[Rock] Leader ZhengTann versus Challenger jayelt413

You walk towards a stone henge, having spotted a small stone hut right beside it that is the residence of the Gym Leader. By now you're experienced in travelling to know that this regions is unique in that their Gym Leaders come in all shapes, sizes and social classes - some living on cruise ships, others in cemeteries, yet others in.... Let's just say the Gym League here either has a tight and biased budget, is an eccentric bunch, or both.

As you walked closer to the henge, you can feel as if these rocks simply jutted, or grew, out of the ground, as if they've stood there for eons, without work of man. Even the beams above the pillars seemed to be molded, not placed. But.... how?

"The answer, of course, lies in languages,"
"Gyah!!"

You screamed like a girl and jumped in shock, as the Leader appears beside you out of nowhere.

"Hi, I'm Wukong. I assume you're here for the Badge?"

You nodded, heart still racing from the scare, almost couldn't take it, and his face splits into a grin.

"I bet you have all the team you need to win this. Let's get started then!"

He ran ahead, touching a pillar as he crossed the threshold. The whole henge immediately glowed with.... Unown Runes??

"Come on, let's have a blast! As long as we battle within the Unown Rock Henge, we'll be fine!"
Format

7 Substitutions per round (excluding KO subs of course)
1 Mega-Evolution
Switch = OK
Items = MEGA-STONES ONLY
Turn Order = COIN-FLIP
Arena mechanics
1. All Rock-types get Rock Head if they don't already have it.
2. The move Rock Slide has 30% chance to summon Stealth Rock onto the field instead of the original 30% flinch chance.
3. All defensive moves listed under Rock STAB gain +4 Priority instead of the original +1.
4. No external rock, water, or grass sources.
5. No seismic combos allowed.
6. Camouflage turns user into Rock-type, Nature Power calls Ancient Power, and Secret Power may lower Speed by one (1) stage.

"So, we have a new Gym Leader? Let's see what he carries. Can he carry himself to victory?"
ZhengTann's Team
Stratagem - Erza (U)

A swordsman wields the blade with graceful precision, just as Erza uses her attacks with dangerous beauty. She walked in on one of Gray and Natsu’s brawls, and the resulting free-for-all wore on for half a day before Zheng can subdue her with a Pokeball. Unknowingly for her, that fight left a lasting impression on the two – they’re cautious almost to the point of fearful whenever in her company since then. Wendy and Charla looks up to her as a role model, though, and it was Erza who took care of them, even though she was newer to the family.

Chargestone Cave is the hallowed ground for all of Erza's ancestry, yet she decides that she will withhold her instincts to evolve for the sake of her family. Small but close-knit, everyone looks up to Erza as the big sister, even though her quirks with boys sometimes astonished the girls and make the shy ones (like Juvia and Wendy) blush. After a series of long, drawn out clashes with Mirajane, both of them seemed to have settled to a cordial relationship, mutually agreeing to avoid mentioning the past conflicts, opting instead to look after the girls together and knock the boys down a peg or two when they get too loud.

It wasn't until the strawberry cake event that Erza finally found the courage to overcome her fear. The truth was, she was scared of shouldering her responsibility being a full-grown Stratagem, relying more and more on the rest of the family despite the lads' deferment to her leadership and skills. Resolving to do whatever it takes to protect herself and those around her, she secretly learn how to manipulate the nature from Mirajane, and the two became very fast friends. Although, Mirajane seems to have picked up some of Erza's racy quirks as well...

Nature: Modest (+1 SpA, -1 Atk)

Type:
Rock type: Rock STAB; Adds an additional level of Priority (+0 to +1, +3 to +4 etc.) on naturally occurring level-up, egg, tutor, or TM attacks that increase only defense, special defense, or prevent damage (Full list: Acid Armor, Amnesia, Barrier, Defense Curl, Detect, Fast Guard, Harden, Iron Defense, Light Screen, Protect, Reflect, Skull Bash, Stockpile, Wide Guard, Withdraw). Reduced damage from all special attacks by 2 BAP during Sandstorm, immune to Sandstorm damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Levitate
Type: Passive
This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the all seismic moves. Earth Power will have 3 less BAP. Dig and Dive can still strike a Levitating Pokemon, but only if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Other Ground moves can still hit.

Ability 2: Technician
Type: Passive
This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their attacks that normally deal 6 or below base damage to have their base damage multiplied by 1.5. The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) damage, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2).

Ability 3: Mold Breaker (Unlocked)
Type: Passive
Whenever this Pokemon attacks, it emits an invisible, blindingly quick pulse preceding the attack that disables the opponents natural abilities (e.g. Levitators plummet towards the ground before Earthquake hits, Volt Absorb will not absorb electric attacks, Clear Body does not prevent stat-drops, etc.)

Rias Gremory, "Princess of Crimson Ruin" - Tyrantrum (F)

Rias is born to a rare family - one in which both her parents were present to take care of her. Before her, they already had a son - who grew up, evolved, and went away to stake his own territory. Being the younger "princess", Rias enjoyed all the privileges - and hardships - that her life as a future empress has to offer, before a cataclysm caused the death of herself and her whole family millions of years before the time of humans.

Being resurrected by Zheng, she is given to and named by Tanner as her Trainer, who somehow also hold another Jaw Fossil that can't be revived - probably because the piece held remnants of both her parents. It is rumoured that Rias' brother walks the earth again this same era that she does, however Rias does not know where to find him.

Evolving into her grown form, Rias still continues the search for her brother. And then she met Issei, then a young Charmander who knew nothing much about the world except the fire in his belly.... Who is just one of her "peerage" of Pokemons, each with stories of their own. She decides that it is high time she declared herself King, and she readies herself for the challenges of her very own monarchy by training relentlessly.

Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpAtk) - caring but stern

Type:
Rock type: Rock STAB; Rias is fast on her mind to add an additional level of Priority on Protect. She also takes reduced damage from all special attacks by two (2) Base Attack Power during Sandstorm, and is immune to Sandstorm damage. Her natural magic can mold and build rocks, ignoring Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.
Dragon type: Dragon STAB; -1 BAP on incoming neutral attacks Dragon itself would resist. Her powerful will allows Thrash or Outrage to be undisrupted by oncoming damage.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Strong Jaw
Type: Passive
Rias' thick fang and massive jaws give her incredibly powerful biting attacks, increasing the BAP of all biting attacks by three (3) BAP. Full List: Bite, Crunch, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Poison Fang, Thunder Fang.

Ability 2: Rock Head (Unlocked)
Type: Passive
Rias' body and willpower fortifies herself in battle, preventing it from taking recoil damage from moves such as Double-Edge, Flare Blitz, and Head Smash.

Vali Lucifer, "White Dragon Emperor" - Aerodactyl (M)

Born to a lineage of Aerodactyl, with lineages going back as far as time immemorial, Vali was one of the few exceptional case born with great potential. But only one of them. And so he struggled to rise far and above those before it, with the competitive spirit beyond what most would even comprehend. He would use every bit of strength at his disposal just to further his training, and to beat every strong opponent that not just stood in his way, but also those he actively seek out. Currently his long-term project involves resurrecting God to Its True Forme, and challenging it to combat.

Ability 2: Pressure
Type: Passive
Vali's lineage and raw power means his presence fills the air with intense anxiety, and any damaging or status attack launched at him would cost the his opponents two (2) more energy to perform without sufficient will to overcome his.

"So, the new leader has brought with him a Stratagem. Wise choice. Always a wise choice. And a Tyrantrum as well? Interesting. Tyrantrum brings with it an amazing ability to withstand some of the type's weaknesses. Without question, the new leader has brought an Aerodactyl, a pokemon all former leaders have carried. It is a bonafide stud. Strangely, there is a trio in this team. All belonging to Gogmagog. Whatever Gogmagog is, it might not be wise to associate the team with it. Rounding out the roster is the newly discovered Crucibelle. Not much is known about this Pokemon and I dare not venture a guess on its capabilities."

"And the challenger... I am not in the least bit surprised. The ever present Gallade and Bronzong return. Far too common amongst challengers. I cannot muster the will to speak further upon them. Better officials of old have spoken far longer on those two than I ever will. Joining the two is an Aegislash. A questionable choice. Yes, it does have bulk and it does have power. But it doesn't have the consistency one should bring to a battle with rocks. There is also a Clawitzer. A powerhouse amongst pokemon. But if one can counteract its specialty, one has nothing to fear. Rounding out this team is a Conkeldurr. I still think it looks like it was hit in the face with a shovel. It also looks like I should put away my flask."

"But where are my manners, I haven't introduced myself."

Akela appears to the side of the arena, riding on the back of Hyde the Rhydon.

"But then again, I don't think I need to do that, now do I?"

Akela gestures to Jayelt.
"Jayelt, are you ready?"

Akela gestures to ZhengTann.
"My successor, are you ready?"

"I hope you both are, because it is time to start this show!"

Heads, the Gym Leader sends out and equips first.
Tails, the Challenger sends out and equips first.

Best two out of three flips.

jayelt413 sends out his first two pokemon and equips the appropriate item, if applicable.

This gym battle started off with a fair bit of strategy. Ezra Protected itself from Bronzong's initial attack, but that was a mistake in the long run. Rias Gremory began by clamping down on God's Weapon as tight as it could. Really, Tyrantrum biting anything is basically misusing the jaws of life. Now if only it learned a stone bite or wyvern bite. That would be terrifying. Granted, it would never encounter anything it would need to use those moves on if it had them. God's Weapon prepared a physical barrier for its team to limit the damage it could receive from ZhengTann's team, even if only temporary. Liberty Bell started to spin quickly (how? Do not ask me. In my opinion, Liberty Bell shouldn't be considered alive. How the hell does a bell move? Or breath?) and struck Ezra's protective shield. It took a fair bit of energy on Ezra's part to protect itself.

Rias Gremory used its severe halitosis to ignite its mouth prior to using its Jaws of Life on God's Weapon. God's Weapon might have a shield, but that doesn't change the fact that it is dealing with the jaws of life. Speaking of God's Weapon, it stopped hiding behind its shield as it too started to spin quickly. It twirled and spun. It swung and rotated. It flipped. And it charged right at Ezra, dealing a terrible amount of damage. Liberty Bell consolidated its weight and it jumped into the air... HOW IN THE BLUE HELL DOES A F***ING BELL JUMP? I swear, I am going to have a meeting with the League's council to find out how this is possible. It's more probable that its trainer threw the three hundred and seventy-four kilogram bell into the air than the bell jumped. It has no way to jump. In the hell is that even possible? In any event, the bell fell on Ezra, crushing it and squishing it into paste.

The round ended itself with Ezra unconscious as Rias Gremory bit down on God's Weapon again, dealing a respectable amount of damage to it.

ZhengTann sends out his next pokemon, but does not order.

After the Gym Leader sends out his next Pokemon, the challenger, jayelt413, will issue the orders for his pokemon's action OR initiate a switch phase.

One error: Erza-Stratagem should be using Protect again on A2, as its first sub would be triggered fully, saving my team a little bit on HP on this one.

And the next round has begun. The Gym Leader sent out his Lunatone in a bait and switch set-up. Jayelt switched upon seeing Lunatone, allowing Zhengtann to switch into Cradily.

Rias Gremory bit hard into the Clawitzer, damaging it greatly. It would seem as though the Clawitzer was slightly paralyzed by it, too. Gogmagog's Right launched an Energy Ball at the Clawitzer, dealing a great deal of damage. The Clawitzer spat dragon juice at the Tyrantrum... how does shooting primal energy from the mouth get boosted by Mega Launcher? Shouldn't it come out of the Mega Launcher claw? Whatever. The Bronzong spread its ass cheeks and farted out a beam of silver light at the Tyrantrum. What? You don't like my description? How else would a Bronzong fire a beam of light?

Rias Gremory took down the Reflective barrier, dealing a small amount of damage to the Clawitzer. Cradily drained energy from the Clawitzer. Yada yada yada. I really don't feel that great guys. Don't expect fantastic flavor. It's more Pokemon A did Move C to Pokemon B at this point. Liberty Bell rammed itself head first into Tyrantrum, showing that beating anything with a bit of metal will cause some damage. Clawitzer was going to launch a massive sphere at the Tyrantrum, but it was paralyzed and unable to move.

The round ended with Tyrantrum biting Clawitzer again and Cradily draining the remaining energy from Clawitzer. The Bronzong put all of its wait into landing on Tyrantrum with a Heavy Slam, nearly knocking the Tyrantrum unconscious.

Clear enough.

".. Irrelevant to the battle at hand. Focus, Rias-"
Gogmagog's Right (Cradily): Barrier > Protect (transfer @ Rias-Tyrantrum) > Infestation (Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr)

Rias Gremory (Tyrantrum): Protect (self) > Thrash (Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr) > Thrash (Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr))

As much as I like the way this played out, it's not accurate.

A passed Protect is at 0 priority, which means Conkeldurr actually moves before the Protect occurs. Meaning it hits Conkeldurr with a Low Kick on A2, while Bronzong maintains its Zen Headbutt on Cradily.
This means that Conkeldurr should be using Low Sweep on Tyrantrum A3, scoring the KO, which makes Bronzong use Zen Headbutt on Cradily.

And we are back. ZhengTann's jurassic beast opts to protect itself as best as it can, diverting the Conkeldurr and Bronzong's attacks towards Cradily. But wait! The Cradily has erected a barrier protecting itself from all harm. It sure rendered that Punch and Headbutt pointless. Tyrantrum enrages itself and attacks Conkeldurr with a furor. But the Conkeldurr is quite prepared for the situation, taking out the Tyrantrum's legs from beneath it, dealing an amazing amount of damage. Cradily tried to protect the Tyrantrum, but it was just too slow. The Bronzong was able to deliver a beautiful headbutt to Cradily, dealing an unexpected amount of damage to it. Once more, Tyrantrum launched itself at the Conkeldurr, but its day was ended by another skillfully delivered leg sweep. Cradily summoned forth a number of insects smaller than Joltik and launched them at the Conkeldurr, trapping it in the battle. Mosquito bites just suck. Constant itching. The Bronzong delivered another headbutt to Cradily, but this one seemed a bit weaker.

Time to dust off my rust for a bit. Gogmagog's Core the Lunatone coming back in.

"Gear acquisition protocol underway..."

"Haven't got to fight God yet... There will always be other strong opponents though, as long as we can find them."
Switch phase initiated! Bringing in my fifth mon, Vali Lucifer the Aerodactyl w/ Aerodactylite, replacing Gogmagog's Right the Cradily. Counterswitch your Bronzong?

"For now though, let's just have you stay down."[/I]

Vali Lucifer (Aerodactyl): [Mega-Evolve] Aerial Ace > Wing Attack > Aerial Ace, all @ Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr
IF LB-Bronzong would use Chill, THEN replace that action with Taunt @ LB-Bronzong instead, pushing remaining queue back.
IF Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr is under the effects of Protective/Evasive moves, THEN replace that action with Crunch @ LB-Bronzong instead.
IF Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr would use a damaging Electric-type move @ Vali-Aerodactyl, THEN replace that action with Protect and the next with Sky Attack ONCE instead, pushing remaining queue back.
IF Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr is KO'ed, THEN replace that action with Crunch @ LB-Bronzong instead.

Gogmagog's Core (Lunatone): Psychic > Moonblast > Psychic, all @ Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr
IF Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr is under the effects of Protective/Evasive moves, THEN replace the first instance with @ LB-Bronzong instead.
IF Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr is under the effects of Endure AND NOT yet under the effects of Toxic, THEN replace that action with Toxic @ Cindersmasher Conkeldurr instead, pushing remaining queue back.
IF Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr would use a damaging Dark-type move @ Core-Lunatone, THEN replace that action with Reflect ONCE instead, pushing remaining queue back.

IF Cindersmasher-Conkeldurr is KO'ed, THEN replace the first instance with Reflect, and the second with Shadow Ball @ LB-Bronzong instead.
