Goodra as a Counter

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Dragon Tail / Focus Blast

With Goodra's massive special bulk and an Assault Vest equipped, it can handle some of the most powerful special attacks such as +2 Adaptability Tri Attack from Porygon-Z. It can switch in on any attack and retaliate with a very powerful draco meteor, which always KO's after stealth rock damage and one round of LO recoil. If necessary, goodra can phase out Porygon-Z if it has accumulated too many boosts. Also, goodra can opt for focus blast for the guaranteed OHKO on PZ but draco meteor usually does the job fine.

Calcs:
252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Goodra: 120-143 (31.3 - 37.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock (Goodra laughs at that attack)

Even after a boost:
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Goodra: 239-283 (62.4 - 73.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

And in return,
252+ SpA Goodra Draco Meteor vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Porygon-Z: 262-310 (79.1 - 93.6%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock (as I stated before, always KOs after rocks + LO recoil.)

Snorlax as a counter

Snorlax @ Assault Vest
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Superpower

AV Snorlax survives +2 LO Tri Attack and can OHKO with Superpower. If they use Agility instead of Nasty Plot, then they have no chance. Shadow Ball is completely negated as well.

+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Snorlax: 315-372 (68.3 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Snorlax Superpower vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 342-404 (103.3 - 122%) -- guaranteed OHKO

You could tweak the EVs if you wish, but this was the same spread as standard AV Snorlax, with Superpower in place of Pursuit.

Escavalier as a Counter

Escavalier @ Assault Vest
Ability: Swarm/Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Spe
Adamant Naure
-Megahorn
-Knock Off
-Drill Run
-Pursuit

First of all, when countering Porygon-Z, you have to remember Adaptability, which gives Tri Attack a big boost. This means that a Pokemon which resists it will take exactly as much damage as it would from the much weaker Shadow Ball. Escavalier is an excellent counter to Double Dance Porygon-Z as it can come in on unboosted Porygon-Z, easily survive Tri Attack or Shadow Ball, and then do major damage (with a chance of OHKOing) with Megahorn. If Porygon-Z survives the Megahorn, Pursuit will finish it off so that it can't switch out and be Wish-passed later. Speed investment is forgone in favour of HP, so that Escavalier is guaranteed to survive 3 unboosted attacks after SR. Both of Escavalier's abilities help against Critical Hits: Swarm boosts Megahorn's power up to an insane level if Porygon-Z gets a crit at +2 or attacks without using Nasty Plot, while Shell Armor blocks crits altogether. Overcoat isn't too useful, as it only protects against Hail and the occasional powder move.

252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier: 82-97 (23.8 - 28.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Life Orb Porygon-Z Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier: 82-97 (23.8 - 28.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock (Yes I know it does the same amount of damage; just wanted to highlight it)
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier: 164-194 (47.6 - 56.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 297-349 (89.7 - 105.4%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO (Almost guaranteed after LO recoil; guaranteed after SR)
252+ Atk Escavalier Pursuit vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 67-79 (20.2 - 23.8%) -- guaranteed 5HKO (may not seem like a lot, but the point is you use it after a Megahorn)

Reserving Spiritomb as Check

Spiritomb @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure

Bold Nature
-Dark Pulse
-Calm Mind
-Rest
-Sleep Talk

Say hi to Crotomb @,@ Although Spiritomb is pretty niche in this metagame, it definitely finds some uses as it shares the same fantastic typing as Sableye, as well as a considerable amount of bulk on both ends of the spectrum.

Against Porygon-Z, Spiritomb performs fairly well as Tri Attack will simply fly through Tomb's body, effectively doing nothing to it. Dark Pulse fails to 2HKO Spiritomb, and if Porygon-Z tries to set up, Spiritomb can do so as well, allowing it to withstand P-Z's boosted attacks better while boosting its own power.

LO Calcs

252+ SpA Life Orb Porygon-Z Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Spiritomb: 120-142 (39.4 - 46.7%)
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Porygon-Z Dark Pulse vs. +1 252 HP / 4 SpD Spiritomb: 160-188 (52.6 - 61.8%)

0 SpA Spiritomb Dark Pulse vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Porygon-Z: 102-121 (30.8 - 36.5%)
+1 0 SpA Spiritomb Dark Pulse vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Porygon-Z: 153-181 (46.2 - 54.6%)

Non-LO Calcs

252+ SpA Porygon-Z Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Spiritomb: 92-109 (30.2 - 35.8%)
+2 252+ SpA Porygon-Z Dark Pulse vs. +1 252 HP / 4 SpD Spiritomb: 123-145 (40.4 - 47.6%)

Meloetta @ Choice Specs
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 184 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Hyper Voice
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

Attacking
  • 252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Psychic vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Porygon-Z: 304-358 (91.8 - 108.1%) -- 50% chance to OHKO -- KO after LO recoil if unlucky
  • 252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Psychic vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Porygon-Z: 304-358 (91.8 - 108.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
  • 252+ SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Focus Blast vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Porygon-Z: 542-638 (163.7 - 192.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO - okay, 70% guaranteed c:
Defending
  • (Crit) +1 252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 68 HP / 0 SpD Meloetta: 309-367 (86.3 - 102.5%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
  • 252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 68 HP / 0 SpD Meloetta: 208-247 (58.1 - 68.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 252+ SpA Life Orb Porygon-Z Dark Pulse vs. 68 HP / 0 SpD Meloetta: 208-247 (58.1 - 68.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

In most scenarios, Porygon-Z will either try to set-up an Agility. This means that Meloetta will usually be hit by a Tri-Attack or a Dark Pulse (both hit for the exact same damage). Given this, there is a small chance that the Freeze/Para/Flinch (~20 if we discount burn, I won't go into probability here). For this reason, Meloetta is a Check. Under ideal circumstances, it can take Porygon-Z down.

Sash Alakazam as a check.

Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psych Up
- Psyshock
- Dazzling Gleam
- Calm Mind/Shadow Ball

Focus Sash Alakazam is known for its ability to stop sweeps cold. However, standard SashZam doesn't quite do the trick here:

252 SpA Alakazam Psyshock vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 180-213 (54.3 - 64.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

and no one wants to rely on Focus Blast. So here I've added a twist: Psych Up. This is highly situational but fun and hilarious when it works. (Unfortunately there's no Volcarona for this thing to take advantage of.) The idea, though, is fairy obvious: Live a hit with Focus Sash, then use Psych Up to copy all boosts that the Porygon-Z has and then proceed to easily sweep the rest of the opposing team. Bonus points your opponent gets greedy thinking "eh I can live a hit from SashZam" while you fodder a Pokemon.

This also works against a lot of specially based set up mons like Infernape, Mega Houndoom, Crocune, etc (in fact every single one except for Lucarios that Flash Cannon on the Psych Up.)

Inb4 Tri Attack Freeze.

Ok...

Registeel @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss
- Earthquake

+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 139-164 (38.1 - 45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Registeel is a pretty good check to Pory because it can readily tank attacks from the latter and cripple it with TWave. While some Porys carry Lum Berry, it's another kind of story, because w/o LO Porygon's damage is kinda low, so the Pory user has to pick his poison. Seismic Toss also 4HKOes Pory, so if the latter uses Registeel as set-up bait, Pory takes damage and loses one-one-one (this scenario applies for both sets). Overall, a very solid check.

Sableye (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Knock Off
- Recover

Sableye is immune to porygon-z's stab, so it isnt hard to come in.
252+ SpA Life Orb Porygon-Z Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Sableye: 121-143 (39.8 - 47%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery after Leftovers recovery It can take shadow ball pretty well and recover off the damage. It can use taunt to make sure that porygon can't boost its sp attack or speed. Knock off lets it get rid of the life orb, lowering his damage output, and willowisp will get good chip damage on it. Sableye doesn't fare so well if porygon gets to plus 2 however, so it has to make sure it doesnt get boosts. Knock off doesnt do that much, but between lo and burn damage sableye can just recover stall porygon-z pretty easily.
0 Atk Sableye Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 111-132 (33.5 - 39.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Ah dang I misread the set and chose a poor mon looks like I can't participate oh well Gl all those who can take the time to read properly :]

As a Check, Specially Defensive Empoleon:

Empoleon@Leftovers
252HP/252SpDef/4SpAtt
Sassy/Calm Nature
Ability: Torrent
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock
- Defog/Flash Cannon/Shadow Ball

Empoleon is a Specially Defensive Monster, and can take most of Porygon-Z's punishment. The only issue is that if on the switch Porygon sets up a Nasty Plot, you're in a bad spot, but you'll still be able to do a number on him in that case. But here's my calcs for now:

Defensive:

252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon: 92-109 (24.7 - 29.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Porygon-Z Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon: 92-109 (24.7 - 29.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
And now why this isn't a counter:
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon: 183-216 (49.1 - 58%) -- 59% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Porygon-Z Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon: 183-216 (49.1 - 58%) -- 59% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Though I'll point out that if you use Knock Off after the first attack, you've got a pretty good chance of living a second hit to hurt him more with a scald:
+2 252+ SpA Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon: 141-166 (37.9 - 44.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ SpA Porygon-Z Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Empoleon: 141-166 (37.9 - 44.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Offensive:

4 SpA Empoleon Scald vs. 80 HP / 0 SpD Porygon-Z: 120-142 (36.2 - 42.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (With a possibility to 2HKO if you get a burn on the first Scald, but we're ignoring hacks, so whatevs.)
0 Atk Empoleon Knock Off vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 56-66 (16.9 - 19.9%) -- guaranteed 6HKO

Essentially, you come in on a Tri-Attack/Agility/Shadow Ball, then proceed to Scald PZ to death. Just a check since with a Nasty Plot up PZ will likely 2HKO Empoleon.

0 Atk Sableye Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 111-132 (33.5 - 39.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
I also thought I'd mention that after the first knock off, Sableye is only doing:
Atk Sableye Knock Off vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 75-88 (22.6 - 26.5%) -- 21.4% chance to 4HKO
Even with the power from the first hit, it'll be a 4HKO.

Cobalion as Counter.

Okay so bulky Cobalion is pretty much the perfect counter to porygon-z, as it can switch in on any move and KO with CC. Don't really need to say much more, here's the set and calcs:

Cobalion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt/Iron Head
- Volt Switch

Calcs:
252+ SpA Life Orb Porygon-Z Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Cobalion: 169-199 (43.7 - 51.5%) -- 8.2% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Cobalion: 169-199 (43.7 - 51.5%) -- 8.2% chance to 2HKO

40 Atk Cobalion Close Combat vs. 80 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 332-392 (100.3 - 118.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

So yeah, a counter because P-Z cannot OHKO with a move and cobalion can come in on anything and proceed to outspeed and OHKO with CC.

Sorry Ununhexium, but I'm stealing Blissey :P
Blissey as a counter.

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss
- Wish
- Protect

This should be fairly self-explanatory, but Blissey is a counter to nearly every special attacker in the tier. Porygon-Z is no exception. Yes, I know, Blissey's fully Specially Defensive set isn't it's best all around, but in this case, it just helps it counter PZ even more. Essentially you come in, eat hits, TWave it as it likely sets up, then start damaging it with seismic toss.

Calcs:

252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 151-179 (21.1 - 25%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Adaptability Porygon-Z Tri Attack vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 299-354 (41.8 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Blissey Seismic Toss vs. 80 HP Porygon-Z: 100-100 (30.2 - 30.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

That's really all you need to know.

Alright top 3 Checks & Counters to Double Dance Porygon-Z have been chosen (in no particular order):

Top 3 Checks:

Empoleon - imaloony
Meloetta - King UU
Registeel - TrulyDevious

Top 3 Counters:

Blissey - ~Volbeatdown~
Cobalion - LiberalLucario
Snorlax - Venduria

OP will be updated accordingly. Next week's Victim is apparently really good, possibly one of the best wallbreakers in the UU meta or something like that? So let's put that theory to the test and see what you all come up with.

Set name: Life Orb Kyurem
name: Life Orb
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Earth Power
move 4: Iron Head / Outrage / Hidden Power Fire
ability: Pressure
item: Life Orb
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Hasty / Naive

Also, important announcement, and I quote from namehtmas: "Attention: we are doing away with the leaderboard. No one was really paying too much attention to it, and a lot of people were being nom'd for their badge before 10 points anyway. While your leaderboard points may be going away, your contributions don't disappear and the tier leaders don't need a leaderboard to know people's merits."

So no more Leaderboard Points unfortunately, but contributions from you guys don't go unnoticed, and you're the reason this challenge is still ongoing 16 Weeks in the making. Keep at it!

Reserving Cresselia as Check

Cresselia @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Spe
Bold Nature
-Psyshock
-Moonblast
-Calm Mind
-Moonlight

Calm Mind Cresselia is here to the rescue! Although its Special Attack is rather weak even after a couple boosts, it still finds itself as a decent win-con due to its massive bulk and its ability to heal off even the stronger attacks.

The reason why Cresselia is a check instead of a counter is because if it does not get the setup, the combination of Ice Beam and Draco Meteor actually has a small chance of KOing Cresselia after rocks, but once Cresselia gets one Calm Mind boost, Kyurem has basically no way of beating it.

Calcs:
252 SpA Life Orb Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Cresselia: 220-261 (49.5 - 58.7%)
252 SpA Life Orb Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Cresselia: 153-181 (34.4 - 40.7%)

Registeel resists both his stabs and has enough bulk to take earth power. Protect is for added leftovers recovery and toxic stalling. After one round of life orb damage, iron head will always 2hko.

Calcs:

Haven't contributed to one of these in a while so I thought I may as well chuck in a Pokemon since this is a pretty obvious one. Resists Draco/Outrage/Ice Beam/Iron Head and is immune to Earth Power and takes minimal damage from HP fire (which isn't even a thing so idek why it's on there but whatever), in return you OHKO Kyurem after Rocks with Gyro Ball and if it's not running Naive then you can just Toxic Stall it into KO range of Gyro Ball. Either way Bronzong hard counters this Kyurem Set.

252 SpA Life Orb Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 90-105 (26.6 - 31%) -- 11.4% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Kyurem Earth Power vs. Levitate Bronzong: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time
252 SpA Life Orb Kyurem Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 112-133 (33.1 - 39.3%) -- 7.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 138-164 (36.8 - 43.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 97-114 (25.9 - 30.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Kyurem Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 65-77 (17.3 - 20.5%) -- possible 5HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Kyurem Outrage vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Porygon2: 153-183 (40.9 - 48.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
4 Atk Life Orb Kyurem Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Porygon2: 69-82 (18.4 - 21.9%) -- possible 5HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Kyurem Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 44-52 (11.7 - 13.9%) -- possible 8HKO

Nothing 2HKOs Porygon2, and the only thing coming close is Outrage, which can be Recover stalled until confusion. Toxic when you have a chance and stall until its dead or switches out.
4 Atk Life Orb Kyurem Outrage vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Eviolite Porygon2: 153-183 (40.9 - 48.9%) -- 76.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Just letting you know that Stealth Rock should always be assumed when switching in to a Victim of the Week as it's a pretty standard situation met in a Pokemon battle.

reserving Cobalion

edit :
Presenting Magnet Rise Cobalion as check :

Cobalion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Att / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Iron Head
- Sword Dance/Stealth Rock
- Magnet Rise

Cobalion can switch-in on any of Kyurem's common STAB moves and even survive a combination of Draco Meteor+Outrage univested. Cobalion only fears the common coverage, Earth Power,as even HP fire doesn't KO and CC always KO Kyruem with rocks and/or LO recoil. The cool trick is, that if switched on a STAB move, Cobalion can Magnet Rise before Kyurem either switches out or Earth Powers. Then, Cobalion lives any hit (outside of the aftomentioned rare Hp Fire) and may use Kyurem as a set-up bait for SD or SR or even CM with a specially offensive set.

Relevant Calcs :
