I'm not sure if Anything Goes counts, but this was terrible.

  • Mixed Tyranitar with no STAB attacks (Dragon Claw and Flamethrower were used, but Ditto revealed Thunderbolt and Aqua Tail)

Small nitpick, that's actually Rampardos, not Cranidos. But still... Unnerve Tyranitar (I could understand if it was mega, but seeing this guy, probably not), Flame Body Talonflame, ugh.

Also, AG is fair game here. I've been doing it for months and haven't been infracted/deleted.

There are actually times when Detect is non-terrible. One of them is that anything that randomly decides to carry Imprison is less likely to know Detect than it is to know Protect. Detect's other advantage is that its chance of failure on consecutive uses never drops below 50%.

True, but what actually has Imprison other than Smeargle? Even if you did use Protect/Detect, it only delays the inevitable by 1 turn.

Actually, no it doesn't. According to Bulbapedia, anyway, it's exactly the same as Protect, except it has less PP, which is why it's garbage.

Interesting. I had been under the impression that Detect's minimum success rate was 50%. Looking at Bulbapedia, it appears that Detect had that behaviour only in Generation 4, and has not behaved that way before or since.

Also, Protect/Detect don't block Imprison anyway, since it targets the user and applies its effect to the opposing side as long as the user remains in the battle.
