 200 Base Power normal move in Flail, and typically a +2 or +3 boost to its Attack stat and you are talking about a deadly sweeper. The idea is to bring this in on something that Feraligatr can force out, such as Heatran, and set up a Substitute on the switch, Dragon Dance, and then Substitute down to activate the berry of choice and Torrent. From there, you can proceed to sweep with great Speed and Attack.

While the set seems simple enough to use, it does require support to be effective. The combination of Stealth Rock, Spikes, and most problematic Toxic Spikes can ruin this entire set up. So, a Rapid Spinner should be used alongside this set. A Rain Dancer wouldn't be a bad choice either since Sandstream or Hail will hinder your sweep.

The choice between a Liechi Berry or a Salac Berry is a matter of personal preference and also comes down to what you want to outrun. It is recommended that if you opt for a Jolly nature that you use a Liechi Berry and a Salac Berry if you opt for Adamant. In the case of the Liechi Berry, a Jolly nature after 1 Speed boost will allow you to outrun all Pokemon bar Deoxys-S not holding a Choice Scarf and it will outrun all neutral nature base 80 Speed Pokemon holding a Choice Scarf. If one opts for an Adamant nature with a Salac Berry you will reach a Speed stat of 510, enough to outrun Adamant Choice Scarf Dugtrio and anything slower.

This set functions almost identically to the DD Flail set, but this is actually something that Gyarados cannot do. The ability for Feraligatr to use Sword Dance gives this massive sweeping potential. Unfortunately, without Dragon Dance, Feraligatr is only guaranteed to have +1 Speed from the Salac Berry; which can limit its sweeping potential. However, the sheer power of this set makes it a worthwhile consideration for any team.

[Counters]

Leafeon, Tangrowth and Celebi can take an Ice Punch from Feraligatr and attack with strong Grass moves. Shaymin-S can outrun Adamant Feraligatr even after a Dragon Dance and bring it down with Seed Flare, however it can be outrun and OHKO'd by Ice Punch if Feraligatr is Jolly. Zapdos can do the same with Thunderbolt. Jolteon can outspeed Feraligatr even after a single Dragon Dance (unless it's Jolly) and KO with Thunderbolt. Skarmory is a pain for Feraligatr unless it gets timely Waterfall flinches. Weezing is a problem thanks to its high Defense and access to Thunderbolt and Will-O-Wisp. Suicune can Roar away Feraligatr's stat boosts without taking much damage. Empoleon beats any set that lacks Earthquake with Grass Knot. Gyarados can handle him well unless Feraligatr has Rock Slide.

Possessive.

Sounds better.
