I]"Welcome to Ring Town, home to the new Grass Gym!"[/I]

Fiore never expected these words to exist on one of its signs, especially in a region where Pokémon aren't used for battling, but more as help or pets. Still, you wondered what kind of maniac would run a gym in a small town like that, so you ask someone for directions to it. All they tell you is to 'follow the enigmatic path', and while cryptic, someone else told you that the gym itself was in Lyra Forest. Confident in your adventuring abilities, you venture in the forest, following a path that lead to the gym in question.

The path to it seemed straightforward. A couple of twists here and there, but nothing too serious. As you reach the spot where the Grass Gym is said to lie in, you don't really see anything. It's a pretty beaten down path. But before you can take in the scenery, a swarm of Vileplume approach you. You reach for your Pokéballs and/or companions, but are soon knocked out by the Sleep Powders.

...

You wake up in a beautiful part of the forest, several Enigma Berry bushes around, grass at your feet. You're sure this isn't the same place you fell asleep in. You bring out your Pokéballs and/or your companions, but someone swoops in from a nearby tree, landing right next to you!

"Hey, how's it going?"

You take a step back, not in fear, but in shock.

"Who are you? What is this place?"

"Name's Lionel, and you're in the Fiore Ring Town Gym!"

"Gym? But I thought the gym was in that dusty part of the forest!"

"Heh, sorry about that. The Vileplume think it's funny to make the gym in a more secret part of the forest, so I roll with the little trap. Plus, you wouldn't want to hurt the forest by giving away the place, would you?"

"Guess not, it's pretty beautiful here."

The odd man doesn't have Pokéballs on him, but before you ask him about it, a Chesnaught and a Gogoat join him.

"Are those yours?"

"Yeah! They've been with me since the beginning! Finn here especially."

Other Grass Pokémon join him, of all shapes and sizes.

"So, guess you're here for a challenge, right?"

You nod silently.

"Then I, Lionel String of the Forest, accept your challenge!"

Restrictions:
Natural Water, Grass and Rocks available.

Effects:
-The grass seems to take in water very well. Water Sport has a duration of nine (9) actions instead of six and costs one (1) less Energy.

-The sun is shining, but not overly so. Default weather is Spring Sunlight. During Spring Sunlight, all of the effects of Sun occur, except for changes in the BAP of Fire and Water-typed moves. The weather may only change with weather-changing abilities, or by a weather move used by a Pokémon holding an appropriate weather rock.

-The gravity seems to be heavier here, but you're not quite sure why. Gravity is always intensified. Using Gravity will remove the effect for four (4) rounds before intensifying again.

Codifications:
-Nature Power calls Stun Spore.
-Secret Power has a 30% chance of Paralysis.
-Camouflage turns the user into a Grass-type.
-Arena Type: Grass

Canis Majoris's team

Pyroak [Charles] (Male)

<Necturna> [Denise] (Female)
"There are absolutely no tricks here. Honestly, what do you take me for?"
Desperation Theme: ASK - Ride Out
Shy but powerful, Denise keeps to herself as often as possible. She has been seen conversing with Emily and Sierra, but not much else.
As a Necturna, she often lures people, friend or foe, into a false sense of security, before Sadie pranks them well.

<Roserade> [Elena] (Female)
"I'm perfect, absolutely perfect!"
Desperation Theme: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - Burning Depths
Lionel caught Elena during a large grassland catch spree. She's quick on her feet and on her mouth.
While her outer beauty has increased as a Roselia, her inner beauty has not, and she continues to complain and insult others, much to her teammates' chagrin.
As a Roserade... she has not changed much, if at all. Though she has learned a powerful attack in the form of Weather Ball.

<Cradily> [Merlon] (Male)
"Quiet down! Even a Cradily needs some beauty sleep."
Desperation Theme: Soul Calibur II - Raise Thy Sword
Revived in the Rustboro labs and then given to Lionel, Merlon keeps a positive attitude on things... even if the constant feuding between Lyra and Elena get on his nerves.
Now a Cradily, others find it harder to fight when he's around, in fear of disturbing the peace and quiet of a Pokemon that was stuck as a fossil for a few thousands of years. After all, while he's slow to move, he's not slow to attack.

Lyra's a Snover you could call "ironic", as she likes the heat more than any other of Lionel's Pokemon. She's often aggravated by Elena's constant bickering.

"Ouch, what a headache... wait, what is this place? It's so beautiful!... Oh, right, I'm sorry, I was so lost in thought! My name is Shauntal, and on behalf of the ASB Gym League I am here to chronicle this match between one of its leaders and a challenger - who, by the way, also happens to be a leader himself!"

"On one side, Canis brought some of the most gorgeous Grass-type Pokemon I have ever seen. *looks at Ferrothorn* Hey, I said "some", didn't I? None of them looks particularly fast, but to be honest, I feel a bit clumsy myself in this eerie glade. Despite this, they are sure to cause some mischief at the slightest opportunity - good thing I brought my Safety Glasses with me!"

"On the other side, Maxim showed up with a variety of choices, trying to nail most of the Grass-type's various weaknesses - although I despise the lack of Ice-type, they're so charming and... oh, don't care about me. Where was I, again? Oh, right. That Braviary is surprisingly familiar, I believe I saw it performing in Maxim's own gym a few times. On the other hand, Dragalge is a new sight to me, yet it looks deceptively powerful - I'm so intrigued!"

"This will be an inspiring story! Would you mind if I used you and your Pokemon as a subject?"

Castform? Not sure if you're an insane genius or just insane.

"Hey, man, don't diss. Ferrothorn are cool. They stick to walls and stuff.
Oh well, when in doubt, trust the green of the grass! Denise, Merlon, let's start this off with a bang!"

"All right, here we go again, another shot at what should be an easy badge. Jenga and Algaeon, get out there and show them what you're made of!"

Dragonite: Icy Wind~Fire Punch (Necturna)~Hurricane (Necturna)
[Do Once] If Skill Swap directed at you, then use Protect and push actions back.
If Necturna uses a successful P/E move, then use Ice Punch (Cradily) that action.

Toggle Poison Touch: OFF
Dragalge: Sludge Bomb (Necturna)~Venoshock (Necturna)~Sludge Bomb (Necturna)
If Necturna uses a successful P/E move and Cradily is NOT using Mirror Coat that action, then use Focus Blast (Cradily) that action.
If Necturna is poisoned when you are to move AND you are Not under the effects of Torment, then use Venoshock (Necturna) for all remaining actions.

"Fingers Crossed!"

Note to self: use =/= is under the effects of
Also, pushing back is a thing.
Fun fact: Sludge Bomb is neutral on Necturna due to Ghost type, though I guess that doesn't really matter with Adaptability nevermind it does, 9 damage from Venoshock LOL
Slowing seems like a good idea for more protection.
If things all go no hax, then this round should be going as follows: Necturna takes 25.5 damage (26), Cradily takes no damage, Dragalge takes a pitiful amount of (4) damage but is slowed, Dragonite takes 20 damage and loses Multiscale protection. I lose the damage race by 2, but SR is set up, Dragalge is slowed and my mons are not. Fair trade.
Actually, let's change it up a bit.

"Might ain't always right, yo! Show the drakes how it's done, you two!"

Necturna: Protect (Cradily) > Super Fang (Dragonite) > Protect (Cradily)

I love when Ghost-types defy their bad reputation and show how much they care for their friends and allies! In this circumstance, Denise repeatedly shield Merlon with her own power, and while she does seem tired after this performance, this allowed the Cradily to set up rocky hazards on the other side of the field and a dummy shield shaped after himself... completely unscathed!

On the other hand, though, Maxim's dragons do not incur any major damage. Jenga has been significantly maimed by Denise's vicious bite, yes, but Algaeon looks still in top shape. I can't wait to see how this story will unfold!

LoA though I finally got it fixed. (Also use tags pls?)
Also, if I got DQ'd, I don't think you would have gotten the badge if it was right now, but whatever.
Also also, why didn't this save my draft? God damnit.

Looks like Canis decided to bring in an Ice-type against the opponent's dragons... nice choice, I guess! Now to draw out an umbrella to cover myself against these annoying ice pebbles...

Now, where was I? Oh look, that's one hot stream of flames Maxim's Dragonite just shot at Canis's Abomasnow! But rather than retaliating, Lyra decides to shield itself behind a substitute - it looks like Canis's careful style is at play, here. His Cradily, on the other hand, takes advantage of the safety of its own Substitute to smack Jenga unscathed. As for Maxim's Dragalge... whoa, Golurk, come out and fly us both to safety!

Whew, that sure was one huge wave of toxic water right there! Canis's Pokemon seem to have managed to avoid its effects thanks to their substitutes taking the blunt of the attack, though. But the same cannot be said about Jenga - she looks in really bad shape. In fact, she decides to rest for a moment while her team mate recovers from the previous effort, but Canis's Abomasnow smacks them both with a frigid storm! Oww, it looks like Maxim's Dragonite was turned into solid ice, this does not look good for him at all! Meanwhile, Merlon keep smacking the frozen dragon mercilessly.

As expected, Jenga can't manage to act, and this allows Lyra to finish her off with a ray of pure ice! But Maxim's Dragalge pays back with a globe of pressured sludge which leaves quite a mark on the Abomasnow, although Canis's Cradily now is free to blast it with a sequence of land explosions.

So, what to say? Canis managed to snatch an early lead, but Maxim still have some tricks up his sleeve. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Castform: Blizzard~Flamethrower (Abomasnow)~Blizzard
If Abomasnow is under the effects of a successful P/E move when you are to move, then Ice Beam (Cradily) that action and push actions back.
If Mirror Coat AND you are targeting Cradily with a single target move, then use Substitute (15 HP) on the first instance, Toxic (Cradily) on the second, and Thunder Wave (Cradily) on the third.
KO: If Abomasnow is knocked out when you are to move, then alternate Weather Ball (Cradily)~Ice Beam (Cradily) for all remaining actions.

Emboar: Heat Crash (Abomasnow)~Flare Blitz (Abomasnow)~Heat Crash (Abomasnow)
If Abomasnow is under the effects of a successful P/E move when you move, then Heavy Slam (Cradily) that action and push actions back.
If Light Screen is up on the opposing side's team when you move, then use Brick Break (Abomasnow) that action and push back.
KO: If Abomasnow is knocked out when you are to move, then alternate Brick Break (Cradily)~Heavy Slam (Cradily) for all remaining actions.
KO: If Abomasnow is knocked out AND you are to use your second sub, then use Brick Break (Cradily) that action and push back.

I'm going to take a hiatus.
Yes, this means I forfeit on everything (and resign as Grass GL, wow, short lived).

No, I don't care that you bet on me to win against Ascher.
Well, okay, I'll finish that and the AB because Lad deserves better.

But otherwise, I plan on taking a break from the game itself for some time. ASB has burnt me out (as did another game that I played for a very long time until I suddenly stopped). I need to try new things.

I'll still be on IRC at times, so if you want to chat me up when I'm there, I won't mind. If you want to ask me ASB stuff, I won't mind either. But I won't do your battles.
So I guess wrap this up?

That means I get the badge amirite?

Match cancelled since to vanishing leader. After one round, no badge awarded.

Since this was technically a DQ, you may use ONE AND ONLY ONE of the following,

  • Queue Jump - the player's next gym match where they are the challenger will take the highest priority in the Gym Queue, in front of all other reffings.
  • Temporary 3rd Gym Slot - The player can, at one point, challenge a gym when they have two challenges active or queued, effectively having three gym battles concurrently.

We apologise for the inconcenience.

OK, so....

We (me + df44 + texas) talked a little and we decided to give a third option in the case of DQ due to the leader quitting:

  • Continue the match - the player continues the match where it was with one of the Gym Committee members playing the role of the Gym Leader. Same team, same thread, same everything. We just may not use the ex-leader's sprite, because it would be just wrong.

Please pick one of the three options on your earliest convenience.

I think I'll go ahead and take the Queue Jump, keep it in storage for when the gym queue fills up again. Not too confident about my chances in this match.
