The amazing Swords Dance Jetter!
status: done!
[Overview]
- Also known as Wotter or Oshawott
- Very similar to its fellow Water-type starter, Totodile
- Higher SpA then Totodile and slightly more bulky on special side
- Better support options than Totodile, but lacks Brick Break and Ice Punch
- Comparisons to Totodile aside, Mijumaru is an average Water-type and, should stall teams become common, has the potential to be a decent stallbreaker
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Aqua Jet
move 3: Night Slash
move 4: Encore / Aerial Ace / Frustration
item: Life Orb / Berry Juice
nature: Adamant
evs: 236 Atk / 236 Spe
[Set Comments]
- This set focuses on sweeping with STAB Aqua Jet
- After a Swords Dance, Mijumaru hits 32 Attack, which is more than enough needed to sweep an unprepared or weakened team
- Aqua Jet gets priority and STAB, making it your main attacking move
- Night Slash hits most Pokemon that resist Aqua Jet, most notable being Pururiru. The only Pokemon that resists Water / Dark in Little Cup are Carvanha, Croagunk with Dry Skin and Teshiido
- Encore can be used to give Mijumaru more time to set up
- Aerial Ace gets perfect coverage with Aqua Jet and Night Slash, but its low base power makes it unappealing
- Frustration has higher base power than Aerial Ace, but you lose coverage on Teshiido
- Frustration is used over Return since nobody could love something so ugly
- The choice between Life Orb and Berry Juice is mostly preference. Berry Juice works better with Encore, though
- Mijumaru appreciates Stealth Rock and screen support. Bronzor is the best provider, since Mijumaru can switch in on Fire-type moves directed at Bronzor
- Grass-types work well with Mijumaru. Snover, Treecko and Teshiido are a few examples of Pokemon that are great teammates
name: LOtter
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Hidden Power Grass
move 4: Aqua Jet
item: Life Orb
nature: Mild
evs: 80 Atk / 176 SpA / 236 Spe
[Set Comments]
- No set up, no gimmicks, no support. Just let loose with this set
- Hydro Pump is Mijumaru's most powerful move, making it an obvious choice
- Ice Beam gets excellent coverage with Hydro Pump, hitting Grass-types and Dragon-types
- Hidden Power Grass gets perfect coverage alongside Hydro Pump and Ice Beam, so it is an excellent choice
- Aqua Jet for revenge killing and priority
- Choice Scarf is an option if you want Mijumaru to be a revenge killer
- Stealth Rock and Spikes support is highly recommended when using this set. Ishizumai is one of the best providers of both
- Offensive Grass-types, like Treecko and Shikijika, are excellent teammates
- Mijumaru is slow, so paralysis or even Trick Room support is appreciated
name: Lead
move 1: Taunt
move 2: Encore
move 3: Aqua Jet
move 4: Frustration
item: Berry Juice
nature: Adamant
evs: 156 HP / 76 Atk / 76 Def / 76 SpD / 76 Spe
[Set Comments]
- Here's where Mijumaru shines and Totodile, well, doesn't. This set works well against leads that use hazards
- If the lead against you is slower than you, Taunt them
- If the lead against you is faster than you, Encore them. It should be noted that using Encore against Spikes leads may not be wise, unless a majority of your team is immune to Spike damage
- Aqua Jet for finishing off Pokemon
- Frustration is your basic "high-power" move. Nobody could love Mijumaru except its mother, so its the perfect move
- Not much to say. It works best with set up Pokemon, like Dragon Dance Zuruggu or Nasty Plot Zorua
- If you really want to be a jerk, you can use Copycat to try and copy the opponent's Stealth Rock or Spikes
- Grass-types work well with Mijumaru, so Teshiido, Snover, Treecko and Shikijika are excellent temmates
- The first two sets appreciate Stealth Rock and Spikes support, so Ishizumai is a great team member
- The Swords Dance set loves having screens up. Bronzor and Tsutarja are excellent screeners to use alongside Mijumaru
- It has Air Slash and X-Scissor as other offensive options
- Shell Blade, Aqua Tail or Waterfall could be used as physical options aside from Aqua Jet
- Screech is an interesting option, but Swords Dance is almost always superior
- Teshiido is Mijumaru's top counter. It can paralyze it with Thunder Wave or go for the KO with Bullet Seed
- Croagunk can switch in on Water-type attacks and hammer Mijumaru with priority attacks
- Bronzor can take pretty much anything Mijumaru throws at it, but can't do much back to it either
- The Lead set is better countered by simply switching out, since Mijumaru will usually use either Taunt or Encore the first turn
Shell Armor is cool on the lead set, but the other sets are better off with that occasional chance of boosting its STAB.
