Ghost only hits two types for super effective ( Psychic, Ghost ) so lets take a look at the OU psychic threats.
- Alakazam
- Azelf
These are the main psychic threats in the game as both of them are just like gengar and able to dish out serious pain.

You forgot Scarf Medicham and Scarf Gallade. Both are BL, sure, but then again, so is Alakazam.

Yeah but those really aren't threats cause they're with scarfs.. normally gengar outspeeds and ohkos both of them, Really don't wanna do damage calcs for everyone who can use psychic and a choice scarf :/

Gengar's poison typing certainly does help more than hurt, what with STAB Sludge Bomb, Poison immunity and the like.

STAB Sludge Bomb isn't really a pro when Poison is the worse attacking type in the game. But other than that, I do <3 part Poison Gengar.

4x Bug Resist and 4x Poison resist. Gengar likes to resist moves. I thought he had a 4x Grass resist, he doesn't, but Poison allows him to resist it. yah, Poison with Levitate is great defensively, as shown by Weezing.

Being part Poison definitely helps Gengar, since it has levitate. If Gengar didn't have levitate, then being part Poison would hurt since Earthquake is the most common attack in the game.
