The Shellder Smuggler
Banned deucer.
Overview
########
+ Has a whopping base 160 Speed stat
+ Access to the Swords Dance + Speed Boost + Baton Pass combo
- Very frail
- Bad typing, with a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock
Baton Pass
########
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Baton Pass
move 2: Protect
move 3: Substitute
move 4: Swords Dance
ability: Speed Boost
item: Leftovers
evs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 Spe
nature: Timid
Moves
========
- Baton Pass passes boosts Speed Boost, Substitute, and Swords Dance boosts, if applicable
- Protect ensures that Ninjask can gain a boost to Speed from Speed Boost
- Substitute makes stalling with Protect much easier, and it passes with Baton Pass as well
- Swords Dance gives an Attack boost that is very helpful when passed
- Although not slashed, X-Scissor is good to stop Ninjask from being Taunt bait
Set Details
========
- 248 HP EVs allow Ninjask to switch into Stealth Rock twice and max out HP
- 176 Speed EVs with a beneficial nature allow Ninjask to outspeed Mega Aerodactyl before it can taunt, in the case that Ninjask can then stall with Protect and Substitute
- The rest of the EVs are dumped into Defense to let Ninjask take physical hits a bit better
- Leftovers let Ninjask gain HP back gradually and works well in combination with Protect and Substitute
- Speed Boost is absolutely mandatory as it is the only reason Ninjask is viable at all and is passed with Baton Pass
Usage Tips
========
- Ninjask is best used as a lead, to avoid Stealth Rock damage, slowing down Substitute passing
- Protect and Substitute can work together for a very long time, until Ninjask is maxed out Speed
- Swords Dance should only be used behind the protection of a substitute
- Baton Pass can be used whenever, as Ninjask outspeeds literally any relevant threat
Team Options
========
- Defog and Rapid users are extremely helpful, as they get rid of Stealth Rock, which is a huge problem for Ninjask as it takes half of his HP away whenever he switches in
- Pokemon who can benefit from Ninjask's Speed boosts are Nidoking, Heracross, Toxicroak, non-scarf Porygon-Z, offensive Swampert, Krookodile, Mega Ampharos, and Honchkrow, as they are all slower than the threats in UU, and can make great use of outspeeding them.
Other Options
########
- Ninjask has almost no other options, as its offensive movepool is scare and support movepool doesn't extend past Baton Pass
- A Swords Dance Speed Boost set with Protect / Swords Dance / X-Scissor / Night Slash or Aerial Ace can work, but Ninjask fulfills a Baton Pass role much better on a team than an offensive set
- A Choice Band set of X-Scissor / Night Slash / Aerial Ace / Sleep Talk could work, but like the Swords Dance set, isn't as good as Ninjask's main role
- A SubToxic set can work, but Ninjask is much too frail to use it effectively.
Checks & Counters
########
**Taunt** Prankster Taunt users such as Sableye and Mega Banette stop Ninjask right in its tracks and make it dead weight due to the fact that it usually doesn't run any move that does damage
**Multi-hit moves** Multi-hit move users such as Cincinno and Cloyster can break through Ninjask's Substitute, and proceed to OHKO with Rock Blast
**Stealth Rock phazing** Stealth Rock is enough of a problem for Ninjask, but phazers such as Roar Suicune not only remove Ninjask's boosts, but force it to switch back into Stealth Rock, taking away a huge chunk of its health
**Priority** Ice Shard and Extremespeed can easily damage Ninjask due to its frailness, and stop it from using Substitute
