Welcome to the Monotype Next Best Thing. This project strives to showcase and discover unique sets for Pokemon that can still fulfill a new and viable purpose, such as an anti-lead, lure, or just an undiscovered option in general. By stepping away from the standard sets, this project hopes to find sets that have undiscovered potential.
Each week, I or a Monotype council member will select a Pokemon that you'll be making and posting original sets for. There will be a five-day period to post your sets, followed by a two-day voting process, where you'll vote for which set you think is the best in that week. Voting for yourself is prohibited. Please realize that "original sets" refer to movesets that aren't used commonly in the tier, as well as not being in said Pokemon's analysis.
When posting a set, please keep in mind that we are looking for viable options, so strange and unviable sets such as Swords Dance Skarmory and physical Alakazam will be frowned upon, and simple changes to an already popular set, such as an item change, isn't really acceptable either, unless you have viable reasoning to back up the change. Please do not "reserve" sets.

Set by: Clair
Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 248 HP / 148 Def / 96 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Body Slam
- Dragon Dance
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
"CroMalt is very self-sufficient and dgaf about status. Refresh DD sets are very similar, but RestTalk still has some advantages such as absorbing Sleep from Breloom / Moonguss, recovering HP + removing status in one turn. Body Slam > Return because you're a defensive set and the paralysis chance is super nifty"
Set by: -Voltage-
Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def /252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Tailwind
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power /Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse / Flash Cannon
"One of the biggest issues with Hydreigon is its disappointing base 98 Speed stat. So what if we could change that without having to give Hydra a scarf? Enter Tailwind, a move that doubles speed for 4 turns, and allows Hydreigon to double its already satisfying speed at 324 (after Max speed and Timid Nature) to 648. For reference, this means Hydreigon would only be outpaced by Hawlucha with a neutral/positive nature at +2, or Scolipede at +2."
