Most of you know the drill by now, but if you don't: viability rankings are a method of sorting Pokemon in a given tier based on how good they are in said tier. S rank is reserved for the defining Pokemon of the tier, while E rank is the place for unviable Pokemon that have no worthwhile use in the metagame. As the metagame changes, the rankings are periodically updated by players who are well-versed in the tier. Note that unlike other tiers, the B+, A-, A, A+, and S ranks in PU are ordered by viability, not alphabetically. Within every other rank, Pokemon are listed alphabetically.

Do not post one-liners in this thread. Unless it is an exceptional sentence that is able to justify or explain something in a few words, one-liners rarely contribute anything of value to a thread. For NFEs not already included in the viability rankings (or even already included): put the effort into actually investigating its uses in the metagame and providing substantial FACTS and REPLAYS to prove your point before you post. Opinions contribute very little to the discussion if they do not have something to back them up, nor do posts that look at a single point and ignore everything else that has been said. When arguing for a Pokemon's ranking, account for opposition, and do not attempt to ignore the drawbacks of a Pokemon either.

For this thread, remember this: it is not on the community to do the research and debating for your proposed change. If you want something to rise, drop, or be added, please do the work to gather the evidence.

I strongly disagree with Servine in C. it's not weaker than Wartortle ftr because Wartortle doesn't invest in SpA and doesn't have a spammable 130bp move. I underestimated it at first as well when Teddeh first brought it to face me but Servine is actually a pretty good cleaner on a SW team. SW helps patch up its middling Speed and deal with Pokemon like Ninetales and Tauros which would originally have easily revenge killed it, and Leaf Storm is just so spammable as it is essentially a free NP while damaging your opponent. After just one Leaf Storm boost it can clean up very easily and what sets it apart from other mons like Simisage is the fact that it can boost while whittling down opponents. For example Ninetales is KOed by 2 Leaf Storms after SR and an unboosted Leaf Storm already does 60% min to Naive Tauros. In addition it can set up on a lot of weak special hits: Poliwrath for instance cannot even OHKO with Ice Beam.

Granted it has its fair share of hard counters and absolutely needs SW to perform at its best, but I don't think that should stop it from being B- or B.

Other noms:
Electrode from B- --> C: Electrode isn't /that/ good. Its sole niche is maybe a rain setter but it's mostly a waste of space tbh as it is forced to run only Electric moves which means it can't actually check a lot of Pokemon, and the slot can easily be filled with something else.

Ninjask from C+ --> B-: CB sets are decent and baton pass sets haven't lost any effectiveness

Gourgeist-XL from A- --> B+: Gourgeist-XL doesn't have much over Tangela in my opinion. It still loses to common offensive spinners, is quite passive and I don't really see a very solid niche for it especially when most Tangela baits also happen to beat Gourgeist.

Agree with Jumpluff to B+

Agree with Raichu to A, it's a fast Electric type that can beat most Ground types while Volt Switch is great for momentum

I think A+ is a little bit to much for our Naruto friend. I think A rank or B+ Should be a generous spot for him.

More likely because the throhs you were facing were max hp max sp. def and careful nature hence making you think that, but that set died out as the meta changed. standard throh is 192 HP / 252 Atk / 32 Def / 32 SpD with adamant nature.

TRC just nommed it for B+, but it deserves more imo. Sleep is gr8, it's an amazing check to kek and can speed tie tauros so it has a decent matchup against the two brokenmons, momentum jumpluff is annoying af, and even a bulkier synthesis set is probably decent. Then there's SD, which is just an amazing cleaner right now. Basically everybody knows what this does, I just think it deserves higher for it, it's certainly better than Basculin and Victreebel.
Also why is Gourgeist-XL nommed to drop? It counters tauros and switches in on 3/4 of Poliwrath's moves, and checks/counters all of kek, carracosta, leafeon, Golem, Piloswine, barbaracle, marowak, Raichu, Leafeon, Armaldo... defensively it's really good right now and differentiates itself from tangela with foul play, will-o-wisp, and the ability to stay in and synthesis rather than switch out for recovery. With it's great bulk and useful typing, I see no reason to drop it right now.

This is pretty funny because someone in the chatroom was complaining about how Jumpluff was broken because its Sleep Powder hits all the time lol
But yeah, I agree, I can see it being A- since it can be so annoying and is a good revenge killer, though a starting point could be B+

I've tested Servine a bit, and I think it's in between what people have been saying. On webs it's actually quite threatening, but it still hates common mons such as Jumpluff and Rotom. Outside of webs though, it's nothing special at all, and usually just 2HKOes something with Leaf Storm and takes 70-80% in return or gets revenge killed afterward. However, it definitely isn't weak, and can be threatening under the right conditions. In most battles, it really doesn't do all that much though. On a side note, I think Glare is a fantastic move on it, as it lets you paralyze faster things that try to switch into unboosted Leaf Storm, like Jumpluff and Ninetales, and then 2HKO them the next time they try to switch in. I think Servine should be somewhere around B- rank based on what I've said in this post.

Also, I would like more opinions on whether Jumpluff should be B+ or A-, since I'm pretty torn on it.

Dont use the horrible fake out sets, however nasty plot is actually quite nice in this meta. Although 60 base spatk may seem bad, it is actually decent at +2 with life orb, it can ohko tangela with a +2 hyper voice. It has amazing coverage eg dark pulse/water pulse/tbolt and base 90 hidden powers due to technitian, and a set of np/hyper voice/hp dark/water pulse (or similar moves) hits the whole tier neutrally. You can even run sub to dodge priorities/help vs scarfers, although its base 115 speed is enough to naturally outspeed all but 2 relevant mons.

Dont use the horrible fake out sets, however nasty plot is actually quite nice in this meta. Although 60 base spatk may seem bad, it is actually decent at +2 with life orb, it can ohko tangela with a +2 hyper voice. It has amazing coverage eg dark pulse/water pulse/tbolt and base 90 hidden powers due to technitian, and a set of np/hyper voice/hp dark/water pulse (or similar moves) hits the whole tier neutrally. You can even run sub to dodge priorities/help vs scarfers, although its base 115 speed is enough to naturally outspeed all but 2 relevant mons.

Also promote zeb but i g2g

Run round>Hyper voice, you get more PP and can bypass subs.
Also Fake out sets are not bad, just outclassed like fuck by Purugly

There is no reason to use this. It's a worse lapras who's only niche is a fire resist, but ninetails has energy ball, flareon has superpower, and heatmor has giga drain anyway. It also doesn't have the things that make lapras unique (thunderbolt/water absorb/dragon dance), so why would I use it over any other fire resist?

I know this just dropped but this thing is bad. Zebstrika has a better ability and overheat, while having the same spat and enough speed to outspeed pretty much the entire unboosted tier anyway.

Basculin from B to B+

Lately I just played a lot Magnemite's sample team, featuring dark spam and Basculin, and I just got surprised that the fish is actually a really decent and unpredictable revengekiller and cleaner on Hyper Offense teams since most of the opponents' teams were not prepared to it. With an All-Out Attacker set he can 2HKO many pokémons in the tier, thanks to Adaptability plus STAB Waterfall and Aqua Jet, still carrying good coverage with Zen Headbutt and Superpower/Ice Beam, which screws most of the bulky grass pivots like Tangela. Nothing more to say really, just a good Glass Cannon that I think deserves to get higher in the ranks, since his base atk and speed stats aren't bad too for the tier either.

Rapidash from B- to B

During the Buried Treasure this week I had the opportunity to try this horse and dug into its potential, theorymoning, building teams with it and experiencing various sets, which is the main goal of the project. It was a surprise for me because even with the Stealth Rock weakness it worked beautifully and made wonders into my team as a Fire Check, thanks to its good Coverage(I wanna highlight Drill Run so you can answer back to Fire Pokémons if you go in to check them) and Morning Sun recovery(shoutout to Anty and galbia for making me discover the set). Charcoal/Flame Plate makes you hit very hard with your Flame Blitz, which most of the time is the move you'll use, even if you're not Choice Band, another set that is good on Rapidash, and you don't have Flash Fire boost, if you do even better. It can also run Will-O-Wisp so you can stall or force the switch of dangerous threats. Its base speed makes it outspeed most of the pokémons in the tier, so that makes it work as a Revengekiller more than a Wallbreaker, and its atk with his coverage is enough to rip through common bulky grass and walls.

What do you all think of dropping Mr. Mime out of the A ranks. I've tried it on several teams and it's always sucked really hard. It lacks enough power to KO most things, it's too slow to outspeed stuff without a Scarf (which it then can't kill), and it's super frail, getting KOed by Knock offs from the fighting mons it should check and taking at most one attack from threats like Ninetales. It's just really not good at all.

Lickilicky back to A Rank: Idk why Lickilicky dropped in the 1st place. I mean, it's probably the most important pokemon of PU Stall alongside Misdreavus. It has a great bulk allowing to wall a lot of threats, and the lack of fighting types, even if they are awesome, plays in Lickilicky's favor. Also, since Bouffalant is now gone, Lickilicky can also shine by some offensives sets like Banded or Swords Dance, seriously give these sets a chance, you'll see that they work & isn't outclassed ( anymore )

Gogoat for B: Sub BU Gogoat is pretty damn great and honestly, quite underrated, idk why ppl don't give him more credit. It has an exellent bulk, allowing him to set up on a variety of pokemons, it's typing isn't exactly the best, but it has some useful resistances, & sap slipper is very cool too.

Monferno for B-/B: Idk why Monferno didn't move up with Megazard's nomination earlier, but i'll bring it back. Monferno's quite great in the lead departure, with his access to taunt, very good coverage in the lead departure & priority, and endeavor too. Also 81 Speed is very enjoyable in a tier where the fastest lead have like, 68 at best.

I do agree it isnt as effective as it was first hyped to be, however it should be a- at a minimum. Nasty plot set is average, but scarf is clearly the best, and the reason why it so nice is because of how well it pair with sweepers. Healing wish is amazing, as not only does it allow a poke like costa to have a second chance, but it also supports pokes like rock polish torterra, who i personally use as an electric type switch in knowing how weakened it gets i can always bring it back and have it sweep. Trick and BP are also nice, as it can lure pokes like licki/togetic in and then trick to help its special team mates, or bp to a sweeper to let it set up on a specific wall. Despite this i do feel it is too high, as a bug job of a scarfer is revenge killing, and it is pretty bad at that considering it struggles RKing pokes like ninetales, and isnt too hard to switch into.

Yes, lickilicky is a staple on stall, but a big problem of this is that stall is pretty much unviable. There are too many strong pokes that stall has to watch out for, some like tauros, arent too hard to check, but require missy (which is a nice spinblocker, but gourgeist would often be preffered), but then there are other common pokes that are hard to wall, ninetales, you need zweilous, grumpig, or a well trained bslam lickilicky, and leafeon, which flat out 6-0s almost every stall team with rocks up. Then there are less common threats like ursaring, marowak, etc. Lickilicky also doesnt really fit into other playstyles, as most 'balance' team are in fact offense with a poke to remove hazards, and even then licki doesnt work. To be honest im surprised it is this high, at least other stall mons like clefairy can work on different playstyles.

Gojoke too dislikes how offensive the meta is, if you made the nom when tspikes were everywhere and bulky playstyles where better i would support, but currently it just lacks too many set up opportunities as the meta is so offensive. Strong pokes like tauros give it hard times setting up (ik you dont try and set up on it, but a lot of teams are filled with pokes like this), then there are others like ninetales who just laugh at non eq varients. Most teams these days that run a wall or two (muh balance), often use pokes like avalugg, and piloswine which you cant set up on, but then again there is the odd togetic you can on. When using gogoat i just feel like it is too underwhelming in power, grass STAB is nice, but horn leach is weak considering you have other options like CB torterra wood hammer, and i really feel like the meta is out to get grass types, looking at every ice beam water type. Then again it is better than the majourity of b- rank mons like kricketune, maybe my standards are just too high for b-rank(?), its also because whatever moveset i run is always bad; mon grass coverage is p bad, then grass + ground you dont have sub or recovery and torterra exists :(, and if im using this as an electric check i might as well use rose.

Im not too sure on monferno though, as yes it beats other leads (for the record 71 is the next best speed, and that is lord bibarrel), but a lot of the time i would want a rocker + spiker like dwebble. Also HO is a risky playstyle in this meta with titans like kecleon and tauros screwing it up completely. B- seems alright, but B seems too high for such a mon

Floatzel-> B
I have no clue why it was b- rank earlier, as the only set i would bother using on a serious team is ironically the specs set (bulk up pass is more of a c/c+ set). This thing has the speed to beat almost the entire meta, and power along with coverage to screw any type of switch in. This is great against offensive teams which are the best rn, and it also beats a lot of the walls balance relies on, like pelipper. I might just be hyping this bcus muh innovation, but it is really good and actually works.

Zebstrika-> B+
Yes i know i made a post in the NP thread about these two mons, but it does not show i have a fetish for them, but rather they are actually good in this meta. Zebstrika's base 116 speed is phenomenal in this meta, as high speed are very important for an offensive based tier, so beating the dreaded 115's are just amazing. Most teams just lack anything for this, as pokes like torterra may seem like a cool raichu check, but not for this, and piloswine may look like a cold stop, but no hp grass 3hkos (well hp grass*2 then overheat), and most pilo switch in, then srocks predicting a switch. This isnt that much worse than raichu, it loses a small amount of power for a Fire move, allowing it to get past grass's like roselia, and crucial speed tier ahead of the 110's and 115's

Marowak-> B+
Sadly the good old times are over. There is no putting this on your team as an offensive rocker which also is important for breaking stall and mushy, its more like putting this on your team in hopes it puts at least some work. Sadly the meta is just too adapted to it, an effective base 200 attack (or w/e) doesnt mean much with a base 45 speed. This fits in the same boat as floatzel, a terribly scary wallbreaker with a lack of solid checks (at least torterra beats wak), but it trades in priority and a better speed tier for more attack and stealth rocks.

Hear me out on this. Marowak is a pretty underrated Pokemon, with decent 60/110/80 bulk, a good movepool, and such. But really what makes it good is Thick Club. Thick Club is basically a Huge Power boost, making its 284 total attack essentially a whopping 568. Combine this with a stab move that breaks Sturdy, Focus Sashes, and Substitutes, and hits with the same power as Earthquake, Marowak is pretty threatening. Though it is held back by its low speed tier, leaving it able to be revenged rather easily thanks to its weakness to some very common types in the current metagame, as well as not being able to secure the 2HKOs it needs against things like Poliwrath and Leafeon, among other things.
But as it was said before, Marowak is basically uncounterable, just because of its sheer power and coverage moves. It is a good rock setter, great wallbreaker, SD to boost its already massive attack stat, and generally just a great Pokemon. Plus the tier shifts worked in its favor, having more things to threaten, and one less thing to live its Bonemerangs. Overall, I think this is enough to raise it to A rank, though I could be wrong on this.

You mention all these positive things about how strong it is and how hard it is to switch into, but you fail to mention its main flaw, and the reason why it isnt used much; its low speed. In a primarily offensive metagame, speed is incredibly important for a mon to put in work against offensive playstyles (the most common), so marowak often find itself being revenge killed by faster pokes like simipour, and you cannot just simply switch out, as pokes like simipour are impossible to switch into for offensive teams which marowak is mainly situated. Its nice defense is neutered by its poor hp and average special defense, and pretty much every offensive mon can 2HKO, and a lot can ohko considering it is weak to grass, water, and ice, three common types. SD is a horrible option on marowak, as the only opportunity it has to SD up is on switches, which can either RK it or will get 2HKOd, and then another mon will revenge kill it. Marowak also receives a lot of competition from other pokes like golem, who has a secondary STAB and access to priority, or custap boom, torterra, who also has a secondary typing, and more bulk allowing it to check pokes lik raichu and pawniard, and piloswine, who also has priority and bulk. Marowaks main niche is power, which is much more important in the garbo and mush meta, where defensive playstyles where common and decent. The only place i can see this moving is down.

Now for another nom
Torterra to a-
Torterra is a great pokemon in this meta as it can successfully perform multiple roles which check many scarf pokemon. Tank sets are my personal favourite, and that is because it is such a nice casual switch in to so many pokes, like pawniard, raichu, and physical wrath. Access to stealth rocks is also nice considering it has many opportunities to set them up as it forces switches, and synthesis also helps its walling capabilities. This also hits hard af, 2HKOing bulky pokes like pelipper without a boosting item nor super effective hit, and the only pokes that can switch into it are avalugg, if not running stone edge, and tangela (and other bulky grass's). These all hate toxic, which is an underrated move for it.Rock polish sets are also amazing sweepers due to how little can take hits from it, and those who can, like tangela, are easy to bait in with team mates, however ice shard users are still pains for it. The offensive lead set is also great, as unlike many leads, it can still be used successfully through the battle thanks to its nice typing and natural power. It is hard to compare this to other mons due to how many roles it takes, but i feel piloswine is the most comparable (tank set). Piloswine has more bulk and priority, while torterra has access to recovery with synthesis and leftovers, and more power thanks to a more reliable secondary stab, and a slightly higher speed which is important, as piloswine is more of a benchmark for pokes like kecleon. Their secondary typing also allows them to check different pokemon, as piloswine can switch into ice types, and fears fires less, while torterra has an easier time against specific water and electric types, along with opposing grounds.
