Probopass (LV 2 Sturdy Abuse)

I saw this, and then came up with a similar poke. It doesn't have the HP regeneration of Probopass, but it can be pulled off with slightly less prediction.

CLEFABLE LV 1 @ Focus Sash
Magic Guard
~Endevour
~Return

This is a set for a sandstorm/hail team. Switch in on a guaranteed stat up move, then use endeavor. The hail/sandstorm will finish the opposing pokemon off. The nice thing about Clefable is that it has Magic Guard, so it won't take damage from entry hazards, poison, burn, etc. However, this is a one-trick pony, but prediction is heavily lessened. Pick your downside. Endeavor is also a 4th gen tutor move exclusively, if I recall.
For that use Aron, it haves sturdy(focus sash), steel type for poison and sandstorm, haves ploblems with hazards but compensates in having healing with leaftovers (with can delete one hazard problem) or shell bell (which 100% heals with endevour and makes study useful again).

clefable has magic guard wich makes her immune to hazards and status.
it only works one time but you don't need Rapid Spin support if you use her.

The problem with Aron is that Hail does damage, as does Burn, Pain Split, Leech Seed, Nightmare, Curse, etc.

You know, Clefable learns Magic Coat in Gen. 4. So it has another advantage over Aron. It can bounce back Stealth Rock, Taunt, Encore, Spike, Toxic Spike, Whirlwind, Roar, etc.

Clefable also gets Recycle, so if you Leech Seed a foe, and then switch to Clefable safely through a stat up/non-damaging move, then it can use Recycle to stall with Leech Seed healing it. (You don't want to use Endeavor with Leech Seed because it will then kill the foe, but only heal you 1 HP, so it is best to just Recycle as Leech Seed does the damage) repeatedly.

Oh god, I actually faced one of these Probopasses. The thing had Toxic Spikes support, and there was literally nothing I could do because the Steels on my team were dead, and I had nothing to Burn it with (even if I did, it could just Magic Coat the Will-O-Wisp back at me while Toxic eats away at my health).

This thing is a massive pest. With Toxic Spikes it's absolutely evil.

However, since Probopass is awesome, I'm proud to say that I got my ass handed to me by baby Mario. This fucker doesn't even need Yoshi.

When I was facing one it was brought out end game... Let's just say this...

Level 2 Strudy Abuse + Pain Split + Steel (My Steel)= 30 Minutes of my life wasted in a struggle war.

Hey doesnt anyone think that the Aron abuses Sturdy much better?

Aron @ Shell Bell
Sturdy Lvl 1
- Endeavour
- Protect

Doesnt this do the job much better? With the same Toxic Spikes and Sandstorm support, this only requires 1 turn to kill those who aren't immune to the passive damage. Has the exact same weaknesses as Probopass but only takes a single turn to use. Not my idea. Was mentioned before in this thread but nobody seemed to take notice of this. First seen in some BW Warstory posted here.

it does have advantages, but also doesnt get magic coat, which can be problematic

Set Name: Pain Stall
Probopass: @ Leftovers [Hail / Stealth Rock negation]
Ability: Sturdy
EVs, & IVs: 0, & 0. [Probopass has 14 HP; 1 layer of Spikes/Leech Seed/Burn = 1 damage not 2 so it's negated by Leftovers without Protect. 5 Speed =Trick Room abuse]
Nature: (+ SpA, -Spe) [Trick Room ulities]

~Magic Coat [Reflects: Leech Seed, W-o-w, Swagger, etc.]
~Pain Split [Hurts foes, heals user through Taunt; keeps Sturdy active]
~Protect [Causes damage and switches]
~Torment / Taunt [Either play with {Protect + Torment for stall and phazing}, or stop Trick Room, Recover, etc.]

I have found through play testing that Protect is a must to heal off SR and Spikes damage, plus it also pairs well with Torment to cause switches (especially against Choiced foes, as lack of Taunt is made up for with Magic Coat for the most part. Torment also works against all foes, and moves, not just the non-damaging ones.

This set is very effective, but still, some of the things that beat this set are:
Hail
Multi-Hit Moves
Will-o-Wisp
Trick/Switcheroo
Life Gamble
Mold Breaker Pokemon
Magic Guard Pokemon

Not saying by any means that it's bad, but you can see that it has a few more weaknesses than you think it does.

A lot of the things on this list are uncommon, but still, Cloyster usage will go up because of Shell Break, Technician Breloom (if it ever exists) will have Bullet Seed. Ononokusu's EQ is also going to be common.

There are a lot of Pokemon with Trick, however.

Well Magic Guard pokemon don't really stop this. You can weaken them enough and then switch out. 1 on 1 yea they win, but they can't really do anything until pain split doesn't work anymore.

or does magic guard prevent pain split from working?

"magic guard prevent pain split from working"

You answered your own question.

Hail is negated by Leftovers
(I.e. Probopass takes an Abomasnow's Blizzard, then Pain Splits back to Full health; then Hail hits it for 1 damage only to be healed back by Leftovers).

So it is only a problem with entry hazard damage, which can be negated by Rapid Spin, Magic Mirror allies like Espeon, or even Probopass using Magic Coat/Taunt against them. Leech Seed, or Wish can also be used to pass healing to Probopass provided it doesn't get hit (i.e. Also having a Substitute, or Baton Passing second).

No Magic Guard doesn't prevent it from working, actually Pain Split heals the user, without causing damage to the Magic Guard enemy.

It doesn't hurt your foe, but you can still out stall them with Pain Split till they must use Struggle (ironically they do take Struggle recoil; an exception to Magic Guard's effect, even though other recoil moves/items fail to hurt).

Protect can scout for W-o-w, which can be Magic Coated, just like Leech Seed. Also Trick doesn't ruin Probopass, if it ends up getting Tricked into Pain Split, it could just keep using Pain Split if the foe only has 3 other Attacks (like Trick Lati@s). Trick, W-o-w, Leech Seed, etc. can also be Taunted by Probopass on the switch in.

I like using this simply to make beating noobs easier. It nearly eliminates hax, and can obliterate a team that was not built well.

Haha, ironically I compare this to Shedinja... It can work against foes that have heavy offense oriented move sets, but requires a lot of support.

i want to quit pokemon now
i was up 6-0 and this thing came out, the guy had 2 layers of tspikes but i didnt really mind too much since i had my whole team and he only had one poke left.
i proceed to lose my entire team to this fucker.
holy crap this thing is ridiculous

I tried this set out a while ago with tspikes and sand (and wish) support, and loved it. Except I used protect over taunt, since my prediction isnt as good and i consider getting taunted or burned or such not as bad as 1 big misprediction (ie they attack instead of taunting) and at least it adds toxic/spikes damage. also if you manage to keep enough layers off the field it checks any non-steel/rock/ground not hit by toxic spikes

problem is if you switch it in on 1 layer of spikes, this thing gets destroyed. It cannot finish off sand resisters, so you should be packing priority.

Any thing with fake out pretty much shuts it down unless it protects. If i see on i keep kojondo alive untill it can flinch it and then use whatever to kill it.

Yeah, I think Protect works over Toxic as well... And Taunt can be replaced with Torment to abuse Protect, or screw Choiced foes.

im just going to say ttar or hippowdon for the sandstorm then let it die send in aron lv 1 with stury and endevor and a shell bell it wont die easely not even priorety will get rid of it

But this thread is about Probopass, not Aron. ._.

IMO Probopass seems to rely on a whole shitload of prediction, and if you are interested in a FEAR user Aron is better, but has more counters. When played right though Probobass is a son-of-a-b****.

So I made a list using April 2011 ranked OU stats.
I took the top 100 used, and put marks beside their names

+ If the field is set up with Sand and 2 layers of Toxic Spikes, the Probopass user should beat this poke one on one with perfect prediction.

- Even with 2 layers of Toxic Spikes and Sandstorm support, Probopass will not beat this poke one on one with perfect prediction.

* Going strictly by typing and abilities, Probopass should win one on one with perfect prediction. However, this poke commonly carries a set that counters standard lv2 probo (Restalking, Multi-hit moves, Sub+Leftover+ Toxic Spikes immunity, etc.)

I think the most important bit of information this data supplies, is that of the about 23 pokes naturally immune to the set, 7 of them are in the top 10 usage.

How does Garchomp counter this set? It is not Immune to Toxic Spikes, and is affected by Pain Split... It doesn't carry Taunt, and is often carrying a Scarf or Life Orb (which adds 10% damage).
