How about that Ash rival's team? Perhaps a few less well-known pokes as he begins to question his motives.

That was something that was considered when it was brought up: more bout if it was suitable enough yet at this time and all. I think we can do better with that team, but I don't know what would be the best way to go about it at this time.

Well, I certainly have always enjoyed making a good old gimmicky team, so let me take a crack at it.

Pre battle quote: "Hey man, I heard about what you did in there to Team Luck Sack. Whoa, don't get me wrong or anything, I know you did what you had to. Lock eyes and battle and all that. You know, I have to wonder what the point to all of this is. All this talk of "this strategy should'nt be allowed" or "that strategy completely sucks and should never be used" is kind of over my head. Anyway, I know you're itching to get your pokemon healed, but I kind of want a battle too, so let's compromise!"

*Ashe healed the players pokemon*

"Alright, show me what you've got!"

*battle starts*

*Pikachu comes out(doesn't have to be last)*

Ashe: "Alright Pikachu, show them your power!"

*battle ends*

*end quote*

Ashe: "Dang, you've gotten really good. At this rate, I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up. Hey, let's have a competition! A lot of these pokemon I'm using don't really appear here in Smog Smog for some reason. Some people say that that's because only "good" pokemon appear here. That would mean that a lot of my team would be considered "bad". I dunno about you, but that was a pretty good battle we had, so I want you to test this with me. You keep using the pokemon you find here and I'll keep trying out different things and seeing if I can put together a good team with mons that don't appear here, and we'll see who comes out on top. Anyway, make sure you rest up and even train a bit before going into the gym here, the leader is one tough customer, in more ways then one!"

*Ashe walks towards the town*

innovative af imo

God Almighty, the bugger is gonna have so many Mega options -_-

Looks fine Web for this point. Anything y'all can think of we need to discuss (outside of sparks link)? If not expect more info on what's next tonight then when I get back on my comp.

Yeah, there are a lot of mons who were previously unviable but now have an OU viable mega (beedrill, pidgeot, lopunny, manectric, etc). It's gonna be fun trying to fit them into our wild mon roster.

Sigh, the day when beedrill becomes more viable then ninjask is a sad one for me... Poor, poor ninja

Just going to repost what Chou said (copy/pasted). Hopefully this will answer your question

What would an in-game Pokemon experience look like when entirely focused on making a Smogon-OU centric experience?

Where the elite four is so insane that you can't beat them without a truly competitive team (imagine Obi's cracked the code to make a god AI for this). Where the gym leaders are also insane (with full teams of 6 bad-ass members), but the whole in-game experience is geared towards helping you raise a truly OU-worthy roster. Where you need to be a true competitive player to actually beat the game-- and the game itself is actually developed to teach what it takes to be a competitive player.

I get that, but it has nothing to do with the OU metagame. The people here are creating a fantasy RPG based off of the OU metagame. If I created a thread about how Smogon OU Pokemon would effect real life, it would get deleted because it has nothing to offer to the actual Smogon OU game. Isn't this suppose to be about things that are strategy related?

Okay man, I can get that but this was put here by Chou so instead of posting about how you find this a waste of space, try engaging with him on how or why this is here. This was approved by the ou mods and really until Chou or Alex say the threads time is up then this will still be up.

If post is seen as angry or whatever, let it be known it's cause I'm having to rush answer an issue on the phone. If this does come up again I will reply in more detail when I can but don't bring it up here please.

I just figured I'd ask here and maybe Chou would respond. But yeah I can ask him directly. It seems against the rules, but is here because he has the power to do so and. I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way, or if I'm taking crazy pills.

For what it's worth, I think a large part of this thread's legitimacy does in fact come from the fact that a mod asked a few other mods and they liked the idea. You can occasionally get away with fun stuff like this and OU Conquest just by asking first, even if it's not exactly relevant to the OU metagame.

I personally joined this thread because I liked the idea and I was tired/embittered from the BP debate and needed a break. I've stuck around all this time because I have some interest in what goes into good game design and I find this activity to be very fun and satisfying.

Moral of the Story: The forum's Code of Conduct are not ironclad, and can be bent in the name of necessity and/or fun when you can get a few mods behind the idea. Suspect threads in general are prime examples of the former (discussion of tiering is normally not allowed), and this thread, the ubers "cutability rankings" thread, and the OU conqust tournament are prime examples of the latter.

I hope that by giving my take on the situation that I either A. prompt someone to call me out on something I got wrong (I get things wrong occasionally) or B. help ease your understandable grievances with topics like this one.

Thanks bud made me not having to post another response then. Again sorry for the pissed attitude shack but was in a hurry and was getting annoyed at it was all. We do fun stuff a lot of the time and while its not quite like a tournament its still just a fun little side project for the ou forum.

aarrhghh didn't get alerts!!!!
ok i'll make some quick points:
  • shack will not question the legality of this thread here again, he'll do so with chou personally(should i tag him, where's he been)
  • WebBowser made an Ash-type team for Ash, except where the hell did he get that Tauros from?!
  • Have we made Life Orb and Choice items available at the Mart. If not, we need to. If yes, i guess a NPC should tell us about their recent arrival in the Mart(maybe the guy who stalks every gym leader who's helping with our League quest could tell us after we beat the gym, or maybe the leader himself-will make a point about it later)
  • Hopefully Eviolite has been made available(i don't remember, so tell me)
  • Could someone mark on the map the places we have finished, and where we currently are? It gets confusing.
Now, here's what i thought- After beating the Leader, and all the casual talk and TM giveaways etc., we exit the gym, only to be followed by the Leader. He looks at us and says, "Glas i caught up with you, strong one. I've just heard the PokeMart here have shipped in some items that boost the might of the holding Pokemon"then explains the Life Orb and all Choice Item "You should try them as well". Now note that this isn't how our masculine Leader speaks, so somebody change it to his way please. That's all for now.

PS: no Salemance , it'll rise from BL to OU, to be locked away to UBERS!!!

Ash caught 30 Tauros in one episode, remember? SparksBlade
ofc i do, what i meant was that if we're giving him Pokemon that we can't find, we should explain it somewhere, like something that i'm about to post. I'm very open to any decent explanations anyone might come up with.

PS: i actually believe that Tauros is very underrated and hope that one day it'll appear in the viability rankings :]

alright, my double post, in which i try to explain why Ash can find Pokemon that we can't :p

Love Pokemon to find them!
Allright, so this is what i believe can be a decent-ish explanation to why Ash can find Roggenrola and we can't.
Earlier, before Smogon came into begin, every kind of Pokemon was available in this region. But later, only those that were on the viability could be found in the wild and caught. This was because all other Pokemon either left the region, or went into hiding. It is said that these Pokemon will only appear to those who really care about them, and don't worry about their viability according to Smogon.

It kind of paints Smogon in bad color, so if someone could make this look better it would be appreciated.

Not bad, I personally was thinking more along the lines of Ashe being a traveler who has visited the regions outside of Smog Smog (Kanto, Johto, Habenero, etc) and found his pokemon there. After all, it's not only Ashe coming in with his unviable mons, but TLS as well, so they're gonna need to get them from somewhere (and I'd rather not pigeonhole all the TLS grunts into being people who care deeply about their mons, we need a few jerks among them too). Allowing for the existence of the other regions in our "canon" (even is the player can never actually visit them), can also be used to explain how previously unviable mons like charmander and manectric have managed to get here, they were brought over by trainers from other regions who were then released and subsequently invaded their new home in Smog Smog, using their newfound power to carve out a niche.

You know, that gives me a really interesting idea of how to handle mega evolutions. You know how there's a ton of mons who are viable only for their mega evolution and have no viability otherwise (cough cough beedrill cough)? Well, once we give the player his mega ring, in any area where a megamon's preevos live, one can find that megamon patrolling that map (kind of like a legendary, but minus the buildup and the entire dungeon being dedicated to him). With the megaring, the player can challenge this megamon to a battle by talking to it. This megamon will be a considerably higher level then the wild mons around him, at least high enough to one shot any of the other wild mons (which explains how the non-megamons are able to live there, despite their unviability, they have this badass protecting them). If the player manages to catch this fearsome megamon, he will have a fully evolved version of that mon with 5 guaranteed perfect IVs, holding that megastone. If he KOs it, he can come back and rechallenge any time.

This can potentially lead to some hilarious situations such as the player getting 6-0'd by a megamon 10 levels higher then his entire team, but since it's not a random encounter, I believe it to be fair (also, pokedolls are a thing, so are smoke balls)...

We should probably warn him of this when we give him the mega ring anyway.

ye i like the idea of Ash getting his mons from other regions. If other tiers decide to follow our steps(i wonder how the LC and Ubers will be shaped), it'll fit in perfectly. It also reflects Ash's habit of leaving back his mons and catching new ones in every region, but finally gets his old mons to help him.

....why the hell have alerts been stopping?

Anyway sparks yah I thought I had typed up items being sent to the mart after beating the second leader but I might e imagined that.

Also its fin if its a thing we have no pint in usin since he is suppose to be using lesser strategies.

With all due respect, I would like to inquire our new based overlord of OU, Mega Salemance, as to what the **** this sentence says.

Huh, phone typing almost made it sound like normal talk at times.

It should say "Also its fine if he is using a Tauros, since he is suppose to be using lesser and or not as efficient strategies at times."

PS. That seriously gets on my bad side bud, do cut it out.

Ight yall since I haven't exactly gotten much response from Chou atm, lets go ahead and continue on then. The next section of the map follows after Dogars City, and is a relative short route. What should be the environment of the route be, what should be seen there, and what exactly should be done there?
Again, it is a relatively short route as we are almost back at the next town so lets get to discussing.

Does the map give us any insight into what kind of rouo this is? Also I will work on introducing zarel in the next town and a major plot for TLS if that's fine with you all. Also maybe we would need a poll to decide what Pokémon is given to us by zarel.

The route should be rather rocky to start off with, then start to turn to grass as we leave it, sorta like the northern route to Cyllage Town in X/Y, but in reverse. We've already seen a fair bit of action, so this is a good time to slow down and enjoy the scenery (well, as scenic as you can make a pokemon game).

Maybe somewhere off the route when the rocky terrain turns grassy, you can have a single log cabin off amongst the trees. In it, you see a lone woodcutter and his 3 Timburrs (hah, tree puns). Maybe some small-talk dialogue there: "I'm in charge of the wood supply for Dogars City. Don't need a lot of it, honestly, since the stuff dries up and catches fire too easy for construction purposes. Better for other useful things, like paper."

Both Wild Pokemon and Trainers should be sparse in this area. Again, we need that lull, the calm before the storm (kinda).

Salemance Sorry about making fun of your name earlier (late apology, I know, prolly just made it awkward). Aaanyway, which way are we going? Looking at the map all the way back in the OP, it looks like we have hit a fork in the road, one leading to a surf route and the other leading to some kind of blue dot. Either that or I have no idea where we are right now.

SparksBlade I personally vote for Zarel to give us Meloetta :)
