lol. Some of us are roped into it by our girliefriends.

I'm gonna try to pull off a "twilight"-esque look, seeing as I do the Edward hairstyle very well (I've ben told). Works out well with our theme this year; "Diamonds in the Sky"

When I was going to grad like 5 years ago, I couldn't get a date at all in my highschool. So, I did a one up- I found the hottest girl I could at a mall, picked her up and brought her. Not only were all the bros pretty upset that I brought a far hotter girl, but she turned out to be bisexual by the end of the night. The only downside was she spent her whole evening after the formal dance trying to convince a fat chick that she wasn't fat after my friend rejected said fatty for sex.

I then spent the rest of the night playing mariokart 64, good times.

yup, I already got everything planned out.

I'd advise u to just go and ask lol. even if you look like the hunchback of notre dame, most of the girls are worrying about not getting asked at all. the later you ask, the more this works to your advantage, as most will be desperate to go with anyone. on the other hand, asking early has the advantage that all the cute ones arent gone and u wont be stuck with someone that looks like petey piranha.

just go for the reaches first man. the worst thing that could happen is she says no. i went for 3 reaches myself, one of which was so far out of my league that she just started laughing after i asked her which made me start to laugh as well because i knew it wasn't going to happen . one of them did however say yes, unfortunately she took longer than any human should (which probably means she didnt get asked by anyone else hahaha save me for a last ditch effort bitch) and i had already asked someone else who said yes right away.

i would lean towards asking earlier than later because the cute girls will get asked unless you have a ridiculous girl/ boy ratio.

you should also keep in mind that unless your date is as stiff as a board and has a heart of ice/ hates fun you will have a good time no matter who you go with.

unless you dropped your standards into a deep dark abyss then you will probably want to shoot yourself in the bathroom

Damn I really wanna go to my schools proms, but I can not dance to save my life :(
neither can I, all you do is go there, eat whatever food is there and let your girl dance with a bunch of morons. Remember, if you picked a reasonable one, she'll still be leaving with you.

I intend to go to my grad and just get drunk with my friends then go to my music teacher's house and play poker while gambling for random valuables. It's basically a tradition for my school lol. Though if I manage to find a nice girl, I'll go with her. One pro is since my school is catholic we get to have a bar in our gym so I can't get in trouble for drinking anyway ^^

but yeah I agree with morm, high school grads in Alberta are pretty stale. I'm not sure what you do in the states to make it so exciting, but here it's just dancing in the gym while having booze.

I'm sure the social alienation of not going to prom with a date is far worse in the US (I'm just assuming this, to be honest), but I've noticed in Canadian high schools it's not necessarily that big of a deal (though there is a social ineptitude and lack of prom date positive correlation). Many people go with their friends as dates (at least, the girls consider their dates to be only friends :P), or go with a date for the sake of having a date. I had no girlfriend or particular crushes, nor was I interested in bringing a date along, thus being obliged, to a certain extent, to be with her more so than other girls/people.

So I said fuck it: I put on a superman costume (I later took it off and rocked my regular suit which was underneath, though it would have been cooler if I ripped my suit apart in the middle of the dance floor to reveal my costume) and hit on anything that could move. I took advantage of the lack of obligation between dates and basically flirted with and danced with any girl that would accept me, often angering some of my buddies. I didn't mind; most of my "buddies" were douchebags, since I played on the baseball team and high school athletes are, by nature, mostly compromised of douchers. Man, I'm so glad I'm out of high school.

I was surprised to have any success with the girls at prom, to be honest. It had to have been the cape. Or maybe it was because I was stoned out of my mind. I was, despite what I may be suggesting, afraid of the reception in regards to the outfit that I wore for the first hour or so. I mean, if people find it funny, it's great. If not, then I just feel really awkward and get no love form the ladies, since I would be the loser who tried too hard. If I had to take a similar risk now, I wouldn't do it.

Well, there's my unlikely prom story. Morm's seems a bit more impressive, though.

My prom date was a bitch. Then i told her she was a bitch. As you can probably guess we don't talk anymore.

If I could do it over again I would've asked the #2 girl on my list. We were good friends and had dated before. We even ended up dating again the summer after I graduated. She would've been a solid choice, we'd probably still be dating now if I had asked her. Another thing I might've done was ask the most random girl I could find who I knew was attracted me. That probably would've made for a more pleasant night than what I had. Good luck to you guys.

I went without one, and sat with my friends who didn't have one. It was all cool. Most of us when there just to have fun chatting i guess.

I'm gay, and don't have a date. Even if I did, I wouldn't be able to take him. It sucks.

But i'm not gonna let anything ruin my night. I'm gonna have fun, no matter what. Being pessimistic about prom was never my thing.

What's a "prom"?

Also, what KnightoftheWind said - education is more important than social life and the pressures of each one mean that I can't have both.

Yeah can someone from probably the states explain what pr0m is?
It has something to do with dating?

Can't get into a really top college w/o a social life however ;)

What do you guys think about asking people in lower grades? There is a realllly pretty sophmore girl in my orchestra, and I'm thinking about asking her out.
Nothing wrong with it. If she's good looking and you think you guys will have a fun time, go for it.

I'm not going to my school's real prom, I'll be gone at the FRC World Championships during it.

I'm going to the FIRST Robotics Competition RoboProm in Atlanta. Hopefully with someone from my robotics team.

You know, just in case you couldn't tell from being a competitive Pokémon battler that I'm a nerd.

Damn I really wanna go to my schools proms, but I can not dance to save my life :(
Ability to dance doesn't really matter at all except for slow dances (read: not shit done at high school proms), the fact that you have the balls to do SOMETHING will get you major cool points, no matter how retarded you look.

A prom is a school dance that is held for the senior (grade 12) class by the junior class (grade 11). Typically only these two classes are alowed to go, unless an upperclassman escorts or is escorted by an underclassman.

People get all dressed up (Tuxedos and Dresses), go out to dinner beforehand (in a group or as a couple), adn then go to the location of the dance. It's less about the dancing and more about eh fun of the night, as this dance is typically the final dance the seniors have in their high school careers.

That's not necessarily true and it varies from school to school. My school allows all grades to go and technically holds prom for the junior class, some schools hold it for the senior class, etc.

I don't remember prom as being all that special. This is not helped by the fact that my gf at the time decided to start cheating on me less than 2 weeks later. Really, now I don't look back on it as anything more than a giant waste of money.

What's this about Jimbo going to prom with an "escort?" ;)

Heh, do you live around where I do too? I don't know if it's the entertainment we see, but prom seems to be such a big deal in the States compared to Canada. For us, it's just one large last social event to dance and talk with our friends/teachers in our last year of high school. I just went with a bunch of friends. Asked the dj to play Numa Numa but they didn't ;_; We got YMCA though XD
