Are you on the list?

The Smogon Platinum, Heart Gold & Soul Silver Battle Frontier plus Diamond/Pearl Battle Tower RECORDS TOPIC

To keep this clean and easy for everyone to comprehend, please read the instructions in Section 6 and try to follow them when you post your records. Section 6 also includes some helpful information. Be sure to check it out.

Please do not hack your record in any way. If you are that desperate, OK, but don´t post it here. If you want to be an acknowledged competitive battler and record holder, do it the conventional way.

Basic Rules: post records, theorymon & discuss strategies; please don´t flood this topic with the "what-should-I-use?" kind of RMTs

Everyone who is top3 in a mode has to post some kind of proof (picture, video preferred) of their record for confirmation, plus an appropriate explanation of how they got that far, or else their records have a shot at being doubted by other users, which may result in not being put on the list.

There is no reason to be scared to post your record(s), if you are being honest with us. The more information you post, the better.

SECTION 6: Instructions & Helpful Information
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What information should be included in your record post (let the links of some of the highest streak posts guide you):

1. game (version), battle facility, battle mode, streak
2. team / pokémon
3. team strategy
4. how you lost
5. other comments

Specification

1.
Clearly state the streak you achieved and what facility and battle mode you achieved it in.
To see the number of wins in a row, just check the in-game record screen located just beside the person that accepts your challenge in the particular battle mode.
If you achieve a fairly high record number, take a picture of your in-game record screen and post the picture as well. This will make your record more trustworthy.

Example:

Platinum Battle Tower Single Record: 200

Picture

Note 1: I prefer to list finished streaks, which means that you basically lost already when posting your record. I do understand that the majority of the records posted in the near future will be unfinished. If you can, please continue your record until you lose.
I would like to prevent a mess in here where people update their records after every set of 7 in a new post. Also remember that I´m listing a link to your "record post", so please update that post whenever something changes (your streak for example) and mention that you did update it, or just repost your record as a whole.

Note 2: each unfinished streak is labeled with an asterisks *

2.
List the record winning team and its members (pokémon) along with their individual information (held item, movesets, etc.), please give us as much info as you can

example:

Starmie ** nickname
Nature: Modest
IVs: 31/4/31/31/31/31
EV spread: 6 HP / 252 Sp.Attk / 252 Speed
Moveset:
~ Surf
~ Psychic
~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice beam

The following info is optional but recommended for having a trustworthy record:

3. Give us a little overview on your team strategy, how and why it works, why you chose those particular Pokémon, which of the foes you encountered gave you trouble, etc.

4. Post a short description of the battle you lost your streak in, what you faced and why you think you lost

5. Other comments. You may include battles you found interesting, funny, close calls, hax stories or whatever you like

http://www.psypokes.com/dp/battletower_teams.php?id=223

Important Note from Jump: the natures/speeds listed in these links reflect the misconception that natures are predetermined, like the moves, items, EV spreads. They, indeed, are not. Natures, like Abilities, are assigned randomly. For example, the three Weavile that the first (mewn) link states are Jolly could actually be Bold or Sassy or Gentle when you face them. Likewise, your 31 IV max speed Timid Gengar may not outspeed the Rain Dance Starmie that that link lists as Modest, as it could be Timid itself or even Hasty or Naive. There is, therefore, a 16% chance that an AI poke's stat is a beneficial Nature, and the same 16% chance it's hindering. Account for this randomness accordingly.

Important Note from Peterko: After battle 49 in the Diamond/Pearl Battle Tower you will face 100 trainers, out of which 80 use flawless IV (perfect) Pokémon and 20 (the following list) use 21 IV Pokémon (which means they have around 5 point lower stats at lv.50):
- Camper Justyn & Camper Leland
- Cowgirl Margot & Cowgirl Sophie
- Guitarist Markell & Guitarist Marquez

Nothing too great here yet.

Platinum Battle Factory Single Record (Open Level): 33 wins

Battle Factory is as evil as ever. I keep getting murdered in Round 5. I had a Bronzong, Mismagius, Aerodactyl against Drifblim, Granbull and Skuntank. I misjudged Granbull's durability. I tried to KO it with CB Earthquake after it KO'd my Bronzong with Close Combat and took Life Orb damage. It narrowly lived and KO'd Aerodactyl with Stone Edge. It died to Life Orb damage. Mismagius can't beat Skuntank.

Here's a random Battle Factory battle I had that I found amusing: ID 28-22012-11057

Platinum Battle Arcade Single Record: 58 wins

Team:
Latios
Nature: Hasty
IVs: Can't remember, has 31 IV Speed though
EV spread: 6 HP / 252 Sp.Attk / 252 Speed
Moveset:
~ Surf
~ Psychic
~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice beam

Garchomp
Nature: Jolly
IVs: Can't Remember
EV spread: 6 HP / 252 Sp.Attk / 252 Speed
Moveset:
~ Earthquake
~ Outrage
~ Swords Dance
~ Stone Edge

Metagross
Nature: Adamant
IVs: Can't Remember
EV spread: 100 HP / 252Atk / 16Sp.Def / 142Speed (Don't ask why it's like this, I don't remember. >_>)
Moveset:
~ Meteor Mash
~ Earthquake
~ ThunderPunch
~ Ice Punch

Pretty much just 3 sweepers I brought over, nothing too much to say about it. I ended up dying from selecting the "Swap Team" panel from the Roulette. I had a Flareon, Lapras and something else. I didn't really have a chance. The CPU spammed Critical Hits just to make sure.

Platinum Battle Hall Single Record: 190 wins - Garchomp

Garchomp @ Focus Sash
Nature: Jolly
IVs: Can't Remember
EV spread: 6 HP / 252 Sp.Attk / 252 Speed
Moveset:
~ Earthquake
~ Outrage
~ Swords Dance
~ Stone Edge

Pretty simple stuff, Focus Sash to guarantee survival of one hit preventing surprise critical hit kills, and use Outrage to take out everything. Died by getting Frozen Solid by a Lickilicky. Focus Sash doesn't really save you from that.

Platinum Battle Tower Double Record: 142 wins

Same Team as my D/P Double Battle Tower Team.
http://www.smogon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1383615&postcount=563

142 is a bit low, but that's how long it took for a turn 1 Sheer Cold on Bronzong. >_>

Oh, and here's a sample video: ID 65-35133-55989

BTW, gold prints at all except factory and arcade. I hate those two D:

i planned on trying that eventually but gyarados is like *the* reason sd sash luke would eventually fail...

...unless someone like TRE can post what exactly the rules for this facility are, as i understand it from serebii you get to pick what types you want to face, so if you did NOT want to fight gyarados ever you should never pick both water and flying, correct? that kind of info might be helpful for the OP since the frontier is more complicated than just the battle tower

You can choose what type you want to fight, but after you choose a type 10 times, you can not choose that type again until you have fought every type 10 times.

It'll probably be another 3 weeks until I attempt the battle frontier with one of Jumpman16's trick teams for the tower. Probably by then there will be some excellent team choices to choose from.

After Battle 170 in the Battle Hall, all 17 Types become playable again, but they stay at Rank 10. They become greyed out again after you defeat one, until you have defeated all 17 types at rank 10 again. Then the process repeats. Thus, if there is a Type you have troubles with, you'll have to confront it every 17 battles no matter what. With this said, to get a really long streak in Battle Hall, you'll more than likely have to use two different movesets.

And as for what Garchomp should take on first?
I'd say Ice, then Dark for the first two sets, and most of the rest can be done in any order until 170. Weavile is a killer.

I had 148 with Dragonite in Battle Hall, because a Gyro Ball Steelix that I couldn't 2HKO with Earthquake appeared. The set I used would definitely be better suited for Garchomp, although Dragonite's bulk did save me a couple of times.. like taking a Blizzard from Jynx, and surviving with 7 HP.

Dragonite @ Yache Berry
~Outrage
~Earthquake
~Fire Punch
~Dragon Dance

Outrage was used about 90% of the time, Earthquake 9% and Fire Punch, oh so rarely. Like others have stated, I tackled my weaknesses first, Ice, Water, Dark (for Weavile, mostly) and Dragon. Then I started to take the rest of the types up until about 5.. then all to 6.. then all to 7.. etc.

I think most Pokemon will have to run two movesets to break all ranks, but Garchomp should be a pretty clear contender with the standard Sword Dance/4 attacks set. I'd probably rather have Yache on him, and not Focus Sash. Criticals might ruin you, but I'd rather not be Ice Sharded to death.

Battle Factory can be a such a bitch. I had a pretty decent open level run, and then my last 2 pokes, Quagsire (Physical-variant, no yawn) and Porygon2 (Trick w/ Tri-Attack & Thunderbolt) were completely walled and stalled to death by bulky Cradily running Ingrain/Giga Drain/Recover/Sludge Bomb.

I find that level 50 is easier than open level, because there are not as many immediately crazy threats earlier on if you don't have good elemental coverage with your team.

Also, to anyone who is planning on doing Battle Factory: Lead is the most critical pokemon on your team! I've found if you have a heavy-hitting lead it's easy to get a lot of momentum in the battle, especially with the lady telling you who the lead pokemon is (I think this stops at one point though). In my current level 50 streak, I am leading with a Huntail with Rain Dance/Screech/Bite/Water Pulse, and have been able to sweep through the first 2 (and a 2-3 teams of the third round) with him. Same thing happened when I had Medicham on my open level team.

I think I'm addicting to this facility lol

Edit: Screw you, Thorton.

thanks for that info magic umbreon, most notably the reminder that lucario gets thunderpunch which i had completely and utterly forgotten about (and couldn't check when i first though of how luke can beat every poke), thunderpunch is aan easy ohko on gyara after intimidate because no gyara have HP or Def EVs

with sash a cc/ip/tp/crunch/es "set" would likely have no problems outside of ridicuhax (or something im not thinking about atm)

Platinum Battle Tower: 70 and counting.
Battle Factory: 35, and still going up.
Battle Castle: 53, seriously, CSpecs Jynx is BS
Battle Hall: 94, with a Focus Sash Lucario w/Swords Dance, Aura Sphere, Blaze Kick, Earthquake

The Factory and Castle teams were the same Garchomp/Lucario/Gengar team I posted in the previous thread.

Edit: Whoops, forgot to mention all categories were single battle. Also, the Factory was open level.

shadow ball, i had a similar problem. its also worth noting that draco meteor is far more useful than psychic on your latios

I did 170 in the battle hall with a garchomp; alternating Yache Berry and Choice Band/Choice Scarf and it wasn't hard at all. The battle arcade though is a different story. I was on round 48 when I somehow managed to get "Switch teams." Yeah.

I got Gyrados to streak of 123 in Battle Hall and lost to a zangoose... yea wtf

Gyrados @ Focus Sash / Life Orb / Lum
Adamant
- Ice Fang
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance

I almost lost to raikou. It missed with thunder. Also almost lost to Bastiodon who froze me with blizzard and then continued to use thunder against me. That sucked. I unfroze and KO'ed it. Then zangoose was faster and crit me with crush claw and lowered my defense and won D:

Also almost lost to Bastiodon who froze me with blizzard and then continued to use thunder against me.

I guess this is a good time to bring this up.

411 | Bastiodon | Impish | Focus Band | Iron Head | Stone Edge | Swagger | Taunt | Def/SpD
547 | Bastiodon | Modest | Persim Berry | AncientPower | Flamethrower | Thunderbolt | Ice Beam | HP/SpA
683 | Bastiodon | Careful | Leftovers | Iron Head | Fissure | Double Team | Iron Defense | HP/SpD
819 | Bastiodon | Adamant | Focus Sash | Metal Burst | Stone Edge | Avalanche | Curse | HP/Atk

You nearly lost to a Bastiodon that seemingly does not exist.

That's because you were up against this Bastiodon:

H356 | Bastiodon | Quiet | Quick Claw | Metal Burst | Blizzard | Thunder | Fire Blast | HP/SpA

The Battle Hall uses a different set of Pokemon from the other Battle Frontier facilities.

I pulled the Battle Hall Pokemon info from the game's data:
http://members.shaw.ca/teamrocketelite/BattleHallPokemon.txt

There's one moveset for every eligible Pokemon in the Battle Frontier and only one moveset. The exception is Wormadam who had one moveset for each form.

Right now I'm not sure exactly what deteremines what "level" each Pokemon counts as. Only the obvious fact that you fight weaker Pokemon at lower levels and stronger Pokemon at higher levels.

I'm not sure what determines what the Battle Hall Frontier Brain uses. Based on what acinod said, she used a Shedinja which is listed in the same area as Nincada. I'm guessing the Frontier Brain always uses a "Lv10" Pokemon, but I'm still working on what qualifies as a "Lv10" Pokemon.

One thing that's on my mind MDragon, and maybe its fairly obvious but I can't notice it... but wouldn't CBChomp fare better than CBMence? O_o;.

Note: I do not play these in game things so my knowledge might not be the best =/. Just throwing out a thought

I got 170 in battle hall with

Garchomp@ choice band
Jolly 6 hp 252atk 252spe
-earthquake

intimidate plus the higher base attack is why cbsala can be considered better than cb chomp, cb sala wouldn't have to worry about stuff like this:

599 | Aggron | Adamant | Quick Claw | Metal Claw | Fire Punch | ThunderPunch | Ice Punch | Atk/Def

because with intimidate IP will never kill even if qc activates, whereas IP will always kill cb garchomp, plus it would likely have killed that dewgong with cb outrage

Yeah, but chomp always out speeds base 100's with a + nature and base 115's without, and gets STAB on EQ to kill bulkier steels

I have a streak of 101 in the Platinum Battle Tower (though that feels kind of small, haha).

Metagross (Some Bulk and Speed, can't remember off the top of my head, Choice Scarf): Trick / Ice Punch / Bullet Punch / Explosion
Garchomp (Typical Adamant 252/252/4 Lum Berry): Earthquake / Dragon Claw / Substitute / Swords Dance
Gyarados (Traditional Adamant Bulkydos Leftovers): Dragon Dance / Water Fall / Earthquake / Ice Fang

Obviously Metagross lacks all the cool support moves Latias / Cresselia have, and the raw defensive stats, at least on the special side (it's too bad Jirachi can't go in the BT). My main reason for going with it are its resistances, which can help me control the incoming attacks a bit more. You all know Steel is a magical typing, and with the team I can cover (and set up on) almost all the attacks that are super effective or even nuetral against metagross.

Fire-- either, usually Garchomp because Substitute/Lum Berry increase my odds of avoiding burn. In case of a physical fire move I can always intimidate first then go to garchomp.
Ground-- Gyarados' Immunity is amazing

Electric-- Garchomp bait
Fighting-- Gyarados can set up, intimidate helps
Bug-- Gyarados again
Water-- Gyarados

Dark and Ghost are the only problematic ones here, but Gyarados can set up on physical ones, and you all know what a beast garchomp is.

I'm thinking this team could be refined a bit with Rest/DD/Waterfall/Return Gyarados to help me set up better on fire types without fear of burn, but I'm feeling lazy right now in regards to getting Gyarados to like me . . .

In any case, Garchomp's electric immunity is essentially really important, especially with the computer sending out so many magnezone against metagross.

In the end, I got killed by Quick-Claw Sheer Cold/Perish Song lapras. It was quite depressing getting sheer colded to death before I could even trick. Yeah you heard me write, there's a Quick-Claw Sheer Cold Lapras. >__>
