As Stunfisk and Crustle continue to face off, Stunfisk attacks Crustle with Earthquake. The attack seemed pretty weak though. Why not just use Thunderbolt? Either way, Crustle responds with Counter... which was also pretty weak. Why not just use Earthquake? Oh well, I'm not the one battling. I'm sure they have their own reasons. But in a large battle, I think efficiency is even more important than normal, and whichever battler capitalizes on it will probably be the winner.

Stunfisk douses Crustle yet again with Scald. Somehow Crustle has managed to avoid getting burned yet again, though with Scald's high effect chance it's really only a matter of time. It appears Crustle is not dismayed, as it continues to support its team with Spikes. With all these entry hazards thrown up, Matezoide is at a very big disadvantage. His only Pokemon capable of removing them is Spinda, but against akela's plethora of Rock-types, Spinda isn't the best choice.

Stunfisk prepares to attack again, but before it can Crustle erects a barrier using Protect! The barrier shields it from Stunfisk's next Scald, and obviously preventing it from being burned. Is stalling really going to help though? Crustle spend more energy shielding itself than Stunfisk did attacking, and now akela will have to order first again. We'll see what he has up his sleeve.

Crustle and Stunfisk continue to duke it out. Stunfisk uses Earth Power to deal some minor damage to Crustle. Crustle has the same strategy, and uses Earthquake to disrupt the ground around Stunfisk. It looks like Stunfisk was caught off guard by this, and the attack scores a critical hit! As a whole, it looks like Crustle is the one in the losing position here. It definitely outdamaged Stunfisk in that exchange, but it's taken a lot of hits in the last couple rounds without dishing that many back. I'm not sure that it can manage to hang in much longer.

Stunfisk prepares to volley Crustle with another attack, but Crustle uses Protect again to shield itself. This stops Stunfisk's Scald from hitting, probably allowing Crustle to survive this round. Hmm... if Matezoide had switched the order of attacks, this Protect wouldn't have worked and Crustle would have just taken the attack without doing anything. Still, I'm sure he has some plan in mind...

Stunfisk pummels Crustle with a second Earth Power, and Crustle cries out. It looks like it's very low on HP, and another attack would finish it off. I guess Crustle doesn't want to go down without making a splash though, as it uses Spikes again to completely coat Matezoide's side of the field with the hazard. That'll really hurt if Matezoide doesn't remove them quickly.

Stunfisk prepares to finish Crustle off. Before it can do that though, Crustle toughens itself with Endure! We saw Granbull use this same tactic earlier. Will Matezoide be able to bypass it? Stunfisk launches a Thunderbolt, but Crustle manages to barely hang on. I don't think Stunfisk has any moves that can reliably break the Endure. It looks like this was a great play by akela!

Stunfisk continues to try to bring Crustle down, this time with Earth Power. It doesn't seem to be working though, as Crustle stands its ground and just and takes a moment to Chill. That seems like an odd choice. You'd think it'd be best to press the advantage this round, but maybe akela has something different in mind. Both battlers sure are coming up with interesting tactics!

Another Thunderbolt zaps Crustle, but Crustle still remains standing. How impressive! Crustle attacks back with Earthquake, sending Stunfisk reeling back. Still, Stunfisk looks like it has plenty of HP left. It does look like it could faint due to energy exhaustion though. On the other hand, Crustle is quite worn out in both departments. With the trump card of Endure used up, I don't think it can take another hit. On the bright side, it seems to be cured of paralysis, and that obnoxious Sandstorm has finally subsided. Thank god, it really sucks to have to ref while there's a Sandstorm going on...

akela recalls the fainted Crustle and sends out his next Pokemon: Exploud! This is the first non Rock-type akela has sent out, and one of the only Pokemon he brought to this match that isn't Rock-type. I wonder what we'll see from it. Hopefully some epic Boomburst action, since it is Exploud...

Exploud starts by... creating a Substitute? Interesting move against a weakened opponent. I suppose akela wanted Exploud to avoid the pesky status that Stunfisk can dish out. Stunfisk instead attacks with Earth Power, but it just batters the doll Exploud created. It seems like the Substitute will survive for another hit, so I guess akela's strategy is successful.

Exploud looks like it's about to go on the offensive. Ah, here we go, Boomburst! Exploud sure got a powerful new toy this generation, and it's killing my eardrums. Stunfisk did not like it one bit. I doubt it can take another massive hit like that. It tries to retaliate with another Earth Power, though it only manages to destroy Exploud's Substitute.

Wasting no time, Exploud unleashes a second Boomburst. I'm probably going to get tinnitus from being so close to this but it's totally worth it! Stunfisk can't take it, and is knocked out from the blast. Is it just me, or is Stunfisk also letting out a ringing sound while it's unconscious? Oh, yep, that's the tinnitus. Anyways, Exploud sure has given us a great show. I think akela is finally getting serious in this match. Things are probably gonna get good from here on out!

Matezoide sends out Bronzong, his next Pokemon. Bronzong is a great Pokemon with many tricks. It could probably be very deadly against akela's mainly Rock-type team. And to boot, it's largely unaffected by all of the entry hazards akela has set up, only taking minor damage from the Stealth Rock trap. Exploud doesn't seem afraid though, and quickly attacks with Shadow Ball. Bronzong seems to have been caught off guard, and the attack scored a critical hit! Even still, it looked like the attack only did average damage. Bronzong doesn't attack back, but merely swaps its Amulet Coin with Exploud's Rare Candy using Trick. How clever! Now Bronzong will have even tougher defenses while Exploud's offenses have been neutered.

Exploud jumps back in to attack with Crunch. Like I was saying though, with such inflated defenses due to Rare Candy, it looks like Bronzong barely felt it! Bronzong is glowing with psychic powers... I think it's using Imprison? Matezoide's strategy is probably to disable Exploud's options to reduce the damage taken even more.

Exploud tries to launch another Shadow Ball, but can't. I think that's the effects of Imprison. Exploud looks a bit surprised. Oh, Bronzong is finally going on the attack, and it bashes Exploud with Heavy Slam! Due to its Heavy Metal ability, the power of the attack was increased by a bunch. That's impressive! How will akela fight back against Bronzong?

Exploud is fighting a losing battle. I think akela realizes this, and orders it to use Smokescreen. That's not necessarily a bad move, as Exploud has no real way of dealing steady damage at the moment. Bronzong dives in for another Heavy Slam... but it the attack missed? I guess that makes akela's move successful.

Capitalizing on the moment, Exploud jumps in and uses Crunch, then jumps back into the smoke. Bronzong really wasn't hurt by the attack much. I can't help but think Exploud would have more success using strong BAP attacks that hit neutrally, but maybe akela has something else in mind? Attempting a counterattack, Bronzong tries to land a hit with Gyro Ball this time. It doesn't look like it can locate Exploud through the smoke though, and the attack missed again!

Exploud continues this guerrilla style of attacking, surprising Bronzong with Astonish. It was probably trying to make Bronzong flinch, but Bronzong took the moment to nail Exploud with Heavy Slam. In just one attack it easily outdamaged Exploud for the round. However, it also spent quite a bit more energy than Exploud this round. Maybe akela was trying to wear down Bronzong's energy since he's having difficulty wearing down it's HP?

Exploud is ordered to cover the field with smoke again, but before it can Bronzong uses Protect. This somehow negates the effects of the Smokescreen, but honestly don't ask me how! Either way, that's a good move on Matezoide's part. Having to attack at -2 Accuracy would be seriously annoying, and this also means as long as Smokescreen isn't used again this round, Bronzong's stats will return to normal.

Neither akela nor Exploud have given up though. Exploud comes in for another Shadow Ball. They seem to be determined to whittle down Bronzong as much as possible before going down. Bronzong retaliates with a Gyro Ball that connects this time. Bronzong is easily outdamaging its opponent due to the Rare Candy. Still, Bronzong can't keep this up for forever.

Continuing the offense, Exploud pounds Bronzong with Hammer Arm. Hammer Arm has the unfortunate side effect of lowering Exploud's Speed, but it's probably still faster than Bronzong. That might actually be a good thing too, as it weakens the power of Gyro Ball. Bronzong doesn't go in for another Gyro Ball though; it attacks with Iron Head. The attack isn't all that strong compared to its previous attacks, but it still effortlessly does more than Hammer Arm. Both Pokemon are looking weakened now, but Exploud is in much worse shape.
