Paradoxus vs LouisCyphre: Close combat battle!

]And a doubles battles brews in a very dangerous-looking arena. No escaping the battle here, because its a close-quarters brawl!

Arena: Standard Close-Quarters Training Room
  • Due to the proximity of combatants; it is more difficult to defend one's own vital areas. All critical hit rates are increased by one (1) stage due to this difficulty of defense. The use of Substitute or other moves that redirect attacks away from one's body are not subject to this increased critical hit rate; the bonus only applies if a vital joint or opening can be attacked.
  • The heat and humidity of this poorly-ventilated room aggravates status conditions. Any major status ailments, such as Burn and Paralysis, inflicted in this arena are boosted to their maximum stage of effectiveness, but they deteriate at twice the normal rate.
  • In this cramped area, sudden attacks are even harder to anticipate than normal. Moves that strike with increased priority cannot miss and gain an additional stage bonus to critical hit rate. Again, this bonus is ignored by protections such as Substitute. In addition, this bonus is denied to Pokémon who have been outspeed this action by a higher-priority damaging move. For example, a user of Quick Attack (+1) would recieve this bonus against most targets, but not against a user of Fake Out (+3) who had attacked them that action.
  • Lastly, the small maximum distance means that mobility is a very slight concern; Pokémon who normally perform poorly on land or who favor swimming can go toe-to-toe with adroit runners and agile fliers on relatively even ground. Water and stones are provided for such moves as Surf and Rock Slide; other such concessions can be generally assumed.

  • Accepter may choose who issues commands first.
  • Each side must have one (1) basic evolving Pokémon (Dratini, Nidoran); and either a mid-stage (Machoke, Ivysaur) or non-evolving (Tauros, Lapras) member. One of each category only.

And the teams, beggining with LouisCyphre!

Absol (Female)
Nature: Lonely (Atk +1, Def -1)
Type: Dark
Dark Type - Dark STAB; Immunity to all telepathic and telekinetic attacks, better performance in all darkened and especially twilight conditions. Can use any Dark-type attack regardless of Attraction.

Abilities:
Super Luck - (Innate) This Pokemon’s natural skill doubles (x2) its*critical hit levels*above other Pokemon, making its normal moves inflict critical hits 12.5% of the time and its high critical hit moves inflict critical hits 1/3rd of the time.
Pressure - (Innate) This Pokemon’s presence fills the air with intense anxiety, and any damaging or status attack launched at this Pokemon costs the opposing Pokemon two (2) more energy to perform.
(DW) Justified - (Dormant) - (Innate) This Pokemon's body reacts to dark energy, invigorating its passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, the Pokemon's attack will increase one (1) stage. A boost gained this way by an opponent's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

This Absol is to rather difficult get through to - she often acts in a disinterested or aloof manner, and often ignores or scoffs at the people and Pokemon around her. Bringing a cold stare and colder temper to bear, Absol very much prefers more prudent approaches to combat over aggressive strategies.

Horsea (Male)
Nature: Lonely (Atk +1, Def -1)
Type: Water
Water Type - Water STAB; Can breathe and have excellent mobility when underwater, are less capable on land unless they are entirely amphibious.

Abilities:
Swift Swim - (Innate) The Pokemon with this ability moves extremely fast in slick, rainy conditions, doubling (x2) its speed in the rain.
Sniper - (Innate) This Pokemon has deadly accuracy and strikes sensitive points, increasing its critical hit bonus from +3 to +5 on single attacks, +2 to +3 on two-hit attacks, and +1 to +2 on multi-hit attacks.
(DW) Damp - (Innate) This Pokemon releases a damp mist upon entry into battle that short circuits the opponent’s ability to use Selfdestruct or Explosion.

This Horsea has something to prove to the world, and he's going to prove it all on his own. He prefers to rely on power whenever he can, but he carries an array of hindering and defensive moves in case he needs the protection - again, relying on only himself for this sort of support.

And here is team Paradoxus!

Monohm (Sparky) (*) (F)
Nature: Modest (+SpA -Atk)
Type: Electric/Dragon
Electric: Electric STAB; 50% reduction in paralysis chance from other electrical attacks, perfect accuracy and 30% chance of Protect breaking Thunder during Rain. Superior senses in power plant environments.
Dragon: Dragon STAB; More in touch with legendary or special auras in arenas. Able to use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact without losing focus.

Static: (Innate) This pokemon’s body is surrounded by an electric field that has a 30% chance of paralyzing opponents that use contact moves on this pokemon.
Sheer Force (DW): (Innate) This Pokemon can energize all its attacks with secondary effect chances less than 100%. When Enabled, the Base Attack Power of every move with an effect chance less than 100% increases by two (2), but they will never have a secondary effect.

Flying: Flying STAB; immunity to Ground attacks outside extremely odd circumstances even for ground-based flying Pokemon. Enhanced aerial mobility. Superior senses in open air arenas.

Since I acquired my third mon before this thread was posted, would I be allowed to add it to my possible line-up? It's not like there's much of a decision to make.

We'll bring Absol and Horsea out, obviously. I'll assume I can make one (1) substitution for each mon.

Absol, you need to keep that Yanma down; it's the real threat. Horsea; you too. We need that thing slow.

Absol: Thunder Wave (Yanma) | Taunt (Yanma) | Swords Dance
If Horsea Disables Yanma's Hypnosis, then Absol will Flash Monohm instead.

Horsea: Substitute (15 HP) | Leer (Both) | Agility
If Yanma attempts Hypnosis, Horsea will Disable it on action 2 instead of Leer.

K then.

Yanma: Detect-----> Double Team (4 Clones)------> Signal Beam (Absol)
Monohm: Substitute (15)------> Thundershock (Horsea) -------> Thundershock (Horsea)

I will fix a couple formatting things when I actually post it, such as the pokemon hp and sprites.

Paradoxus has sent out to small mons suited for this close-quarters combat, Sparky the Monohm and Miles the Yanma. LouisCyphre then sends out his only two pokemon with him at the time, Absol and Horsea.

The two pokemon get moving quickly, with Miles moving the quickest. He speeds far ahead of the competition, buzzing around swiftly and preparing to Detect incoming moves. The incoming Thunder Wave from Absol is easily dodged, even in the small room. The evenly matched Sparky and Horsea both glare angrily at each other before creating hiding behind small Substitutes they created. It looks like they are ready for the next action.

Miles continues the evasiveness by buzzing around so fast there are four clones of himself, Double Teaming his foes. Absol thinks very hard about which Yanma to hit, and begins Taunting one. Unfortunately, it is not the real Yanma, so the bug easily dodges the taunt, although the clone dissipates with the evil energy. Sparky moves first from behind her Substitute, sending out a quick jolt of electricity in a Thundershock, frying Horsea's Substitute! Horsea seems determined to keep going, and stares out with his adorable eyes to Leer at both of his foes. Sparky completely ignores the glare from behind her sub, but Miles seems intimidated.

Miles finally goes on the offense, blasting a buggish Signal Beam towards Absol along with his clones. Absol seems quite hurt after that hit! However, she retaliates with....preparing for next round with a strange and powerful Swords Dance. Horsea moves first this time, showing off his amazing Agility and speeding himself up in the process. Sparky is not impressed, and fires off another Thundershock, this time hitting the real Horsea for incredible damage!

We need to either build some offensive pressure of our own, or stop theirs.

Absol: Protect | Megahorn (Monohm) | Thunder Wave (Yanma)
Horsea: Substitute (15) | Disable (Monohm's Charge Beam) | Disable (Yanma's Signal Beam)

This close combat battle is getting intense as we enter the second round! Horsea, now the fastest pokemon in the room, prepares another Substitute.Miles the Yanma shoots another Signal Beam of insect power and blasts it out towards Absol, who Protects against the powerful attack with a mystic shield. Sparky is not impressed with Horsea's speedy substitute, and just crushes it with a Signal Beam.

Horsea uses his agility to quickly Disable Sparky's Charge Beam, rendering him unable to use it for a while. Miles continues with more of the same, sending out another Signal Beam towards Absol, this time hitting for some incredible damage! Absol seems to ignore the hit, and charges towards Monohm, her head-scythe lowered, for a cloudbreaking Megahorn. The fake Sparky is shattered and strewn across the floor, and the real Sparky has a terrified looks on his face as Absol looms over him. Sparky, the knowledge of charge beam erased from his mind, simply sits there.

Miles takes vengeance for the beating-up on Sparky and tries to fires off yet another Signal Beam at Absol, but suddenly forgot how to! It appears that Horsea has Disabled the attack before Miles could even move! The tired Yanma just flies around with his clones. Absol, fed up with dragonfly lasers, creates a Thunder Wave and sends it in Mile's direction, finally hitting the real one. As Miles crashes to the ground with paralysis, the other clones dissappear. Sparky once again sits there uselessly.

That's the ticket! Abby, get some punishment in while there's an opening! Horsea, keep that opening open!

Absol: Megahorn (Monohm) | Taunt (Yanma) | Megahorn (Monohm)
If Yanma uses Detect on action 2, replace Taunt with Feint

Horsea: Smokescreen (Monohm) | Leer (Both) | Smokescreen (Monohm)
If Monohm Substitutes at any point, begin Scalding Yanma.

Miles: Silver Windx2 at absol, then go at an angle where the smokescreen and Absol are hit

Sparky: Thundershockx3 at Horsea

In round three of this battle, things happen!!! GASP!

Horsea collects ink in his trunk and blasts it out as a Smokescreen, obscuring Monohm's and Mile's vision. Absol lowers her horn again, and charges in for an anti-adorable Megahorn, crushing the poor Sparky! Sparky, his vision clouded by the disgusting smokescreen, is unable to aim correctly and zaps an unfortunate punching bag with his Thundershock. Miles, no longer the fastest pokemon around, flaps his wings rapidly even through paralysis, detaching small silver flakes and empowering them in a Silver Wind directly at Absol. Those super-effective hits are taking their toll!

As Absol cringes at the attack, Horsea Leers angrily at both opponents, nailing them with her evil glare and lowering their defenses. Absol takes a break from bullying small clouds and Taunts Yanma menacingly. Sparky finally cleared his eyes a little bit, and fires off a Thundershock, this time electrocuting Horsea as he planned earlier. Miles flaps his wings once again and creates another blast of Silver Wind directed at Absol.

Horsea ignores her pummeled partner and shoots a Smokescreen towards Sparky and the slow Miles, ruining their vision even more. He's going to need glasses after this! Absol crashes into Sparky once more for a terrifying Megahorn, dealing great damage. Another failed Thundershock crashes into the floor next to Horsea. The shock (lolpun) of getting jabbed by evil cats and spat on by seahorses just ruined his little mind. Miles rushes to a new position so that Absol is between him and Horsea, for seemingly no reason!

"Absol, you need to stay in for a moment. It's Horsea's glory moment right now!"

Absol: Chill | Protect | Thunder Wave (Yanma)

Horsea: Substitute (20) | Outrage | Outrage

Absol is now the speediest pokemon in this close quarters brawl, and takes advantage of this by...chilling out to rejuvenate herself a bit. Horsea uses some of his last remaining energy and creates another Substitute, ready to take some electric attacks from Monohm. Speaking of which, Sparky tries creates a Substitute with significantly less of his health, but it is just to little and fails! The paralyzed Miles fights against his ailment and flaps his wings to create a Whirlwind, battering Absol with the harsh winds. However, the attack did nothing because Absol had no status to blow away!

Absol now prepares for the rest of the action by a creating a Protective barrier. Horsea, from behind his Substitute, seems to be getting angry fast. He goes on a crazy Outrage out of nowhere, slamming with incredible force into Sparky, crashing into the little dragon with draconic force. Monohm barely survives, and fires off an electric Beam to Charge himself up, but the attack misses its mark, shocking another punching bag into submission. Horsea's ink is really hurting Paradoxus! Miles manages to create a bluster of Silvery Wind again, but Absol's barrier stopped it well before it hit the dark-type.

Absol creates a paralyzing Thunder Wave out of all the electricity created by Sparky and pushes it towards Yanma, renewing its paralysis. Horsea is still incredibly angry for no discernible reason, and goes on an Outrage once again, this time tearing Miles apart. Sparky seems relieved that he was not the target out of the outrage, but stills fires a vengeul Charge Beam towards Horsea, nearly destroying the poor Substitute. The power of the beam even charged up Sparky, increasing his special prowess. Miles was hopelessly overcome by paralysis as he attempted to fire off a signal beam towards Absol.

Pardon.

I ordered Horsea to use his last turn of Outrage; he should have become confused after Action 1.
