Simon switches out Slaking for Sawsbuck, clearly distressed. He'd come so far, but in (what's probably the slowest possible) blink of an eye his efforts for Normal gym seemed to be slipping away. He begins to lose his cool and shouts "Just attack!" to his Pokemon. Sawsbuck responds, and the Porygon-Z just sits there waiting as Sawsbuck comes crashing into it with a Jump Kick.

Maxim looks on with confidence. He knew that in Simon's worry and haste, he'd overlooked something big. He told Porygon-Z to just take the hits, as even though he felt a twinge for causing his Pokemon pain, he knew it would be worth it by the end of the round. Sawsbuck goes in for a Horn Leech that causes a crit, sapping away some of Porygon-Z's vitality. The cyber duck continues to sit there, with energy boiling over that can hardly be contained.

Suddenly, Porygon-Z charges at Sawsbuck with aura overflowing! "Now Porygon-Z, use Bide!" Maxim commands, and in a flash Sawsbuck is hit with tremendous power. However, Sawsbuck still has some fight left in it, and goes for another Jump Kick. Both Pokemon look incredibly tired now, and I doubt that either will last too much longer.

Simon takes a moment to recompose himself. This is still a possible win for him, but he has to bring his top game. With resolve, he commands Sawsbuck to use Toxic as Porygon-Z begins to Endure. The poison saps away at Porygon-Z, though it manages to not faint immediately. Sawsbuck then looks up at the sunlight and recovers HP with Synthesis. It's in much better shape now, though still badly weakened. With Porygon-Z's final action, it distorts the arena with Trick Room before dropping to the poison. This seems to indicate what Maxim's fourth Pokemon will be... will it be enough to finish Simon off?

Maxim sends out his fourth Pokemon, Kimli the Snorlax! With Trick Room up, Snorlax has quite an advantage against the already weakened Sawsbuck. Using it's unnatural speed advantage, it crushes Sawsbuck with a Body Slam that deals hefty damage due to Snorax's massive weight. Sawsbuck takes the opportunity to scatter seeds all around Snorlax that begin to drain its energy. The Leech Seed should be helpful in the long run...

Snorlax, charged with the powers of justice, strikes to avenge Porygon-Z with an amazing Retaliate+Retaliate combo! I've never even seen anyone use Retaliate before, so that was a shock to me. The overwhelming power immediately knocks out Sawsbuck, but will it have consequences for Maxim next round? He's now ordering first with a forced cooldown and can't switch out to remove the Leech Seed. We'll have to wait and see how he plays it, as he still has quite an advantage.

Simon is in a bind, down to his last Pokemon. As sweat drops, he sends Slaking back out onto the field. Slaking is still paralyzed from earlier, but this might work to its advantage with Trick Room up... if it can avoid full paralysis. It does spring into action, delivering a very powerful Low Kick before sitting down to loaf off. Sawsbuck's Leech Seed heals it while Snorlax just takes a bite of its Leftovers.

Snorlax is ordered to set up a Reflect to help weather the blows. Meanwhile Slaking opens its mouth... before being overcome by the paralysis and failing to act! Maxim heaves a sigh of relief, and Simon almost curses aloud. The shock of the paralysis seems to have snapped Slaking out of its sluggishness, but it was still a major setback.

Snorlax then spits out a Fire Blast that sinks into Slaking's fur, almost setting it ablaze. This time, Slaking acts, letting loose a mighty Roar that leaves half the audience terrified and the other half amazed. Snorlax falls into the former category, and is forced back into its Pokeball for the exhausted Cinccino to take its place! As Slaking slouches back into its sluggish state, Simon ponders what to do next. The untimely paralysis really screwed with his plans, as the Reflect that could have been broken is still up and Slaking is currently too lazy to break it, and Cinccino can't immediately be taunted into KOing itself either...

If one of the above substitutions are illegal, then I request to reorder.
 
Because Trick Room is up, the Dodge formula is Base Dodge + ((Opponent's Speed - User's Speed) / 5) - (Accuracy boost from a +Spe Nature OR +10 if -Spe Nature), so Cinccino's Dodge rate would only be 22% (or 37% if Slaking was paralyzed a1). That works out better for Maxim anyways though apparently... (why not just make the attacks your orders anyways ?_?)

Still fueled with energy, Simon enthusiastically commands Slaking to Slash at the tired Cinccino. Slaking responds with much less enthusiasm, but begrudgingly attacks Cinccino, who can only chill out and recover energy as a response. Slaking then Taunts the creature, but is met with Cinccino's signature Tail Slap that deals a ton of damage, almost knocking Slaking out! After one last Slash, which crits but fails to KO, Cinccino downs the ape with a Pound that takes the very last of its energy, knocking both Pokemon out. As if on cue, he dimensions of the arena change back to normal, signifying the end of this long match.

Maxim, with one Pokemon left, stands victorious! Ladies and gentlemen, after a fierce battle that took many months and many refs, we finally have a Normal-type gym leader! Congrats Maxim, and a good try to Simon who also worked very hard (and to Yarnus who isn't in this battle but also trained for this so ya)!
